I did EVERYTHING I possibly could to fix the CtoD problems I was having with EVE. Everytime I left a station, blam!! Hello desktop.
I tried everything suggested from updating drivers, get the AMD Dual-core drivers, new video drivers, that CPU scheduling fix from MS, setting the CPU affinity, everything.
But I finally found one thing that actually DID work. By editing your C:\boot.ini file, and adding "/onecpu" (no quotes) to the end of the last line (the line that has the boot info "multi(0)disk(0)..."_, you should see your problems go away.
They did for me.

The constant crashing to desktop is the issue with Dual Core CPUs, but I never heard it causing problems to HT (Hyper-Threading) CPUs.
In fact, I have P4 HT CPU, and Eve plays fine for me. So your title to this thread maybe a little incorrect.
Another fix for Dual Core CPU crashing is to run a second instance of eve or any other game on the background. That worked for a lot of people, and it will definatly save them the trouble of editing boot.ini and forcing their Windows to boot using only 1 cpu core.

Heh your solution is like leaving the "Turbo" button toggled off on an old 486. OMG, how can you stand not running in turbo!

Look I have a PENTIUM 4 Processor and I have the same issue. I don't think is related to AMD ! EVE support is avoid of giving me a real solution because they don't have one. I guess they are really amized about that BIG ISSUE with "crash to desktop".

Anyone of you happening to run 64-bit Windows? Any change? Better/worse?
Or did I just waste money on my new 3800+ X2 CPU since I will have trouble EVE'ing?

40 Mhz was too fast for Scorched Earth... I had to turn turbo off to play at 16 Mhz
Do the crashes happen if you assign your evefile.exe to one CPU via the task manager? I kinda want to splurge on a dual core opteron once exams are done but I don't want to have problems with it :P ----------------------------------------------- Hard work MAY pay off later, but procrastination always pays off now! |

Edited by: Raven DeBlade on 05/12/2006 11:29:51 You can also download this fine application Task assign Add this to autostart and then "assign" software i.e EVE to run on specific CPU core 0 or 1. After that you dont haveto fiddle with task Manager everytime you start your PC. I Have assigned 1 CPU per client i run and it works fine.

Ok, so the Rev patch came out. I log on and start flyin around, everything's cool. I'm in Period Basis region. I decide to JC to Rens and buy some skills. I JC, buy the skills, and start heading out to where they were....2 jumps from Rens. I go into warp just fine. When I reach the stargate and the area loads, I CTD. Petition it, get put back in a station, and I'm fine. As soon as I warp to a stargate, it CTD's again. I log on to another char on the same account and the same thing happens. I log on another account and 2 different chars....same thing happens. The other chars are in different systems and regions than my main char. After many petitions and many replacements in stations, I decide to JC back to Period Bases, where I currently fly all over the region with no problem at all.
I read this post and tried the solution from the first post, log on and try it. I successfully warp to a gate. AWESOME!!!! So I go dock and start going about normal business, undock and head to my destination gate and BAM!!! CTD!!! Now I'm back to square one. WTF?!?!?!?!
I got an AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3400+ 2.00 GHz
FIX IT, CCP, FIX IT!!!! I'M SUPPOSED TO BE KILLIN RAGOONS RIGHT NOW!! LOL

According to the latest patch notes the CTD at jump gates is fixed. So all of those saying that there was nothing CCP could do because of faulty RealTek and Direct X were wrong. Still, we don't know if the patch works as intended yet, so the "it's RealTek/DirectX/AMD/Intel/Flying Spaghetti Monster's fault" crowd may yet be right.

I've tried everything everyone has listed above, nothing is doing it. I'm testing this all on the test server, so the new patch is not fixing the problem.

#1: the answer to your last post is in the quote you got from me.
#2: my processor isn't dual core, at least that's what the program i downloaded from the link you left told me.

Edited by: Facetious One on 05/12/2006 16:07:16 1 Did not seem like in 6 minutes you could have A) downloaded the file B) installed and seperated the programs c) Log onto a server D) Crash to desktop E) Follow up with a post
2) rto avoid confusion in the future... you may not want to post your single core problems in a dual core thread....<shrug>

well it's the same problem, doesn't seem much difference for the fix. and if you can do all that in 6 minutes, i think you need to get a computer that's a lil more recent than 1999.

I am wondering if specific hardware lists would be in order. I do had CTD when undocking. Almost consistantly. But this last patch that said it addressed the problem actually worked for me. I have not had a CTD since. I'll list my info as best I can.
WIndows XP 64bit (up to date) AMD 64 X2 +4400 (OC'd to 2.7ghz) 2 gig Crucial ram (CMX1024-3200C2 x2) eVGA 6800 GT (not OC'd) Nvidia 93.71 drivers Audigy 2

Ive been running on windows xp x64 for the last six months or so now, not experienced any problems with eve whatsoever, and driver support is just fine now for x64.

honestly I don't think any one thing will solve this for everyone. different solutions work for different people. for me, running eve in window mode causes it to not crash. I don't like playing in window mode, so I use EveMon's "Relocate eve window to fill monitor" option. This actually works out better, because I can alt+tab out of eve without causing it to minimize. so I can look at something on my other monitor and still keep an eye on local :) before I figured this out I was getting a CTD about every 5 to 10 mins, usually when I was warping.
It would be nice if we had the option to choose between DirectX and OpenGL (because this is supposedly caused by DirectX). Several games have this option, and with modern coding practices it's really not that difficult to impliment (assuming the graphics code was designed with some degree of modularity). It would be a worthwhile time investment, considering people quit playing because of this all the time.

I seem to have fixed mine (crosses fingers)in a way which is quite bizarre.
I was stuck in the Login > warp to gate > crash cycle like a lot of you, could not stay logged in, I checked security permissions on the CCP folder and although i am a member of the admin group my actual login had no rights at all to the folders. I granted full control for my user and applied (this applies to sub folders too), logged in, warped to the gate and i have done around 25 jumps now.
This may be a fluke, or just luck, either way i cannot get it to crash now to retest, but if someone with the same issue could try it? If it works great if not it was worth a try.
Thanks
BF
