Aww I laugh at the little nooblets crying about a new patch everyday, its cute.
I'm betting none of you were here for the exudus/coldwar installs right? No? OHHH Uncle Reaper will tell you a story, gather around kids...
When I was your age and just learning to get my first battleship, there was a great expantion. This was code named Shiva, and it had lots of goodness in it. CCP stated that shiva will be called exodus and it will take 6 hours to install. The player base rejoiced at the goodies they were about to recive.
6 hours later and behold the server is still down. Foul! cried the players, the gods have forshaken us! And then Behold, for the gods then declared the server was having an issue and would be back up in 2 more hours. Much grumbling was to be had.
2 hours later the server starts to come up, and the people wept with joy for the new toys they would play with. But alas, just before players were aloowed in the gods made a commandment.. ooops, database error... yea this is going to take a bit. And much teeth mashing and forum warring was to be had.
Then lo came the call, ccp had brought the server up, a total of 1o hours late then planned, but YAY! And the people got ready to get on but alas, the gods killed the wrong hamster and the server was down again. Much frustration and grumbling was heard. the gods scambled to fix the universe, but lo they could not.
Announced an appoligy and rolled back changes to start over, server will now be down a total of 24 hours.
The cry of death to the gods went up. Then the gods said, and for behold, the loss od time shall be granted to everyone in two extra days of life. And the people rejoiced.
Then finally, after a full day (yes a full day) the server was up, and people logged in... but behold after a few hours time the great hamsters started choking, and the server crashed.
And then behold for the next two weeks (yes two weeks) the universe was put in a state of wibbly wobbly timey whimey and was slower then snail snot and crashed often.
And so it is written that all eve patches were as such.
Untll after the great boot.ini plague something changed. For behold, not the players just deal with many a patched, and the server is not longer in a flux of whibbly whobbly timey whiney. An whats that fair children? do the people rejoice that the curse of the expantions is lifted? No, the younglings now complain that you have to download a measly new file every few days...
Kids these days. |
