Right now im flyin around in my Thorax. I am looking for a good cruiser class ship to fly around out in deep space and do some pirate hunting (most likely NPC). I hear the Blackbird is a good ship...? Is it? What is the best? Any adivse would be great! Thanks

1)PvP is not NPC hunting.
2)There is no best cruiser when it comes to combat only when it comes to mining. There are ships that work better with certain loadouts.
3)If you do indeed plan on going after player pirates and you are solo the Blackbird is a good choide for solo hunting.... not the best though.
4)There are a million "What is the best ship" threads try reading them because most people here are kinda tired of repeating the same **** every now and then.

First you say PvP cruiser and then you want to kill npc...
Every ship got its strength. I used to use moa for npc hunting as it has a range bonus and I used ranged weapons to kill npc (250 prototypes). If you want, try 5 ion blasters on a thorax and shield hardeners for close combat. You will do massive damage but its a bit more risk as you will get webbed and warp scrambled.

most ppl say the scorpion is the best pvper.. not a cruiser.. still a cheap bs.. round 55 mil i think... and yes.. pvp stands for player vs player --- "this song reminds me of the girl i met on a schooltrip, she was really nice, and she really liked me. I forgot to ask her her phone number" - Nelix trist OMG im a pretzel!!! |

Maller with an energy buildout will be your most efficient NPC hunter.
BB is probably one of the best 1 vs 1 PvP cruisers.

For NPC "Farming", lasers are the best (you don't have to worry about ammo).
If you are going to use lasers than fly an amarr ship, they are built for lasers, especially after the next patch.
for Player vs. Player, caldari ships are currently the best (but you have to know how to equip them right). It will be interesting to see how minmatar ships do in pvp after the patch, they have alot of potential to become the best (projectile use = stamina; decent firepower and EW capability).

EW capability? You gotta be kidding. There is no Minmatar cruiser that has more than 3 medium slots, and even their battleships have average medium slots (5 and 4). The only advantage that Minmatar ships get is a faster lock-on time than other ships, but this is easily negated by putting a sensor booster into one of the MANY extra slots a Caldari Blackbird gets.
Yes, they get a lot of stamina from those projectile weapons, but their EW capability is laughable, to say the least. Only the Amarr are worse off when it comes to EW (the Auguror has 2 medium slots!).

Projecitles on minmatar ships get a nice bonus ... but projectiles on most other ships give a lot more staying power ... such as, a blackbird with projectiles... has possibilities. Sure, you throw away a bonus, but gain a different one. Some people I know of put their word into the Thorax as in fact being one of the best cruisers. if you can work it out to mount 5 250mm rails, or 3-4 with some blasters for close, or 3-4 rails with 150 rails (s) for close in and still decent range. That coupled with a large drone bay if you canuse drones makes it a fearsome fighter in pvp and npc combat. The only issue with the thorax is low number of medium slots, like all gallentee ships. Blackbird is good for pvp using the EW route ... but I know a lot of people using various other ships as well. I personally use the Celestis cause it's rather cheap, has missile use which I like, 3 other turrets for decent firepower, and I don't need to train any other races ships... which is tough for me considering my specialization (tho am training up caldary ships for the use of a cracel). Only issue is ammo, but that shouldnt'be a problem after next patch. Everyone has their own favorite ship. Pick a ship, or pick a style, then a ship and maximize that ship for the way you play.
You can do anything you set your mind to. |

I said decent EW capability, and I meant decent capability for the firepower they have.
Let's take a look at lvl 2 battleships, which is what really matters since it's currently the highest lvl combat ship you can get.
Medium slots: 1.) Raven (6) - GOOD 2.) Tempest (5) - DECENT 3.) Megathron and Apocalypse (4)
I really don't understand what is so laughable about Tempest's EW capability, it is better than both Megathron and Apocalypse.
I agree minmatars don't have Black Birds and Scorpions. But those ships are purely EW oriented, because their firepower is weak compared to other ships of the same lvl.

What sort of loadouts are people using on PvP Blackbirds? I've been looking at sensor dampners as being rather more general purpose then jammers, but with the stacking nerf they won't be as good. Is it worth using projectiles or sticking with missiles ,especially as missiles get a lot better in the next patch? Anyone tried getting up close and personal with tracking disruptors? |
