Hey All,
I was lucky enough to order my copy of E-On Magazine Issue #2. (kicking myself for not getting issue #1 now). I will definately do a years subscription this week after reading E-ON issue #2 a few months back.
So to better get a pulse on how the magazine is working out for the community, after the first two issues, we ask anyone that has a copy or read either/both issues to post a "RATING"
On a scale of 0.0 to 10.0
Please feel free to give CONSTRUCTIVE feedback on a positive side to help improve an already great mag....
MY RATING: 8.9
Likes:
Great stats, like the battleships in service and such. Also well written stories and articles. Awesome print and style and overall look. Great read and does attract alot more attention then most gaming mags I have. Great overall art and layout also.
Dislikes:
Alot of info I could have gotten myself outside the magazine. Though I expect a big turn of events in issue #3 coming up very soon, concerning this minor oversight.

MY RATING: 10
Likes:
A lot of insight into Eve, and how CCP plans to develop it. A hell of a lot of information regarding stuff you can do ingame, some kick ass new chronicles and player submissions as well as some interesting stats on systems, corps and ship useage.
Dislikes:
Lack of an Eris Discordia centrefold. Which, may I add is still owed to me, after i fulfilled my half of the deal and went mining veldspar in a Velator as payment

I had the pleasure of browsing the #2 issue at a friends house. The magazine was awesome and I plan to get a yearly subscription in the next week or so.

Great production value, quality printing and pictures. Wonderful stories, fun and interesting character portrayals that bring EVE even closer to feeling "real" than ever. Nice inside information, dev-related articles. Very happy about the improvements made from #1, and the promise of continued evolution of the magazine. The artwork.
Dislikes:
Some minor editing issues. A bit of useless content (some of it easily available and then the top ten lists). Would have liked it to be even longer (and wouldn't mind paying even more for it).
I find it very hard to give it a numerical score from 1-10, but if pressed it'd definitely be in the 9-10 range. ------------------------------------------- "Never underestimate the power of language."

3/10, maybe 3.5.
Issue 1 is the only one I have bought and the last one.
Yes, lots of pretty pictures and good quality print but also a lot of pointless fluff. Just didn't feel like it had much "meaning".
Plus forum celebrities acting like experts, doing reviews set the tone of the mag quiet low.... imo.
In summary it was a very shallow magazine to me. Could have been so much more.

It IS much more. But you wouldn't know that because you stopped reading after being disappointed at the first magazine. Issue 1 was a bit of a letdown for most but 2 was great and 3 should be even better. Can you honestly say you produce your best work the first time you do something with no practice? It can only get better and from what I see, it is.

Which, interestingly, is produced by the exact same company. Zap himself assists with its publication, IIRC.
Expect to see single-issue E-ON prices go down soon. -------------- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?

Who else could be an expert?
The devs? I'm sure they know the innards of the game very well, but they couldn't possibly play as much as some of those people do.
The players have a lot more say in EVE than in most games - one world and all that. Player 'celebrities', and the possibility of becoming one, is a reality in this virtual world.
Of course, there's probably tons of really hardcore players out there that never write a single word on the forums, but they are never going to get their voices heard as much, and will never be as known to as many people.
The magazine is recognizing that, just like in the game itself, reputation sells.
And 'fluff' is just another word for 'story', I've noticed. ------------------------------------------- "Never underestimate the power of language."

That magazine could be alot smaller too, the size and quality of EON is worth the price...
I hate 1-10 scales with a passion (/me has taken one too many crappy surveys)... So i'll just say I like it.

I've read both issues. Very glossy, and well designed...but I couldn't help but react with a 'meh' to the content. Makes for a good coffee table read, mind you. 5/10 -------------------------------------------------- Loyalty, Integrity, Honour. |

I also hate the 1-10 thing. I love the mag and will continue getting it. I am curious as to who the OP's "we" is, as I don't think the OP has anything whatsoever to do with EON's publication. -just curious. ----- ------------ New sig coming soon "Ubuntu 5.10 cedega 5.1.1 and EVE= happy camper" |

I like it, although most of the player made "how to" guides are common knowledge and seem geared more towards new/casual players.

Very well produced, very well presented. Content is exceedingly good.
The only issue I have is price but given the relatively limited audience and high production standards I can understand it. I'm glad I went for the full subscription because it dropped the price a bit but more importantly it guarrantees I will never miss out on the magazine.

Top ten lists are useful for ship builders. I'd like to see top ten favourite modules
But anyway lots of people keep crying out for statistics (yo! Oveur - have your data mining lasers broken?) and the magazine is a great place to put them.

Digi is not exactly 'just' a forum warrior. He's is quite an expert on the game itself, trust me...
And stuff is only pointless if you yourself can't do anything with it, and i don't see a really good reason why the mag deserves such a low score.
It just seems to me that the only reason you;re giving it such a score is because you think Digi is nothing more than a forum warrior?
