Hi I was wondering if someone could give me some advice on what race/proff I may suit me based on my style of play. In the last MMO I play (WoW) I played as a rogue, I liked the stealthy style of play and the ability to do high damage but at the same time not being able to take much pain. I also like the ability to craft useful items. Thanks for any advice (Sorry for the noob question )

In EVE there is nothing like a class and your Race is not a factor other then your picture and starting attributes which means nothing after the first week or so.
You can train any skills you want, use any ship, and do anything else you may desire with a signle character.
Though you may want to look at Stealth Bombers, I think they are junk but other people seem to like them as a longer term goal.

Hi Ivelliana,
in Eve, there are no classes like some of the other MMO's out there. You can do anything you want, provided you learn the skill. Any race can learn any skill. Race choices seem to be alot about personal preference, esp in terms of what "default" ships you get.
For me, I chose Minmatar just because I like the idea of being the kicked around underdog, fighting the mean ole amarr's. Our ships are fugly! So if I wanted, I could pick up a book called "gallante frigate", learn the skill, and buy myself one of the sleeker gallante frigs and fly that.
Your choice of race won't tie you down, nor will it limit your possibilities.
As far as being rogue'ish, I don't know enough about EVE and the various ships to describe a matching playstyle.
Hope that helps and glad to see more fresh faces. I don't feel so alone being a noob and all.

Yeah, race is only relaly relevant from a role-play perspective. I chose Caldari soley based on the backstory and nothing more.
I wanted an analog to America (Aggressive/Violent/Militaristic, Advanced technology, Former underdogs, Capitalistic/Greedy, ect..) Caldari fit in nicely. The Caldari are not really allied with anyone (They hate the Gallente because the Gallente used to oppress them and the Minmatar for allying with the Gallente). There are factions within the Caldari that are sympathetic to all the other races, and there is a lot of suggestion in the lore that the Caldari are selling technology to the Amarr.
Minmatarr have their appeal, as they are CURRENT underdogs who are fighting the oppressive Amarrians. The Minmatarr used to be Amarr slaves (a lot of them still are). They also have that whole tribalism thing going and have those cool tatoos.
The Amarrians are an "Old World" empire with lots of tradition (Catholics) and oppressive overtones (Nаzis). They are the closest thing to true villains and that is why a lot of people like to play them. Their backstory is kinda cool in that their leaders live for centuries.
The Gallente used to be a lot like the Amarrians, but are now reformed and more closely represent the fruity European Union of today, heh heh. They are kinda in an unofficial alliance with the Minmatarr, and are helping them out. They have (IMO) the coolest looking ships in the game though. But anyone of any race can buy and fly them just as well as a Gallente character.

There is not a rolleyes big enough to inform you of what a small-minded and bigoted individual you are.

You have no idea how much sleep I will lose now that I know that. Your opinion means a lot to me.
Quote: I took offense to the Americans bit, but it looks like there's more than enough narrow-minded stereotypes in your post to annoy everybody.
Why would my opinion of anything annoy you? Why do you care?
I use real-world comparisons to give a brief summary of the different ideologies of the empires. Catholics ARE into tradition and ritual...like the Amarrians. It's a quick and easy way to familiarize new players with game lore.

Simple: If I can't rant about politics on this forum, nobody can, including you.
Also, your shallow and trite observations offend my intelligence.

In WoW you are what you are.
In Eve you are what you want to be.

I live in Kansas City, on the Kansas/Missouri state line. I'm almost smack dab in the center of the United States (referring to this country as "America" is quite incorrect, remember), and I don't really take offense to this. You left out the value placed on individual rights and freedom, but the actual Gallante backstory does read like an exaggerated U.S. history. But it's just that, an exaggeration. There were bad leaders, greedy people, and countries willing to use their military to solve a perceived threat LONG before man came up with a calendar, let alone traveled across the sea to escape oppression from taxes, gain religious freedom, or to steal land from another people.
I think it's a callous thing to say about someone else's country, but it's nothing to get riled up about, especially here, in this forum.

The closest to the high damage, low survivability + sneaking would be a Stealth Bomber. They can cloak and have battleship sized weapons (cruise launchers) with special bonuses to damage to small targets but they can't take much punishment. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You say that like its a bad thing.
And nothing about my post was political.

Dont worry...I'm sure you can tattle when they get back, heh heh. Heaven forbid anyone says anything on the forum you dont like.
And when did I say the US sucks? I said I picked the Caldari because they are an analog to the US.

You know, the Caldari are actually more like the Japanese than Americans...
Just wanted to toss that out there.

When I studied the various races and the back story, I decided that my preferred race was Gallente, as it seemed to most closely match my "American" ideals. Interestingly, though, when I rolled my character I got confused and went Caldari. No big deal. I'm still Libertarian.

Yeah, a lot of people have told me that. And I definitely see parallels.
But the Japanese dont strike me as violent or aggressive in the way that the Caldari are, which is why they seem more American to me. But after reading some of the Chronicles, I can definitely see where you guys come from on the Japan angle, especially when it comes to Capitalism. The Gallente represent individualistic capitalism (which is probably more American) where the Caldari are more in line with the whole Zaibatsu thing (profit for the company/state).
That and the names/new bloodlines do have an asian flavor.

Well, there was that whole World War II thing, and a few people in Korea and China may disagree with you as well...

But they were not capitalistic at that time...they were one or the other, but not both. America is both.
