Edited by: Lunar Miner on 04/04/2006 17:48:55 Currently our corporation is making 500 million isk every month profit in moon(raw and reacted) and regular mineral contracts. The organization that we supply came to us and requested a steep increase in supply(which will give us an average of 1 billion profit total every month) and in order to capitalize on this opportunity we decided it was necessary to get help from the Eve public.
We have been dealing with this organization for 6 months now and our corporation has been around for over a year but we decided it was better to use the alt corporation in order to not draw attention to ourselves. The organization has promised us any help we might need to protect our assets but we would rather not get into that situation needlessly.
We plan on creating 5000 shares and selling them for 1 million isk each, this will generate 5 billion in capital for us to quickly expand our mining and processing. We have everything planned out in preparation of this IPO so once we get the funds we can expand quickly(and would be pointless if the proper moons were not available but we have them scouted and ready for mining).
Given our current monthly income of 500 million profit(guaranteed from our contract) we will be giving 500 million out every month in dividends(100,000 isk/10% per share per month) to start with. We will then use the IPO money to expand and fill the rest of the promised contract for 1 billion total in minerals. Our goal is to move dividends up to 15% fixed return per month, this will equate to 750 million(150,000 isk/15% per share) per month and leave the corporation with 250 million in profit for us to expand further.
Depending on how fast the IPO sells will determine how fast we can start taking advantage of the new contract, if everything goes quickly we will incorporate the new profit into our first dividends(after 2500 shares are sold or when we get the new equipment up and running whichever comes first).
We will not issue anymore shares, we plan on having a very reliable investment that does not take a year to recoup your initial investment.
We will be issuing dividends every 2 weeks(starting 2 weeks from the date of this post).
I will keep this post updated with total shares sold.
Shares sold: 0/5000 Cost per share: $1,000,000 2 Week Dividend: $50,000($75,000 after 2500 shares sold)
Please send isk to ôLunar Minerö and if you like an eve mail with how many shares you bought but I will be checking my journal so if you forget to eve mail then donÆt worry I will catch you. I have volunteered to head up this IPO so I will be playing this character until the majority of the shares have sold so I will be able to answer questions and dispense shares quickly(I am PST though so keep that in mind euros).
P.S. I will have proper financial statements to accompany the first dividend payout.
I will also keep this updated with my status: I am online

I just did the same with my corp for the most part and took aprox 4 days to sell all the shares. These are just my point of views to help you out.
A) I would not use an alt corp, I understand you not wanting attention but it also shows you may not be trusted.
B) Use your mains, they are probably well known if you have contracts as you say. I would personally never send this much isk to an alt in an alt corp.
C) You seem really worried about attention and protection, this scares me and makes me wonder where you have these POS"s. -----------------------------------------------

Thanks for the tips, from reading the previous IPO's I got the impression this was the best way to go. Its not that we cant protect our assests as our contract organization is fully capable of dealing with anything but we just want to stay as under the radar as we can. The less we have to bother them and the more we can concentrate on production the happier we are.
I understand that using an alt corp may slow down the IPO but I am confident we can build a name for ourselves in time and since we are in no rush the length of the IPO is a small matter while attracting pirate attention would be worse as then we have to bother our contract organization.

Although the IPO seems to be going well, would you consider the following idea (to speed up IPO, and to raise share value by having more skeptical investors involved as well).
You have respectable old (1 year) corporation in the background, and it is understandable that you don't want it to become public knowledge and potential target.
So, could you just pick a fellow that is trusted by all parties and give him detailed info about your enterprise, answering any worries he has? He then could in turn vouch in these forums that you indeed appear trustable, and have solid corporation in the background.
Thus you would get all the benefits; your security is not threatened, and interested shareholders have quite a bit less risk.
If the idea appeals to you, I'm confident that finding suitable third party is easy (perhaps someone like DC, Dark Shiikari, Khatred, Tournsoul etc)..

That is an interesting idea, I have to admit we did not think of that but we are not disappointed with the speed of the IPO, in fact we are very encouraged by it.
At this time, I do anticipate selling all of our shares, we have over a thousand on reserve for after the first dividend and we have been selling them quite quickly.
However, I will get the company's opinion on your idea. Perhaps we could reveal our identities to a large investor, somebody who has a vested interest in our interests.

Originally by: Lunar Miner Perhaps we could reveal our identities to a large investor, somebody who has a vested interest in our interests.
Thank you for the feedback; it might indeed be good a idea to get biggest investors more involved in your operation. Yet to act as a 'trust-broker', the fellow should not have any vested interest; just be generally trusted 'third party'.
Should you go through with that option, I'll be buying set of your shares; either through the IPO, or from post market (unless they far exceed IPO price).

Also there should be a vote going up tomorrow about letting investors with more than 500 shares see our operation and verify us for the rest of investors(this was asked for by our largest investors), it will last 2 days and the details will be in the vote.

Yep, this was a scam. The corporation no longer exists.
Despite losing ISK, I'm personally pleased that someone has done it while the stakes were low and the community will now be alert to buying shares off Corporations and CEOs of no reputation.
The down side of this of course is that corporations and CEOs of no reputation have a reduced chance of actually using the share mechanism to grow their corporation.

Edited by: Abram on 13/04/2006 17:02:27 Would be nice to get the isk back, if not oh well these things happen and we may as well all become scammers since its so easy to get away with it (I don't really mean that but this is a good incentive for others to do the same)

Its really too bad this is a scam, I was really looking forward to seeing how this side of eve work.
I find it really dissapointing that CCP would allow loopholes like this to increase the lvl of thievedom in the game.
If nothing comes out this, which is why i invested so little, I do hope this dishonety doesn't become a higher level of notoriety than its already become and CCP puts a stop to this in some form or fashion. Exo...

It's heartening to know that CCP condones this. Yup, real life. Thing is, in real life we've go tmuch more to do as far as background checking. Nothing can be taken at face value. What we have here, and in so many other cases, is characters both new and old playing the same shell game. Can you trust a 18 month old player more than a 18 day? No, not really. In any case, there is nothing to stop a player from presenting a plan, collecting the monies, and laundering the funds elsewhere. If CCP can't stop this, or won't, what the hell do you think they can do about ISK/Ebay/Macros?

gee...I can't decide to get upset for losing 10 million isk that will take a whole whopping 15 minutes to earn in 0.0 space rat hunting or to praise him for duping all of us. It always seems too good to be true when stuff like this happens, and our lust for greed motivated us as a group to buy this stock w/out researching this cat. We DON'T need to rip CCP a new one, because honestly this game can be won a few ways by cheating. I am sure his character is long gone and his true character is enjoying a billion worth of dishonest isk. He is reading this string laughing at us...but he just needs to remember, he pretty much ruined this for future IPOs by honest but new CEOs.

Teehee, I suspected as much when I read the first post. My suspections raised n-fold when the confirmation message asked to go bump the topic (which I did, too bad I decided against making a direct "scammy sounding" line there) ;)
Oh well, 20 shares down the drain. Not too much of a loss. Of course that isk could have been used for drinking quafe, but probably better this way. Good to see scamming starting to go on in share market.

ok, here goes my petition.
Me
a player called 'Lunar Miner' started selling 5000 shares in 'Sell' forum for apparent need in money for more moon mining, from 1 or 2 week ago. now i just received an EVE Mail from 'Lunar Miner' saying 'was this a scam?' i was so suprised that i checked that person's info and he quit to NPC corp and now the corp which i paid 25m to get 25 shares are worthless... no CEO, no owner whatsoever.
please... recover my, other people's money and ban this person forever and please recover all the money!
---------------------------------------------------------- GM Novalue
Hi there. I would like to ask you to file this here, in our 'Other' category:http://support.eve-online.com/cgi-bin/eve_online.cfg/php/endu ser/ask.php?p_ where we can take a proper look at it. Thank you.
---------------------------------------------------------- Me:
how about you get your ass on this **** right now?
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=31900 5
look and hurry the heck up and block that account and recover our money please.
asking for a proper catecory when this is a scam.. pathetic ----------------------------------------------------------- GM Novalue A scam is what happens when someone takes advantage of your misplaced trust and robs you of your possessions via legal in-game means. When this occurs, there is nothing the GM-¦s/Support Team can do for you. Although low and despicable, this is something that can happen in real life, and the world of EVE-Online has been made to resemble it in as many fundamental ways as possible. ------------------------------------------------------- Me
well, does that mean you will just let the scammer on lose? we got tens and hundreds of people who got scammed. i won't be happy if CCP responds like this. we won't be happy. yeh, we might just quit playing. not a big deal for you guys since you are GM and you get paid until CCP are broke. but i am sure CCP won't be happy on losing customers.
so, i ask you again. stop replying like 'we don't give a ****' way. i have had enough of you GMs replying like that.
either you produce a result, or you can take all the blames.
ps. at least... in real life people get punished within hours. ---------------------------------------------------------- GM Novalue
This player did not use an exploit to gain your trust and hard earned isk, and thus we can not do anything about this. Please accept this as my final answer on the matter. -------------------------------------------------------- Me
[15:54:31] Khor Gr'azh > Yes ppl can scam in rl.. Lands them in jail though.. But in eve it's all ok.
also,... you should listen to other people not just telling them to get lost.
1. who let 1 man corp to mass produce shares and sell them immediatly? CCP therefore scam.
2. who let 1 man corp to sell all the shares and let the CEO just quit the corp that left the corp CEOless and memberless? CCP you know people should not be allowed to let the corp memberless if they have shares sold.
3. who let 1 man corp receive money in player donation and give shares that it leaves little trace? CCP therefore Scam.
4. who let 1 man corp vote on the corp to produce 5000 shares? CCP. therefore explot.
not sure why my last msg did not go but i am sending again.
ps. pi got tons of reasons for exploit for this situation. so don't go around saying that it is not an exploit. ------------------------------------------------------- GM Novalue
I have explained to you that we do not view this as an exploit and thus we can not take action. I am going to close this petition as there is nothing I can do to help you. Take care. ---------------------------------------------------
Oh well, only lost 25m. already recovered them. but i won't expect anything from CCP from now on.

**** happens. I just hate knowing that this has screwed over sharemarket trading for every other player in the game from now on. I was about to unleash a massive new business (think credit union/loan sharking/scammer lists/debt collection/interest rates on loans/shareholders) and now I am thinking against it.
How can anyone expect to have enough credibility if no-one has to face consequences of their actions.
Player 1 scams players 3-500 for 5 billion isk. Player 1 sells 5 billion isk on ebay for $500. Player one uses $20 of the $500 to do a name change. Player 1 now becomes Player 2. rinse and repeat.
Scamming is fine, scamming through forums and completely unpreventable is not. This was not someone going bust (this would be acceptable), this was someone who outright told everyone he had scammed them (corporate vote). I only have 20m into this, but in a bigger sense, I will from now on refuse to support the younger players. They can all get screwed, and be treated like scum and completely untrustworthy, until I see they have been in the game for 1.5 years +

Yes, unfortunately the GM hasn't seen the problem here, that being that in game mechanics were not used for this scam, the sell forums were, and so far as i can tell, its against the rules, shouldn't this be accountable?

Edited by: Traxio Nacho on 14/04/2006 13:57:02 IntegralHellsing, you may want to remove the petetion answers ASAP otherwise the mods will lock this thread you are not allowed to discuss GM's comments.
Send a link of this to the mods as well as the rules of the forum state no scamming on the forums, this wont get your isk back but may however get this person banned/warn from the forums and possibly taken further.
Also note for the future never deal with someone that is clearly an alt.

thats the way they do it, if they dont like what u tell em, they change it so they are right.

I've waited a day to respond to this thread because it would seem a tad cruel to kick people while they are still recovering. I do feel sorry for those of you that got scammed by this guy because a betrayal of trust is always far more hurtful than the actual money loss. Now that a day has passed I think it would be fair to say that there were some pretty clear warning signs about this offering:
1) Proton Power's (a well known and respected industrialist) post right after the OP pointing out what was wrong with the offering and why he wouldn't invest money in it.
2) An alt character not being vouched for by an established character. We're not talking about "you're a noob and I can't trust you", we're talking about a flat out alt that nobody knew or stood up for, in an alt corp.
3) Lack of transparency in the business plan. No hard numbers, locations, or specifics. Everything was unsubstantiated arm waving and generalizations. For those factors that really had to remain secret a respected member of the community could have been brought in to verify the offer. The few numbers actually offered looked phony.
Basically the offer came down to "Hi, I'm an alt in an alt corp who makes a lot of money but I'm not going to tell you where or how beyond generalities because itÆs all super duper secret - please send money". As scams go this guy didn't even put a huge amount of effort into it.
Can you ever be 100% confident that something isn't a scam? No, but you can take reasonable levels of risk based upon how much information is being provided, and in this case the whole offer smelled from start to finish.
I'm sorry for those of you who bought shares from this guy and hope that you look at the money you have lost more along the lines of being tuition in order to improve who you give your trust to and send your hard earned money to. Take a bad experience (like losing a ship for example) and TRY to take the emotional pain out of it and then analyze why it happened, what mistakes you made, and how to improve your performance in the future. I know thatÆs easy for me to say, but try
Sorry if this post comes off like IÆm some sort of smart aleck know-it-all, I am truly sorry for you folks.
Warm regards,
Macon

Well I was done over in this scam/exploit too, so I lodged a petition (which I believe everyone scammed by this share market exploit should do). As first off it is against the sell order rules "5. Posting scam auctions and sales are not permitted here.*" and secondly if this sort of scam is in keeping with the real world, thus allowed in game, then there are real world consequences that someone doing this would suffer, all this has achieved is destroy another interesting aspect of this game.
E.G. whats to stop me from making an Alt today plus a new Corp, have my other Alt plus a few others owned by friends or another account join said corp, then wait 6 months (while playing my main of course) and post a share sale of what looks to be (from what we the potential buyers can see) seems to be an established Corp of 6 or even 12mths with a hand full of members, then grab the 5 Billion plus from the sale of the shares and just delete the Alts and rinse and repeat. Where as in the real world, companys listing on the share market (to my knowledge) are checked to see if they are legit, otherwise why would anyone buy shares? My issue, in this instance, isn't with the isk, its with the destruction of what I saw as an interesting part of the game. Oh well thats my two bob, off now to start a Corp, see you in 6 mths

Actions of these scammers truely are the lowest of the low, however I have to lay partial blame on the naivity of some investors. One thing for certain in EvE is to never trust an alt, regardless of the presentation; unless of course a respected and established player can vouch.
On the issue of game rules I have to say that the GMs have to take actions against these people. No scamming is permitted on the forums, yet this is an obvious scam. Alt collects money, and runs off with admitting to the scam. This isn't an business failure, it's a pure scam, and hopefully something that will be dealt with properly.

I got caught out on this one to the tune of 500m isk. I petitioned it based on the fact it was on the forums as a sell order, and the GM response I received to the petition was simply that it's allowed, and bad luck.
Now I hear they reinbursed someone else, if they stick with it, I'm gonna resubmit my original petition.
