Can you please post what you are running for a video card and you average FPS as well as what you have turned on.
I am looking for a new video card, I am sure alot of us are and would like some general info as to what runs eve best.
I currently run an fx5700 as max quality settings I get between 15 and 20 fps.

EVE is far more CPU than graphics card dependant. I would guess that a graphics card upgrade will have little to no effect for you.

65FPS outside, 140 inside, on 1024x768, 24bit color, Z buffer, 32 bit Z buffer w/ 8 bit stencil.
What's the BEST settings outside of manipulating screen resolution, I want everything to look pretty but I also want to be able to read it (thats why im at 1024x768)
To make Eve look her best, go into your driver details and set AA and AF as high as your system can handle (AF can be a frame rate killer)
Also set performance to max quality

Ive been doing some testing as i overclocked with new mobo and videcard.
changing the freqs on my x1900xtx has 0 impact... variance is within noise factor
changing cpu freq on my fx-53 has nearly linear effect on fps...
conclusion: 6600 is all youll ever need for eve. new cpu time for u. ----------------

Then you've never used a GeForce FX card. They suck. They're basically a DirectX 9-compatible version of the GeForce 4 MX cards, which in turn were closer to GeForce 2s than to the Ti series.
When my Radeon 9800 died, I installed the FX5200 from my backup computer, and the framerate was so bad I didn't dare leave the station. When I went out and got a GeForce 6600, it improved dramatically, equalling or exceeding the 9800's performance.
So yes, a good graphics card will make a significant difference in performance.

Not really. They're bad at pixel shaders, sure, but they're equal in raw power to the 9x00 series. They suck at modern games, but EVE's engine does not use lots of pixel shader 2.0, and thus they do just fine at it.

Well that's because the FX5200 is a very low-end card, and most likely you had the 64-bit version. But I've played EVE and PvPed on a Radeon 7000, which is about 20 times slower than your FX5200.

In my experience, graphics cards make absolutely zero difference period unless your card is slower than a GeForce 2 MX.

I'm running a AMD64 3500+ 2Gb whatever latency RAM 2 x Nivida 6600 SLI GT TDH Extreme Running on a Dell 24" LCD @ 1920*1200 with max everything Oh, and I run 3 accounts simultaneously.
Basically I get around 120 FPS in Station, avg 65fps outside station running all 3 accounts. Never slows down when around large POS's and fleet battles, aside from server lag. I also don't turn off Antivirus or any of the other garbage I have running in the background.
And I agree with those that say GFX cards don't make a huge difference - max out your CPU and memory and you will be much better off. Beyond a single Nvidia 6600, I've found very little difference running EVE. However, for other games a recent GFX card (once you get more than 1Gb RAM and a decent processor) makes a huge difference, so I would suggest getting a GFX card that is fairly recent so that you can buy another similar one and run SLI mode (or Crossfire if your that way inclined) in the future.
Oh, and from personal experience I prefer the Nvidia cards - I've just had too many minor issues with ATI cards to go back to them. It really does come down to personal preference / experience tho.

Nvidia 6800, 128mb, agp 8x amd 3200+ 1gb of ram
== 75-80FPS in space with no activity == 50FPS moving around with a gang == 130FPS in station
The memory bandwidth of your video card seems to be the limiting factor. How much ram it has doesn't seem to matter. Slower card == performance hit.

Snort. ATI with Omega drivers is waay better than the Nvidia cards. And Nividia drivers recently have ALL been broken for oen game or another...just annoying.

It certainly appears that while graphics cards do improve it, its only by about 15 to 20 fps more. CPU seems to still be the deciding factor here.
Coniglietta, a 5700 is fine for it, I'd drop your settings (AA is the spawn of satan) and see what kinda improvement you get. Even on low settings EVE looks absolutely lush. ----- If you kill all the wolves, your gonna end up with a crapload of bunnies, and by bunnies I mean stupid people |
