The idea being that you can activate a distress beacon and call for help.
First you "register" the beacon to call out to only certain individuals or Corps(that way you don't invite more trouble nor do you answer a beacon that puts you into trouble). When you activate the becon a notice is sent to those you want to call out to if they are in the same region. The beacon notification has a warpable bookmark + current status of your ship + intel on who's attacking + an added note by the sender if they chose to include one.
Merc, Headhunter Corps can charge a fee in association with recieving and responding to distress calls.

Very nice idea. SOS button could definatly work but mabe if the msg was only sent to corp/alliance and any corp you corp has set standing to +4.0 and above

Hello all,
First off, let me say /signed. I like Vinny's idea of having it sent to befriended corps, and that could even be made more possible with the upcoming changes in Kali such as the treaties or whatever they're called.
However, the extra note wouldn't work that well, as I see it being deployed only when one is getting ganked. If it had a 1-jump radius and couldn't be used in station (the EMI would interfere with the broadcast), I can completely see this happening.

Yeah definatly. I mean...if someone you're allied to or do business with is getting harassed and you are within a short hop from them you can recieve their S.O.S. and respond. Or if you are in a league specializing in keeping certain systems safe from piracy you can respond and charge the Corp a fee since you are risking your own ship + ammo and damage expenses to help save their ship and cargo. If you are making the distress call and get saved I don't think you'll mind or your corp will mind parting with some ISK or whatever as payment since the loss of a ship + cargo would be far greater than the rescue fee. Or perhaps a weekly or monthly contract could be made, so much ISK per.

Skills could maybe increase the raduis of the beacon. similar to the market skill, lvl1 system, lvl2 5 jumps and doubles for each level after that.
Would be even nicer with the addition of someone else's idea of being able to take passengers on some ships. If the person lost their ship and is sitting in a pod in a safe spot, you could then give them a lift home.

Actually that ship passenger idea was one I suggested a while ago . I guess the support ship could run an extended shield around the pod till it was securely docked in the support ship.
Yeah, definatly think a 911 for EVE pilots a good thing.

Edited by: Ja''kar on 04/04/2006 17:48:52 Like the idea but would like to see
(1) Local killed (2) The becon transmitted in local (3) For the person who transmits the signal to be able to be found by all
Why?
(1) That way other ppl in local can come and help in the killing or defend as they wish, and would give some reason to use local other then just chatting
(2) See above
(3) As I think it would be fair and eve is about risk so there should be some risk in the use of the becon
Also would like to see naked woman but thatĘs another thread

Agreed. Should transmit to all. Yes, might attract sharks to blood, but might just make yourself a new friend who comes to save your butt.
Also probally quickly develop into a way to lure people into ambush...

But.. I dont need to complicate.. but trying to make it better...
I think that ALARM should be fired by a Ship Deployable Equipment. That SOS Deployable Equipment would need a skill to be used, and the player skill level would say the range of it, like lvl 1 = Solar System, lvl 2 = Constelation, lvl 3 = 10 Jumps... 5 = Region.
The players that would recive a msg would be all players of its member corp and alliance in range of the owner skill.
No need a bookmark location on the msg, it would just be needed the spot appear on the overview list when the mates arrive in same system.
That would be a AMAZING addition to PvP side of the game.

Yeah having the distress beacon transmitted generally to all basically defeats the purpose of it entirly because you might just attract the wrong people to you. So in effect your distress beacon becomes as much a liabilty (and perhaps more so depending upon system) as a possible benefit. As well it interferes with the concept of corps offering rescue services. The idea is that either your Corp, your allied Corps, or a Corp offering protecting services would recieve the call. Skills can be built to increse number of contactees as well as range (though of course outside a certain range it's pointless as you'll probably be podded by the time help arrives).

Would definaly be a quick way to bring out the local pirate hunters if someone is being ganked. Make those griefers run, I say! Non Nobis, Domine, Non Nobis, Sed Nomine Tuo Da Na Glorium |

Good idea, here's my take:
Beacon activates and is only visable to friendlies IN SYSTEM. If you are being ganked... chances are you aren't going to last if ppl are 10 jumps away. The idea behind this, is to prevent attracting sharks. (what is the point of a shark repellent if it attracts them?!?!?!). Also this would prevent would-be pirates from setting one in low-sec and baiting good-willed players.
Other than that, Get Teamspeak or ventrillo, and if your playing EVE alone with no friends... you're probly the one making the guy activate the beacon

But NO general transmission, or it will never be used by anyone 'cept pirates trying to bait people.

Perhaps with some better skill/equipment, one culd be able to send more information along with the SOS signal. Like the number of hostiles on overwiew.

Aslo have a respond button next to the ship reset and cambat overview buttons, when a corp mates Sos goes off it flashes red, you click it and begin warping to him, alternatively pushing that button when opaque would begin your personal SOS becon, it should be intuitive for a few reasons
SOS mean Help me now! if you want to keep baiting out of it, make it only deployable at 20-30% armor HP, but friendlies should be able to respond quickly.
Also you'd expect ships in space to have intergrated SOS and some rescue systems, even if its only respondign quickly to sos coordinates.
Overal I give this idea a 9.9
10.0 is reserved for doomsday devices that let me win eve :D lol
(that was a JOKE to any flamers :D)
