any mods or features exist that allow me to set my eve time to daylight saving? Any reason why we can't do this as standard? I don't mind having ingame features.. such as skills or npc mails having diffrent time stamps on them, keeping track of the time in RL is more important to me. (yes I do have a desk clock.. I have to now) What countries don't use day light saving?

Actually I think you'll find that EVE uses EVE Standard Time, and the synchronisation between EVE time and GMT is pure coincidence ----------------------------

As I stated, I don't mind eve following gmt or Eve standard time, I don't recall suggesting otherwise, what I would like is to beable to adjust that little clock bottom left corner to reflect DST/BST.. or Eve standard time +/- 1 I would have thought a) it would be rediculously simply thing to do b) In a game as indepth as Eve, a responsible thing to do c) If I'm supposed to be responsible enough to keep track of my own time then surely I can keep track of my own adjustemnts to the displayed time.
Anyway I suppose I'd accept the arguement that the clock is there to display eve standard time and not for my own convienience.. but that's a poor argument!

Well, at first I would have agreed with you. Now, however, I see a lot of ops being timed with eve time of "xx:xx" which means that a universal ingame time system is important. --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

Agreed, having a universal time to map is handy.
Also, you will always find the people who get confused who are way off GM by several hours expecting downtime to be in sync with their game clock and then endlessly complain about how downtime is always at the wrong time. ------

I don't see why the clock can't have system time and eve time both there.
Eve time is definately needed to coordinate ops, system time is just convenience.

It could be written as xx:xx (+/-y) if that could help matters? Seeing as differing timezones only differ in terms of hour increments (right?)
For instance, eve game time is one hour behind my timezone now, so Ill put it forward an hour, giving:
12:01(+1)
I'd like it personally, though I can see how its unnecessary seeing how so many people have done without for so long

Hypersnap used to have a overlay that would display system clock in most fullscreen directx games.. dunno if it still does.
If not, then my way round it is to just run in window mode (which I prefer anyway)

Although it only affects me now because of DST, I found the clock in eve too small to read anyway. I have a clock mounted on the wall just over my monitor so all I need to do is look up a bit.
It's habit now but started because I often lost track of time when I was playing/browsing and ended up with my ears taking a beating from the wife's verbal abuse when I woke her up by creeping into bed at 3am

I think I can help out the people who just want a clock.
Maybe I've got a little grudge about DST (living in an area that just switched for the first time ever), but I'm happy that eve has a single, universal, constant time.
Also, the first person to say that daylight savings time gives us "more daylight" gets punched right in the face.

No, it's probably because it's a server and all servers run on UTC (which is GMT). Heck - most desktop machine run on UTC as well including the ones we all use to play this game. They just know how to adjust the time when they display it. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Speaking of the Clock, how about a mouse over feature that tells the date too? I can see a problem already with that idea, that showing something such as 2006.04.11 might confuse people, but dates like that are already used for mail and D.O.B., why not have it on the clock as well? If not mouse over, then perhaps showing the date just below the clock? "Henceforth I spread confident wings to space; That which others saw from afar, I leave far behind me." -G.B. 1584 |

Obviously the universal time is needed to easily coordinate operations and meetings without people freaking out and needing to do some local TZ conversions just to be on time. No offence, but eve doesn't need a local time. Personally I play eve in a window and can see the real time thanks to windows. I have my VCR clock right in front of me. My irc chat time stamps in my second window also show me the local time. So does the watch on my wrist, and the microwave shows the time every time I go to nuke a snack. Get the idea? =)

Uk first used DST because of farmers who wanted to be up at first light. Don't ask me why they didn't just set the alarm a bit earlier. Since most farmers in the UK are also Magistrates, members of political organisations and generally higher social status than us common folk, it got changed for their benefit even though it inconveniences almost everyone else.
We have daylight in UK ranging from 19 hours in summer and 8 hours in winter. Shifting the clock an hour each way makes absolutely no difference to the orbit of the earth and its position in relation to the sun so therefore it makes no difference to how much daylight we actually get.

Wikipedia has more information on this than you could ever want.
Also, complaining that it doesn't tell you your time is a little odd, as I can't think of a single other game I've played that tells you the time at all. ---------- Sorry but that link contains nawty language. -wystler "Discussing moderation is not allowed" - Ivan K "Ranting is prohibited" - Teblin
