i heard that maybe the reason why i can't get this to work is that my laptop has 2 CPU's and eve won't work on multi-processor systems. someone suggested going into bios and disabling one of my CPUs. i have tried loads of other stuff except messing around with CPUs so i just wanna check if anyone else has tried this!
i haven't really got a clue what i am doing anyway! i guess my computer is using both of the CPUs for something so disabling one is gonna cause some issues somewhere else right?
can anyone give me some tips on which CPU to disable, what it is gonna do to my system or some other advise if this is not a good thing to do! I wanna play eve but i am not gonna cripple my computer to do so! help!

Edited by: Shakaar Edon on 26/03/2006 19:35:45 eve works perfectly fine on a multi processor machine... well on mine at least. im running win xp sp2 fully patched. if you cant get the game to boot then you maybe need an app to set the processor affinity before the game even starts up, dont bother fiddling with the bios. try winlauncherXP, i know its beta but works quite well. it shouldnt matter which cpu you tie the game too but youll probably get better performance tying it to cpu2

No problems here. I have 2Xeons and am running fine. Disabling a processor will not harm your system. Most programs will only use one processor anyway, it is mainly speciality graphics programmes that take advantage of the second processor. XP will use both, but only because there present, it will run just as well with one.
But do not think that is your problem, as I don't share it. Check your firewall settings, they may be interfering with access to the Eve server. Try re-installing Eve. Are you getting anything at all, ie, error messages, to indicate what the problem is.

Edited by: Slardibardfast on 27/03/2006 12:08:23 What exactly is the problem, you mentioned you cant get it to work but in what way?
If you cant login, what is the error? If you have not text, is it blurd or missing? What are the system spec's, more natably what graphics card has your laptop got?
Dual core works fine with eve as I have so far built 2 systems with dual core chips & use eve to stress them.
BTW, disabling a core is not an easy thing to do as most systems will not let you just disable one in the bios.

If you can start eve, before logging in, but with the launcher open do ctrl-alt-del > click on the processes tab > find exefile.exe > right click and choose affinity > uncheck cpu1.
