Hey.
Wenever i seen a pvp encouter etc the most popular thing seems to be HAC's, i looked at prices of them... and 245mil?? i looked at structer and only had 1275... thats nothing?
is it because of all the resistances? im just confused. i know a lot of people use them... just equip em with med blasters and get in close and fight or what? thanks.
*edit* i been playing on and off for the past few months and last skill i trained during about a month break was cruisers 5. im cal and training for advance cruise if i were to fit this with those would it be a nice killing machine? i know i shouldnt fight in what i dont know how to.. but just curious

They have alot of firepower for the most part, high resistance to damage second.. Third many alliances have a bpo or haqve relations with builders so they are alot cheaper then that.. 50-80 mill more likely is their price.

They're for those who can afford them... obviously there are plenty of people who think they are worth the price.

I wouldn't say most alliances have the BPOs, but they do know someone who does and get good deals on some of them.
But looking at structure is a pretty useless thing. It's the least important attribute on a ship, IMO.

HACs are very specialized ships.
Their high resists make them ALL good tanks, although (Sacrilege and Eagle, for example), are much better than others (Deimos, particularly, although Nyphur would disagree).
The also have things they're REALLY specialized at doing. For example, the Eagle is basically the best sniper in EVE (although the Caldari Tier 3 railgun sniper battleship maybe eclipse it), the Deimos is probably the best kamikaze full-speed-ahead-and-damn-the-torpedoes gank ship, the Vagabond is kind of like an interceptor with an incredible damage output, etc etc.
They're not all-around I-Win buttons like some people think they are, and financially, they tend to be a bad idea, but they're damned fine ships. I have an Eagle that I bought mostly for NPCing so that I can easily make enough money to PVP in my Harpy and replace it at will (the Harpy is a REALLY fun ship, I just love AFs).

An Eagle with a Large Shield Booster II, Shield Boost Amplifier, and Photon Scattering Field II is a really kickass shield tank, and even better if you substitute faction/officer mods in there.

HACs are mini battleships. Nice to buy, nice to fly, once broken, not very nice to own. For everything else, there is always cruisers.

dont forget to look at the capacitor capacity/recharge rate...I always see people talking about what they can fit or its resistances...no one ever mentions capacitor....
The HACs all have crazy fast recharge rates...(generaly up to half the time to recharge compared to their cruiser counterparts) and usualy have a higher capacity than cruiser counterparts...add that to the fact you have the number of modules a bs generaly has, the speed of a cruiser and some cool racial bonuses this class of ship can be a real pain in the but if your going against it
Probelem is...if you are in one during fleet engagement you tend to be everyones favorite primary target

HACs have crazy high resists while being agile as a crusier without slowboating it around like a battleship.
Hence, they are great!

245m? Not even hacs cost that much yet, either it was very overpriced or it was a Command Ship (Elite Battlecruiser).

Not even cerberuses are that expensive yet.
Just because one idiot puts one up at 245m doesn't mean that's the going price. I've seen them on escrow for 180m or less not being bought.

hacs are fun ships. however their expensive to lose.
a battleship is usually ( and should be ) better than a hac 1v1 and u get good insurance money back.
realistically you need to know someone who has the bpo to play with them, so you can get them relativey cheap.
