My original plan was to save up for a Merlin (this is my 2nd day), buy only basic skills and eeek by with my recruit frigate. The price for a Merlin is around 250k plus or minus, as I was looking at ships today at work I could not help but notice the Condor which is like 30k and very fast. The reason fast caught my eye was the fact so far in the story line I am doing courier missions. I guess my question is can I get buy on a 30k condor doing the storyline missions, invest in the best equipment I can and still have money left to purchase skills, or.... Stay with my recruit ship fly around slow and barely armed, not purchase any new skills other then the couple I have purchased but the Merlin then not have much cash to deck it out for a few days while I reacumulate cash. BTW I have 107k currently.

get the Condor.. 30k is less than most modules out there, minimal investment for a huge upgrade from the rookie ship.

Here is my mindset:
It is better to fly a "lesser" ship expertly then a "better" ship poorly. I honestly don't know the difference btwn the two ships, but it would be better to fly the "cheaper ship" well, then risk loosing the more expensive one because you can't use the proper modules yet. Never fly anything you can't afford to loose.
Not sure how much that helps.. Shinar |

I loved my little Condor until it got blown out of the sky by three missile launching rats (was kinda in over my head there on that mission)
It can handle level 1 missions more than adequately. The only bad thing about it is when you upgrade to another ship you'll be thinking to yourself, "damn this thing is slow!"

And with skill and gall, you can go hunting NPC cruisers in low security space (spawns with 80k bounty Sansha's Nation cruisers, for instance). Of course, you turn tail and run when you encounter cruisers with better range, and cry when the Kestrel can do it twice as fast and with half as much ammo, but you also laugh when a frigate can kill something with a bounty that's greater than the cost of the frigate and all its modules.
So yeah. Start with the Condor. It's cheap and it's fun as heck.

Thank you, I thought as much once I saw the Condor but just wanted to make sure.
What a helpful community here, very very refreshing.

This probably isn't what anybody wants to hear, but I handled lvl 1 rats very easily in my Ibis (starter ship), using 2 75mm rail guns. I collected more in loot per trip than a Condor costs. You can save money pretty fast that way. I haven't tried lvl 2 with it.
This sig for rent. Evemail me. |

Once you get goin, Frigates become cheap really really fast.
In my Bantam I was able to get around 9k per trip from the very beginning mining scordite. I cant imagine pirate hunting in a condor would be any less profitable.
Buy the better frigates as you can afford them. Dont worry about saving cash this early in the game. Money will come easier very quickly. Buy the condor now.

Condor, then Merlin.
I remember raising funds for my first Merlin in an Ibis, but looking back I imagine I would probably have had a better time of it using a Condor as a stepping stone.

Later on in the game, very little beats a condor with a MWD in it. over 3500M/s... An executioner does it too. Those small FAST ships are great for mission running.
Though if you're still in that starter mission series, I doubt you could use a MWD yet.
you could always use a shuttle for those delivery missions 500m/s... not too shaby for 9K. - -

The problem with those shuttles is the capacity of 10m3

After losing Serenity VI, I bought one of these little babies. This has to be my favorite frigate that I have flown. It has good missile capacity ( 2 launchers is really nice) and is so freakin fast! Perfect for doing courier missions, Had mine going at 900m/s w/ an afterburner alone.
After losing my cruiser, I took this one for a spin, Managed to go ratting in .4 space and reek havoc all over the place. It took 2 cruisers to take me down, and not before I took out the first one. (tatically should have retreated and repaired, but hey, on a ship that cost me 60k in ship and supplies, not a big deal).
Fun ship. Highly Reccomended. Won't hurt your newbie buget when it gets blown to bits. _______________

Wraiith -- are you sure the Merlins are that expensive? My Cal has been doing the tutorial and lvl 1 missions probably in the same proximity as you and have seen the prices for those frigates as low as 150k. I know that because I was tempted to buy one of those instead of the Rifter that was purchased two days ago. When you go on courier missions, check the local markets. THe price of the Rifter I settled on was 20k less when I went on one of the longer courier missions. I've noticed that IDK is pretty easy to come by even in the first few days.

What is a MWD? BTW yes I am loving this ship only problem I am having is power, I have 27.5 using 27 and that is with 1 missle launcher offline and nothing in my I slot. I am using a 1 MN AB, small shield, 1 125 mm Rail gun, and 1 Missile Launcher (the other being offline). Eng is level II and I have Power Grid I. Finished the storyline missions last night but now at a loss on where to find an agent all the ones I have will not talk to me and the one mission I recieved from the female agent in The War Academy is very vague about finding a recruiter near a stargate in The Forge system.

Power diagnotics systems (most people call them PDUs I think because at one point they were called Power Diagnostic Units) will increased your max powergrid. as will Reactor control units (RCU) as will micro auxiliary power cores (MAPC) but all require some skills and some CPU to fit. aditional skills in engineering will give you more too. (and electrnics gives you more CPU)
as for the next agent. well you can choose from many. pick a corp - most likely a caldari one for you. perhaps caldari navy?. click on show info for that corp. look at the agents tab. different corps and divisions give a different mix of missions.
I'd take a look in the missions forum for more specific answers :)
I will save you, but make sure you bring beer - Wrangler and cAKe - Imaran I thought it was bREe, omgi'mgivingawaymodroomsecwetsftl - Cortes when come back ... bring PIE. Me like PIE. -Capsicum |
