Edited by: Honneamise on 02/04/2006 15:10:38 When you are in game , if you do :
CTRL+ SHIFT + ALT + M
it appear a little window, with an entry "benchmark" .
there is a way to run a "standard" benchmark for the graphic of the eve client ?
just to be sure that i will always run the same test and correctly compare different machines ?

Edited by: Andrue on 02/04/2006 17:44:51 Edited by: Andrue on 02/04/2006 17:40:12 I don't think there's any one single factor at work here but CPU is probably the biggie. Graphics card is a factor but I think it's the entire graphics subsystem including bus bandwidth.
I have two machines: Acer 1710 laptop:P4 3.4; 1GB RAM; Go5700 - Can barely play Eve. Just about able to cope with mining or hauling. Starts off at 25fps in space but after half an hour settles down to 15fps, 10fps mining in a belt. Edit:This machine played Eve fine until RMR :-/
Mesh AMD 3400+; 1GB RAM; LE6800 PCI - Rarely drops below 50fps even during a full-on rogue drone attack.
The only sure fire cure for performance issues with Eve seems to be a complete system upgrade.
If you have a graphics card that is more than a couple of years old I'd upgrade that first. This is because if the card turns out not to be the answer you can still use it. I would avoid throwing all your money on the gfx card because you'll do better using that money on a CPU upgrade. Go for a second-tier card (typically around ú150). -- (Battle hardened miner)

Originally by: M3ta7h3ad It certainly appears that while graphics cards do improve it, its only by about 15 to 20 fps more. CPU seems to still be the deciding factor here.
I just tested that here.
I overclocked my graphics card from the standard 275/270 to a massive 380/305 and the FPS didn't move an inch. I then overclocked my CPU from 2.4Ghz to 3Ghz and it moved the expected 20-25% higher

It would seem, then, that video cards do make a difference, but not beyond a certain point.
If your card is "more than enough", clocking it to 50% more than "more than enough" doesn't help. But if you have a good processor, it's quite possible for a poor video card to be the bottleneck, and an upgrade of the card will then improve frame rate.
I'm not here to win any popularity contests. I couldn't care less what you think of me - all that matters is this: Can you defend your opinions? |

I am looking for a new video card, I am sure alot of us are and would like some general info as to what runs eve best.
I currently run an fx5700 as max quality settings I get between 15 and 20 fps. Prehaps I should have mentioned ****.
Changed your thread title to something a little more appropriate - Jacques
Just the vid card doesnt matter, its the entire system. What's the use of only asking for vid cards and framerates? This way, youre going to see a radeon 9800 do more fps in eve than a radeon 1900 xt, just because you dont care that the 9800 runs on a dual core 4800+ and the 1900xt on a celeron 2 ghz :P
A fx 5700 is mroe than good enough for eve. Upgrad your ram and cpu first. My radeon 9600, athlon xp 2800+ and 768 mb ddr 333 it does 80+ in stations and between 15 and 40 in space, depending on whats on screen.

Edited by: Tousaka Langley on 02/04/2006 20:29:58 Edited by: Tousaka Langley on 02/04/2006 20:28:19 With 8xS and 16x turned on, in space, with a 7800GT and a 3200+ Winchester AMD64, I get between 70-100 FPS in space. 16800x1050 resolution.
Of course, without the AA and AF turned up so high, the video card wouldn't make much of a difference over the 6600's I was running earlier.

I am currently running at lowest graphic options at 1280x1024, and 1024x768, I am spanning accross 2 monitors so I can run both clients at the same time, one on each screen. and get about 25 - 40 fps on my main client sometimes 10-15 fps on the second client. I have allready overclocked the cpu as far as it will go, and am looking to just make this system hang in for another year before buying a new one. When I heard of the engine upgrade I thought it would be time to jump into a new card esp with the 5700 barely supporting shaders of any type. Also there are some new games coming with shader 3.0 that I would really like to play and it is not going to happen with a 5700. I did the research and discovered that the x1600 outperforms the fx6600 and 6800 cards when using shaders etc, + the availability of a 512 MB Sapphire card at one of my local store for 159 CND.. Really It is time.
Thank you for your cooperation, This thread will probably be of use to others as well. =)
Thanks guys.

I have 2 6800GT's in SLI mode, and i get around 40-65 fps depending no intense moments or other programs running in the background. i generally always listen to online music and frequently alt-tab out to check web pages, forums, etc. "Brewed locally since 1893" |
