This is a call to all forward thinking Gallenteans... a call for unity, a call for sanity, and a call to claim your rightful place in the universe we inhabit.
My thought is not a new one - there have been numerous calls for unity through out our history. Calls to pull together all the rag tag corporations of 5 or 6 loose associates into a single cohesive unit. I'm talking about the power of one. I'm talking about safety in numbers. I'm talking about economies of scale, and I'm talking about achieving more as a collective than as a single family.
If you share my vision of Gallenteans returning to power and standing up to the forces of oppression by uniting under one banner, please send me a mail.
I'm particularly interested to hear from like minded corporations with less than 20 members. This vision will fail if we try to throw everyone together too quickly and without proper consultation (after all, we Gallenteans are known for our proud individualism). But slow sustainable growth will benefit all concerned - it just requires good will and a willingness to join the cause rather than simply doing your own thing.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply Shintoko Akahoshi. Yes my original post was a bit vague, but empire building was not what I had in mind. Having strength, using strength, and abusing strength are very different things, and my call for unity was directed purely at the former.
I was primarily coming from an economic angle and don't mean to suggest we have "lost" anything as a race, merely that we are not yet as efficient, rich, and organised as we could be.
It's sad that our aspirations to better ourselves have caused such defensive responses from the other races within just 12 hours of my original posting. But envy and mistrust are inevitable I suppose, until such time as we have demonstrated that we can better ourselves without undermining other denizens of this beautiful universe.

You are right to stress the important values of individuality and freedom that we Gallentean hold so dear. I see no conflict between unity and individuality however - but I understand where you're coming from. I'm not suggesting some Caldari mega-corporation where the spirit of the individual is replaced by the spirit of the collective.
But to take things to a practical level, the Gallente Federation has never answered my call for assistance, never supported our economic endeavours, and never contributed to our research efforts. I think the Federation is exactly what we need - but in a form that works. A large network of loosely affiliated individuals, free to pursue their own goals, but unified in key areas such as mutual defence, and a desire to help ones fellow.
I believe that big is beautiful, and that unity around core values does not have to mean compliance and uniformity with every small thing.
Maybe it's early days, but I'm feeling discouraged at the lack of interest in my proposal. I fear that one day we will be caught sleeping in our beds - either picked off one by one, or overtaken economically - because we were all content "doing our own thing" while other races realised the power of many acting as one, rather than the temporary comfort of many acting as many.

Thanks Dorian - though I'm left wondering whether I agree with you or disagree! I agree wholeheartedly in deciding as an individual what's right and standing up for your own values and integrity even if popular opinion is against you.
Sadly I've seen the lone idealist squashed unceremoniously on many occasions just because he/she didn't think to gain strength by combining with other like minded individuals.
If you're talking about ideals and strength of character - YES! If you think one man can make a difference, I'd say you were dreaming unless that one man leads other likeminded men to act as an army rather than a rabble.

Now you've got me ;)
I feel passionately about the vision of a unified Gallente federation-alliance-corporation (call it what you will) but don't yet have all the answer about how to achieve it.
I think I could describe what a successful outcome would be, and hope that others more gifted and inspired than me might be able to chart a course to that end point:
- Truly massive, coordinated mining expeditions made up mainly of Gallenteans
- A small number of major Gallentean corporations instead of a larger number of small ones. These would be sufficiently different to cater for all tastes and leanings, but strongly bound to one another.
- Active and widespread participation in Gallente political, industrial and military events.
- Communications forums that were buzzing with material of interest to Gallenteans.
- Support mechanisms by Gallenteans for Gallenteans, to help us through the bad times (loss of ship, loss of goods, loss of motivation or direction).
- FEELING part of a large community and identity, rather than feeling largely alone in a universe where being Gallente means nothing.
I'd be delighted to hear other people's positive ideas about how we CAN help each other through coooperation, rather than the more negative stream of thought that leads to us all doing our own thing in splendid isolation.

Hafthor - thanks for your thoughts. Could you say more about how your corporation and allies are going about preserving freedom? This is a key topic and I'd be very keen to learn from your experiences and understand where we might be able to play a part?
There was once a philosopher called Nietzsche who reflected that in some of the most "free" forms of expression (art, music, dance, poetry) what you saw was not complete unbridled chaotic freedom, but great creativity COMBINED WITH a minimum amount of structure (the tools and colours of the painter, the basic mathematics and form of a symphony, the "correct" way of performing a piroutette, or the rythm and stress patterns found in classical poetry).
I guess to summarise my call for unity, I am suggesting a little more structure would actually help achieve even greater freedom for us Gallenteans.

Hmm, I can see my call is falling on deaf ears. I raise the flag and call for unity, and what I get are insults from the other races, and other Gallenteans trying to curb my freedom by trying to tell me what it means to be Gallente and how I should think and behave. In other words, more interested in imposing their "freedom" than in banding together in a common cause and putting differences to one side for the sake of the great results a group can achieve.
I find myself becoming more sympathetic to the ideas posted by our Caldari neighbour (above) than I do by the feeble protestations of my fellow Gallenteans that the status quo is somehow "ok", or by the hippie ideal that we should all sit back and "do our own thing, man".
I now realise that the only thing we Gallentean have in common is that we have nothing in common, and I wonder how long it will be until we are surprised in the night while still bickering about the philosophy of free will.

Thanks Shintoko and Dorian - you've re-energised me just enough for another reply...
In my naievety I was hoping to receive an enthusiastic response to my basic idea, and then start bouncing ideas off like minded people. I confess I don't have a roadmap to unity planned out in convincing detail and feel exposed suggesting one for fear of further pot-shots, but here goes anyway by way of a straw man:
1) Establish, moderate, and support a channel ("Gallente") for general discussion of Gallentean topics. Nothing secretive, other races welcome as long as they're constructive. Could evolve for military use at some point if required. Most channels die due to underuse sooner or later, so serious commitment from leading corporations sought. [I can implement this, but will need active support].
2) Organise and support a regular (but not too onerous) Gallente mining event. Idea is for a massive turnout in a fairly safe sector. More social than serious. A kind of experiment in mass cooperation. [Any volunteer could organise this, and publicise via the Gallente channel]
3) Start up an informal Gallente trading cartel. Rules would be simple: if you join you undertake to offer a 5% discount to all other members of the cartel in return for the same deal when buying from them. [Would need an in-flight website which displays current list of member corporations. Complaints and membership would need to be maintained and processed by a volunteer. I have no web skills or would take this on myself].

Shintoko - I think a website could really cement things. How would you feel about creating some sort of "Coming soon - the Gallente Cartel" or something similar, using some of the content in this threat to whet the appetite?

OK Gallente Channel is here! I'm mostly on from about 19:00 Eve Time but don't be discouraged if the channel looks empty for the first little while. It will take time to grow and if you keep it open by default then wonderful and surprising conversations WILL happen...

Shintoko - the thought of an evolving collaborative website (wiki) is a great one and I look forward to having a play around very soon.
Dorian - far be it for me to impose a signature, but I'd be delighted if you and others made a gentle plug for the Gallente comms channel and the terrific website Shintoko has prepared for us.
Regarding the Gallente channel - I would like to suggest an informal meeting time of 18:00 (Eve Time) every Sunday. Hopefully that will avoid disillusionment caused by repeatedly checking an empty channel. If that time is good I hope to talk to you then...
I'll also post this as an "event".

Jessica - you told us today on the Gallente channel that you would like to see Gallenteans stand up and be strong for once. You also expressed disappointment in the Gallente Federation which in your view has failed to meet the needs of our people since the first gate closed.
I would like to hear more of your ideas - how can we be strong? How can the current Gallente Unity movement succeed where the Gallente Federation has failed?

I'm with Vendris and Shintoko on this one!
More examples of (modest) results that have been achieved so far via the Gallente Unity movement:
* Several trading deals completed between members advertising on the Gallente website.
* A small but active community giving guidance and support on the Gallente channel.
* A couple of freelancers recruited into Gallente corporations.
* Exchange of extremely useful information regarding alliances and the Eve universe in general.
* Some great friendships developing.
* 27 individuals and 6 corporations now in contact with each other would previously have just passed each other by.
Part of the strenght of our race its diversity and range of beliefs and ideas. I hope we might all have the dignity to respect other's views and applaud their efforts even if we don't feel the call ourselves...
