Sometimes at the character, "black-screen-of-death" page you can randomly click around on the black screen and get eve to load. I did that last night and was able to log into the game. The game ran fine once I got in. So, somehow this bug is just affecting the character selection page and no other part of the game. Weird. So, this has to be something with the code associated with events related to only the character selection page.

Quote:The problem is if the old code was brought back before these problems started happening, the AMD cards will then have an issue. What broke EVE for the Mac users and many other users was fixing the AMD issue.
I'm not sure this has to be true. If a link to a pre-Feb4 patch were made available, I could import that patch and all would be well on my system. I don't see how this would have any impact on other user's systems. In the mean time CCP could work on the issue and I would be able to maintain play. |

CCP Snorlax wrote:We have not had any luck in reproing this, but we have a patch going out tomorrow where we have at least an attempted fix.
I've gone through all changes to the graphics engine that went out in the patch that seems to have triggered the black screen on character select, and we're basically reverting those changes when running on a Mac. We're grasping at straws here, but I feel we have to try something.
This might be a silly question. But have you tried to repro this in windowed mode instead of full screen? Although the predominate error message that scrolls by is Quote:2/10/14 9:02:46.000 PM kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error , one of the errors that rolled by my log screen was, Quote:2/10/14 9:02:46.598 PM Console[504]: setPresentationOptions called with NSApplicationPresentationFullScreen when there is no visible fullscreen window; this call will be ignored. and made me think that perhaps that all of us that are experiencing this are running eve in windowed mode? Just a guess.

...and now after leaving eve minimized for about 15 minutes, I maximize the application and the character selection screen has resolved and I can log in. Odd. |

Yep. Last patch note says,
Quote: Mac
Fixed client freezing on the character select screen.
Not so much. Just before the patch, I signed up for 12-month subscription option. Yeah me.

It seems a little obvious that its an issues with some communication between EVE graphics and NVIDIA (at least on my computer) since the only graphics change was in the Feb. 4th patch and all was operating normally before that fateful patch. Why is it so hard to issue a deprecated patch? Why is my support ticket not being answered since Feb. 4th? I've been playing this game since 2007 and I don't recall a time when I have this much lag in a critical game-play bug. Trying my best not to turn this thread into an unhelpful gripe fest, but I think I'm loosing that battle. |

Great to hear, Snorlax. I just now got a follow-up notifying my that the issue was fixed with the Feb 12th patch. Uh, no it wasn't. Guess I'll be filing another bug report. |

I have Fusion 7 installed on a partition on my computer and windows 7 loaded there. I might download the windows version of EVE like some other have done so and give it a spin there and report back here. Does anyone know if the profile settings in the Mac directory are compatible with the Windows version? That is can I copy my profile files from my Mac port and paste them into my Windows port of Eve? |

The SiSi patch works on my system just fine. I have all options cranked up on the SiSi client and there do not seem to be any faults that I've seen yet. So, again, the patch on Singularity is working on the system below:
MacPro 15-inch, Mid 2009 Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

Fifhaden Ambramotte wrote: ... Is CCP working on this issue? I've seen what looks like a few weeks of posts around the topics but it's hard to tell.
Yes. Look at the previous posts. As you said, there have been days and days of posts regarding this topic mainly on this thread and this thread. They implemented a patch on the Singularity test server. I believe that patch is working on most or all of our systems, perhaps. It sounds like that patch will be implemented on the main server (Tranquility) on Tuesday. |

All, check your graphics settings in the energy saver preferences. Next to "graphics", you should have it set to "Higher Performance". Some (but not all) of you might have been locked out by a bug in your affecting your internal graphics card (like myself) which you didn't know you were running on and that you shouldn't be running eve on anyway. I believe some OS system default to better battery life. |
