I'm CEO of a small corp that works in medium-security space. We mine, refine, and build for the most part, enjoying the occaisional stint into deadspace and into low-sec belts for Hemorphite. Oftentimes we have 2 barges and 2 haulers, using drones from the barges as defense. My question is for the Macro-Miner hunters out there. How would you tell the difference between us four players and dedicated ISK-makers? We've been victims of ore-duggery on occasion, and our worry is that if we were to retaliate we'd be flagged and hunted down...now that fear is changing to being labelled as macrominers!!

Macrominers that want to make a profit rather than a loss do not mine in anything less than 0.5, preferably no less than 0.8. Simply responding in chat should, however, be proof that you are not a macro miner.

Well, you'll get rid of most macro-hunters just by responding in decent English when they start nosing around.

We've had a few come tearing in to ram us...nothing on local, but when we tartet them they usually bug-out. I'd think the Player-corp tag would make it obvious...of course maybe the ones we've seen are relatively new pilots fresh from reading the forums.

Adding the word "macro" to the word "miner" makes people who participate in this behaviour feel better about themselves. It's fake, and hypocritical. These people are not CCP. They aren't the system police. They are pirates, full stop. Bring a battleship with a cloak, let them assume you're macro miners because they dont bother to check. Let them steal from you, and blow them out of the belt.

Edited by: Usul Faust on 05/04/2006 09:48:42 i agree.
The VAST majority of these 'anti-macrominer patrols' are just on the lookout for a cheap gank, and try to make out they have some altruistic ideals, rather than a burning desire to shoot something.
OH! HE DIDN'T REPLY IN ENGLISH! MACRO MINERS MUST DIEEE!
they're proto-pirates who don't like going up against targets with guns.
no skills, just luck.

Or just maybe, they are long term players, who have seen their home systems stripped of anything usefull, tried to find new homes only to see it happen again.
Go down to Tash Murkon and take a gander at the belts, if there is a 'roid with more than 2k of kernite left, get it before some sweatshop gets it.
The fun of blowing them to hell and gone is just an incidental benefit...

anybody that dosen't speak english anybody that dosen't reply to a convo anybody that dosen't bother typing in proper names for their cans anybody that dosen't have a sensible/cool/sci-fi enough name anybody that dosen't attack people with their mining barge anybody that dosen't hate mining
these are the rules. learn them well.
also: you can probably just kill *any* industrial ship you come across, since they are likely to be one of the THOUSANDS of macrominers who make up 99.99% of Eve's population.
no skills, just luck.

People with a macro program (a program that repeats certain actions over time) either written by themselves or downloaded off the net (more often downloaded off the net) that leave EVE running 23/7 with a noob char sitting in a belt in a retriever/covetor stripping belts of everything possible. They then generally sell the ISK gained on eBay for real cash.
It's sometimes hard to tell the difference between a group of macrominers and a group of dedicated miners, although there are thousands of little clues that give it away. Generally if someone says 'oh I thought you were a macrominer' when you challenge him, he's not checking hard enough. Or he's too paranoid. Easiest way to combat that would be a BS with a cloak sitting somewhere nearby you to warp in and mega-gank anyone who even looks at your cans funny, as someone else in the thread said.

Certain names have a 'macro' feel to them. I think if a player doesnt convo anyone with a fairly pronouncable name, then they're just an ore thief. If I see a covetor with a ridiculous keyboard-mash name in an npc corp for 6 months, there's a strong chance he's a macro. He's likely to get robbed.
But other than those situations, convo is the way to go. Sometimes you'll be wrong. There is a player with the name "goodby4u" or "goodbye4u", and he is a real person. I imagine some players might try luring in ore thieves by renaming themselves and their cans to look macro too.
So yeh, true macro thieves would really suss out a can before nabbing it. Those guys bugging you are ore thieves.

Im new. Not even out of the trial yet. Gonna stay i think. Friends and I were Running Bucket relay from our Miner. Yes hes actually at the KB. Miner calls out BOGEY. 2 of us are using Destroyers t1 guns on them Another is in a Frigate. Not a real threat for a vet. We came In and Immediatly Lit this guy up with targeting. He warped Imediatly and Was talking to the Minor saying he couldnt Believe that we were so on the ball.
Moral it seems is They dont really want a fight. Run some Security to protect your Interests. Thinking of Making a Corp just for this sort of service.

Thanks for the sound advice. In addition to watching AND announcing on local, we now fly a battlecruiser and a destroyer as support.

They are on a crusade and hence blind. No player has the right or even the abilities to judge other players. Petition them to get rid of this suicide throwaway alt pest.

Ganking is part of the game. No sense crying about macro-hunters, they are all part of the wonderful life of EVE.
If you aren't a macro-miner, you can respond when your ship is convo'd. A good macro-hunter will convo before doing anything to interfere with your operation.
If someone's a real player, they won't have any problems from a macro-hunter. If they are a macro-miner, though, no rules apply. Hunt them down, trick them with a can swap, and destroy every sucker you can. I have no pity for them. ---

Yeah... Destroyed a covetor and watched the pod fly back to the station, only to return to the original mining spot several times. I guess the scrip didn't include the ability to detect a general lack of high slots.
About an hour and a half later, I got a eve mail from the target, saying that he/she/who cares was going to petition me for harassment.
This was last November. I still awaken from a deep sleep at night worrying about what is going to happen to me.
I never thought of miners as such worry warts. Jesus, what a whiny lot. I was a miner once, Now I fight and run missions. No money in mining anymore. Got my main in an Alliance, though I spend more time as a Reservoir Dog. More fun than staring at a rock for someone elses ship...
Name is so Macro... Wonder if he did it on purpose of making a target of himself so he can whine like a gut shot hooker when he ends up a pod...
