The EVE Forum Moderator Team is now accepting applications for Moderators. The EVE Forum Moderator Team is known as Communications Relay Commission and is a part of the EVE Volunteer Program known as Interstellar Services Department. We monitor the EVE Message Boards to make sure the Forum Rules are followed, while interacting with the community. Having English as your first language is not a requirement!
Requirements:
- Good communication skills including good written skills.
- Active participation in the discussions on the EVE Message Boards.
- A minimum of 3 months playing EVE.
- No forum bans issued, a low amount of warnings may be accepted.
- Experience using IRC is prefered but not a requirement. We ask you
to include your experience with IRC somewhere in the application.
- 18 years of age is a minimum, older is a merit.
Living in an US timezone (North or South America, or speaking one of the languages below is considered a plus, though itÆs not a requirement:
- German
- French
- Russian
- Spanish
- Portuguese
You do not have to have to be an expert in English, but you will have to know enough to communicate with it. You do not have to have any of these languages as your first language, but you have to be able to read and understand it enough to moderate, using a dictionary as help is acceptable.
A well written application is a big plus! We look at other things as well, but good application has a better chance.
You can apply by clicking the ôInterstellar Svcs Deptö button under ôEVE INSIDERö in the menu to your left. If you have already submitted an application please update it. We also request that you only check the ôEVE Forum Mod (CRC)ö choice under question 5 (What area are you interested in guiding for?). This will make it easier for us to see who is interested.
You can read more about the EVE Volunteer Program (ISD) and EVE Forum Moderator Team (CRC) in the FAQ and the Player Guide.
Our systems rely on you having the correct email in your account details. If you have an old email there that you don't use we will not be able to contact you. Make sure your email is updated under account management!!

There's one more requirement, you gotta be crazy enough. That's the only thing that explains Wrangler.

I think it's really cool that a well written out application is something you take highly to but I thought it's imporant to warn that there is a character limit on the application answers.
I'm not trying to overstep you with corrections, the irk is, I know someone who did just that, and wrote out a very nice application that extended seven pages long before being pasted from the text program into the website.
It was very uncool when it got bounced back because it was too many characters. The site even logged him out before he could finish pasting and paragraphing it into the interface. There is no way to know how long that character limit is AFAIK and shaving your words down piece by piece until they fit isn't very fun after putting that much effort into it.
Hopefully this saves some over achievers out there. I also hope that the application steps can go through a reinvention sometime soon. Their very bland about the requirements and it's really awesome for you to take the time to write them out neatly and explain like you did.
Actually, I had no idea there was a character limit. I'll see if I can get someone to tell me just where the limit is.

Yes, I didn't specify IRC program, just said you should be familiar with IRC.

That question my friend has been debated for ages by some of the very best psycologists of our time. Who is Wrangler? Why does he have his own brand of jockstraps? Is he wearing one now for fun?
*shrugs* Probably on that last one.

How about writing short application normally, and then providing a link to extended version to show off?
The application is important, but how each person decides to do thiers is upto them. To the point apps that contain relevant information and answers to the questions normally work.

Originally by: Sir Juri do ppl in ISD get to play the game alot? can they be in a war and trash talk on the forums about who is winning? and wrangler where from Sweden are you from? just curious
Well, the volunteer identity is separate from the player identity. But volunteers can't go break rules with their player characters.
The whole corp/alliance trash talking things are a bit boring tbh. It's more or less "We're great, you are bad" "No, we're best, you're bad" and then they all start flaming and trolling. It's just boring.
I'm from southern Sweden, somewhere in Sksne.

Actually you cant use your vol character for normal playing, they are used to volunteer with, if that's what you meant. Only aurora use special characters in events and play with them like players do when an event calls for it.

I'm a bit further up north, but then I commute (sksnekortet ftw) so I'm in Malm÷ sometimes. Might move down there at some point after the summer, depending on school etc.

Originally by: Sir Juri cool so how much time do you spend, *have* to spend moderating for instance?
and Wrangler Malm÷ is great all tho living here I cant fully reccomend tbh but theres many sweet places very close to Malm÷ if one got the cash and is lucky finding a seller. Like Lund, Lomma etc. Well think thats enough about living in Sksne
Well, CRC is divided in 5 squads, each squad should be around 6-7 moderators, though we're a bit low right now. Basically, we ask the moderators to check the first page of one fifth of the forums every other day.
Well, if I get into mah, I'll probably move to Malm÷ eventually, though commuting there takes about 55 minutes, so I'm not in any hurry. Considering I'll be a student I think I'll take what I can get for as little cash as possible in a part of the city that's not too bad.

Originally by: Sir Juri cool so you can moderate without to much stress. And about finding a place like that in Malm÷ goodluck . But if your looking for a rental I suggest gettin in line ASAP.
I'm already in line with MKB, nothing else though. Still, I can commute easily, so I'm not in any rush.

Originally by: My grandfather I think the application form should allow a fourth language, even when it's not overly fluent. No big deal really, just a suggestion.
If you speak more than three languages you can put the fourth, fifth etc in some of the other boxes. Doesn't matter much as long as it's there.

So far we've had a great response to the recruitment drive and have received numerous interesting applications.
Just a bit of info that every potential candidate should know:
Anyone wishing to apply to CRC should use their main EVE account (if you have more than one account, aply with the one that you use most) when filling out the application. Applications from people using trial accounts/recently created accounts (< 3 months) will not be reviewed.

Yes - if you reapply and just choose "CRC" in the application options, then it will refresh your application and we can review it again.

Heh, well, I have to admit that even without the whole law thing (you have to be 18 to sign a contract or something like that), I would have had the age limit at 18 anyway for CRC. In fact, I prefer 20 and up. Though we do have moderators who are younger than 20.

Active forum moderator recruitment has officially closed for now.
Thank you to all of those who took the time to apply.
In the meantime, you can still apply to ISD through the link on the EVE-Online website. We will be reviewing applications often, so those of you who weren't interviewed or accepted for a forum moderator position this time, please do not feel disheartened. A negative response from CRC does not necessarily mean you cannot apply to other ISD divisions.
