Originally by: Nate D I like the idea of using capital ships for a different purpose other than war. I mean in RL some people use Aircraft Carriers as fishing boats! HA! Well anyways... I really do like the idea, but how would you prevent macroers from moving into the goldmine of 0.0 if they had such protection... just have 1 real person running the carrier and let the macros do their jobs.
any ideas?

if your really worried dabout macroers, use a dynamic passwording system(pilot has to enter pass word that comes up when asked for it), that shuts down ship and disconnects pilot if not entered within required time(ship warp to random SS). remove the achorable part (pilot operated only), but give the ship the ability to mine(resticted admittedly); to conpensate for lack of achorability.

of course create ore cans(tagging becon for capital miner), like a jet can, but specifically for ore, and make it only can tractorable from anywhere in system by owning corp, and in minning capital.
that way you can drop any minning capability, from 'mother of all miners' but it can still collect.

Edited by: Raganti Hujo on 11/07/2006 05:24:43 Edited by: Raganti Hujo on 11/07/2006 05:19:03 I noticed in the plans for all 3 ships on the first page the speed was 150m/s. That should be only if you have a really good afterburner, some of the industrials can't even reach 150m/s. Also the ship should have something basic for defences but thats it. Overall, I think its an A plus plan. Also, maybe I'm confused but how can a ship hold that many ships? Such as the Battleships and mining barges.

That won't work. They're farmers, they have a Human sitting and atching and he'd enter the code. And that'd really annoy legitimate miners too.

Deepspace Mining Station.
A mining station should offer some of the comforts of a real station. It should have hellacious defensive capability. And by defensive, I mean computer-controlled. Eliminate the offensive potential by preventing a player from attacking with it. The station should defend itself against all attackers, and should offer succor for miners in the area. Give it the ability to dock ships and repair and refine.
Make the thing so big you can't hide it, and so slow it can't run. Give it massive armaments so it doesn't have to. If a powerful enough fleet of attackers come after the mining operation, they can take it down, but not without serious casualties.
Make the station take a tax out of the refining process to keep its engines running and the weapons online. If the thing is in battle, make it leech off of the reserves, requiring supply.
I think destroyable stations in low security areas would be excellent, drawing players and NPCs like flies. I don't think it would put the escort people out of business. In fact, I think it would be so expensive that if an attack started, these stations would become the center of attention for attackers and defenders.

I'd love to see a ship like that. (OP-thingy that is) .. makes me wanna go on homeworld-cataclysm mining-ops :p Let's hope the nerf-bat swingers and exploit-detectors find no flaws in it and put it up in some patch in the VERY near future. Way too much ships for the warmongers already, let the roid-murderers have some stuff too.
Weird-looking Anros approved ^^

I want a big hauler/refiner or miner. I meen cmon new toys are a blast. and without us miners how many tier 3 bs's will get built. -Here's an idea to play with; everyone who mines stop... when kali comes out everyone will be totally out of ore and there will be no new ships crazy mofo pvp'ers who rip on miners as "not real players" can kiss my as$... *please let a covert ops ship use a covert ops cloaking device...It just makes sense* *Bombers need baby love too* -Forum Fighter at work; player at night |

Like the idea, but it would not be able to anchor in a belt as it could then be used as the altermate tank, you would either need to anchor at a planet or moon or a safe spot in the system somewhere.

i hope this idea gets implemented asap. i have had similar ideas its in another thread.. can't find it. anyway the days are gone that a traditional mining op of 5 guys in decent ships can mine enough for a battleship. there are capital ships. carriers, motherships, and titans which have insane mineral requirements. i heard the titan that bob built took 25 miners a month to mine for in barges. when you have that much low-end requirements it takes way too much time and is really calling the need for a more automated system similar to a pos or anchored mothership.
