How can I find (and salvage) a ship in 'safe space' that someone has abandoned in a system? Often I use my scanner and see abandoned vessels in systems.
If it is one I can pilot, I want to approach it and board.
If you have seen this addressed in past threads, please post a link.
Thanks

yeah, if the ship is really abandoned, they are quite easy to scan down using a scan probe launcher and probes (and of course your normal scanner)
but be wary - check the ship remains in position over night before you attempt scanning (to check it really isn't piloted), don't scan for ships that may be at a POS and most importantly:
i spent a couple of months flying a raven called "Abandoned Ship" around the middle of the forge running level four missions pre-coldwar. you have no idea how many people probed for me. check they really ARE abandoned before you start
sigs of the 23/24/25 hijack just as well -eris yarrrr, i shall retake my sig -HippoKing Not a chance, our 1337 sig haXx0r sk1llz are too powerful! - Wrangler Ho-Ho-Hooooooo, Merry Saturday!11 - Immy Yo ho ho and a bottle of BReeEEEEeee.... - Jacques ARRRRRRchambault Stop spamming with "QFT" >:|. - Teblin

If someone ejects from a ship and you board it, then take it, does the pilot of the ship get kill rights on you?
I often see shuttles outside stations and can't help but wonder if they're bait.

Edited by: El Verbatim on 29/03/2006 11:33:18 Don't know about the kill rights but they are not always bait. Think about this question if you want:
suppose you actually found an empty ship in the middle of nowhere and you want to board it.
Do you leave your current ship there? or do you dock, get out in a shuttle, eject and warp to the ship then board it?
I wouldn't go with the shuttle all the way there and leave the shuttle behind because the shuttle has your name tag on it.

And...add "force field" to your scanner....otherwise you may probe that ship, warp to it and find yourself in front of a POSs force field what normaly ends up in an instantly blown up ship.

Edited by: xenorx on 29/03/2006 17:42:58 It is amazing how many ppl still leave ships in safe spots. Not as many as before scan probes and pos's but still quite a few.
As stated above: 1: Add Force Fields to your overview. There is nothing like scanning out a ship and warping to it just to find yourself blown up by the pos it was parked at.
Edit:
PS. Taking a parked ship will not give anyone kill rights on you so feel free to take those frigates and shuttles sitting around in Empire. Just dont shoot them before you board them or you will still get spanked by concord.
2. use scan probes to find it.
3. Make another safe spot of your own to drop your existing ship off temporarily so they have no evidence of who took their ship. Unless you are flying a shuttle named ("Thank you for the ship, sucker") No one can hear you scream in space, so STFU and die already. |

Does the scan probe launcher require a Launcher Hard Point & a High Slot, or just a High Slot?

Just a high slot. The scan probe launcher is not considered a turret or launcher. I used to fit one on a bestower to scan moons. No one can hear you scream in space, so STFU and die already. |

Altho im still in Empire space, one of my favorite pasttimes is finding abandoned shuttles and self destructing them (makes pretty colors with loud bang...maybe boom) ahh good times, also i do the same to the rookie frigates. and you get like 2k ISK insurance. =)

True. Thats why you will mostly see them on a Covert Ops. The hauler works well for the job too. Plenty of CPU for the probe launcher and a prototype cloak. It cant warp cloaked but is very very cheap,& has loads of cargo for probes. Since you will not be trying to sneak up on a empty ship you dont need to warp cloaked anyway. No one can hear you scream in space, so STFU and die already. |

An Osprey can fit the launcher too. I used one to find an abandoned ship. Then I had to skill for a couple of days to fly the ship

you might as well insure it before you blow it, gives you a bit more 'return on investment'

Can you scoop an ejected-from ship into the cargo bay of an indy? That'd be sweet for snapping up ships of cruiser size or smaller :)

I understand that it's done but i cant figure out why.
Why, why why! would you eject from a ship (esp one worth searching for and boarding) in space and just leave the thing there?

Sheesh, gotta teach them everything, now... Ever heard of frigates?

Because you need to go to the bathroom real bad, and you don't want to polute the entire ship? Or because you've suddenly remembered you had an appointment with the medical cloning facility some 30 or more jumps away? ----------
Please fix the scan probes!!! |
