I'm about to get a Tempest and I have my layout all planned out. I'm going to be fitted for long range, arties and cruise missiles and I have one last med slot open.
What I'd like to know is what would be recommended? A webber so that if something closes I have a higher chance of damaging them or a target painter so that my missiles do more damage to them?
Thoughts appreciated.

Generally speaking, you definately should go with the Target Painter. Webbers, so far as I am concerned, are useless on missile boats. Missiles have great range, and unless someone gets out of range and you can't catch them, a webber is useless. The Target Painter will do far more damage overall instead the "in case" something gets close, which isn't even that bad because missiles hit at all distances. ---------

I've been thinkin about this very subject. When I go belt hunting I've tried on both a webber and a Target Painter and I've had similar results.

Definately use your midslot for a target painter, but make sure to bring some light drones for frigate defense if you arn't packing a web. --------------------------------------------- I hear Linux can cure cancer and raise your sperm count. - Dionysus Davinci

Edited by: Jefski on 05/04/2006 09:08:26 How about webber vs painter vs tracking disruptor etc on a rifter and in a few days jaguar/wolf?
I know that a disruptor has an opposite effect compared to the others, but still wondering what the best ew midslot is for those ships.

You have a long range setup; if you're ever close enough to your enemies to use a web, you're either a) doing something wrong (they should have been dead or you should have warped long before) or b) you're about to die. Also, c) your guns will still miss even webbed targets at that range.
If you don't yet have three tracking mods, fit a tracking computer. If you don't yet have two sensor boosters, fit a sensor booster. There's really no better mods for an arty Tempest than those two (generally).
If you must fit one of your two choices, though, go with the painter.

Wow when I last looked at this topic no one had replied, sorry for hijacking another thread. I'll reply here.
Typically the really fast things get in before I can kill them all. However my tank is quite good enough to survive even if they get close. The only problem I really ever have is when I myself get webbed, if I'm not webbed then I don't sweat anything.
Even when I typically ahve time to take out everything that's not close before taking out the webber.
I'm just trying to figure out a way to be a bit more damaging against the things that do get close since it takes a lot longer to kill them.
I'll try out the painter.
Thanks for the replies!
