I'm still new, but now that I upgraded from trial and can post in this part of the forums, I figured why not make one of these threads?
Simple, just share the things you've done as a newb.
I shall start:
One time, I had a Caldari Navy Small Shield Extender. No idea how I got it but I figured I'd fit it to my Merlin. Well, I was told to sell it instead of using it due to the fact it cost more than what I was Pilot. I planned on doing so but it slipped my mind. Well, I do a Mission and my Merlin is destroyed. I realized still had the Caldari Navy Shield Extender fitted after I couldn't find it in my assets, I was planning to sell it to replace my Merlin.
A few people donated a lot of ISK to me, it totalled 145mil ISK from all the donations. First thing I did was train into Cruisers and get a Caracal. Now I'm terrified to undock it, so I use Destroyers instead. Only I don't get to pilot them often, so I still mostly pilot Frigates. Now I wonder why I even trained into Destroyers and Cruisers in the first place.
One time I piloted a Comorant into Low-Sec and saw an Ibis so I engaged, thus flagging me and giving me a -0.1 Suspect Level. The Ibis was a trap. I then got Podded on my way back into Caldari Space. |

The old mining upgrade line for Caldari went something like this:
Ibis -> Bantam -> Badger -> Badger II -> Osprey -> Actual Mining Barge
Those were the days, when you actually had to think about what you can make into a half-decent mining ship. Now we just get spoiled with Ventures :P. Despite what you may have heard there's only one rule of EVE:

Ah, I remember getting a Venture from a training mission. I used it for a drone combat ship until someone informed me that it was a mining ship. |

When more of a newbie than I am now, I never really paid attention to the mission details and I unknowingly accepted a mission in low-sec. I freaked when I got the warning message before entering the system in my rupture - I had no idea to check local, let alone d-scan for pirates. I went anyway and was thrilled when there was no one at the gate and I ran the mission successfully.
Of course I got greedy and was promptly blown to bits along my pod when i went back with my salvaging destroyer. And my clone was 30 jumps away because I didn't know you were supposed to move it. |

First time I used a Tracking Disruptor I knew it used scripts.
I assumed it consumed the scripts just the same as turrets consume charges and AAR consumes nanite paste.
So I bought scripts. Man I have so many scripts I swear I could probably swing a small market with them. |

Driving my shiny new Drake though a camped gate, and getting jumped by two Battle Cruisers, piloted by n00bs who could barely fit them. First major kill to me. :) Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Actually caring about my first Drake... I took it out on a roam with the Caldari militia, when I was primaried, I started screaming over mic because I didn't want to lose my Drake. Also lost 50m in implants.

As a new player, I flew from Dodixie to Erenta on auto-pilot using the shortest rout (thru low-sec) and was perplexed as to why I was getting shot at. I used auto-pilot so I'd have time to "chat" with the folks in local as I passed thru.
A low-sec pirate saw I was a 2 day old toon and convo'd me. He got me to safe up and spent the next hour in the chat with me explaining Eve's security areas instead of popping me for the easy kill.
Good guy ... great intro to the game

Solo Bestower from Lonetrek to Fountain @ warp to 15 before bookmarks were a thing. 4.5 hours later, op success.
+1 scouting in an Armageddon for corp move to Catch. I knew it was wrong. Did it anyways. I miss that Geddon.
For about the first two weeks in the game I was like "wtf is SKILLS". I got plenty of skills. Don't need no trainin'.
Pirates of the Carribean had just come out and I was determined to become a rat. I set out to Mara, maybe, in the Merlin of horror. Few jumps later, through the next gate, a fat flashy red Moa lands close enough to see the rivets in its hull. Never targets me. It was one of those eternal moments where all the past logins and undocks, mining ops and such flash through your mind. I wonder if that Moa is still out there, somewhere, waiting to finish that moment.
And then, just recently, I witness a Hulk slowboating through about 65k of bubbles in null. I'm like, itsbeautiful.jpg :'D |

As a new player before the new player tutorials I joined a nullsec corp. One of the other members suggested I pod myself out to nullsec and he'd donate ships and fits to get me started. So I moved my clone and self destructed. I woke up in the nullsec station. The corpmate was good to his word and immediately opened a trade window and gave me a drake and fits. Along with a couple of frigates. I was so excited to get out and make some isk!
A week later I made the long trip to empire again to meet with another player. His plans changed and I decided to save myself the long trip back to null and pod myself. I woke up in empire space in the starter system with a notification mail that said due to not having my clone updated I had just lost the equivelant SP of 15 days training in cruisers V. I was pretty pissed and very disappointed.
Lesson learned. Always double check your clone status before podding yourself. Update your clone...always! |

I once cargo rigged a drake cos I was to lazy to get a hauler.
Also in my first ever time in 0.0 . I figured I would get a better price for NPC drops in high sec than in Insmother, so I loaded up a iteron Mk 2 . And away I went. I hit a gate camp at the entry to high sec lost the lot.

Didn't learn about upgrading clones until I joined a player corp. I lost numerous amounts of SP and thought nothing of it. Coming from FFXI losing EXP on death was a normal thing so I just took it in stride. I trained learning skills to level 5 6 or 7 times before I vowed to never go to lowsec again. When I was asked why I said because I was tired of losing SP and having to retrain old skills.
Then I was told that I could just upgrade my clone and I would keep my SP. The more you know.
This paved the way for a successful can flipping career while I caught up on ship skills that I didn't train because I spent to much time relearning lost skills.
Now I am just a bad ass who gives no fucks about anybody or anything. If its not purple shoot it. |

Me and a buddy calculated that we would be better off selling the ore directly to a buy order at some station, than refining and selling the minerals (to buy orders, as we didn't know how to make sell orders).
Proud of ourselves, we went ahead with our "efficient" business of mining in frigates, into cargo hold, and flying 2 jumps to that station to dump the ore. |

I was thinking about this the other day... and remembered a couple of things.
The first was... I put on warp core stabilizers because I thought they would make my ship stop shaking while I am warping because the shaking ship always annoyed me. Eventually found the option in settings to stop the camera shake.
Second was... I loaded my thrasher's low slots with overdrives and then added a afterburner, thought I was cool because I got it up above 1km/s. I didn't realize there was a thing called microwarpdrives at the time. |

Glad it wasn't just me lol. I went into a faction warfare fight years ago flying a Catalyst with small blasers and large blaster ammo in the hold. I was like "WTF, why won't my ammo load!!!!111 grr ccp" lol.
It only gets worse with age. I move a ship and some mods across high sec last week to the low sec system (was gonna try the ship out in a 10/10 plex. Get into the low sec system, dock up, jump in my carrier and 3 cynos later I'm in null...
The ship and mods i just did 22 jumps to pick up were still in low sec though...... CCP should let me train Alzheimer's resistance to 5. |

Oh boy this will be fun...
Mining in a badger 2, before I realzed can mining was a thing.
Got a currier mission(old NPE tutorials) had to take the item 10 jumps away. Got in my ibis and flew the 10 jumps, docked and went to finish the mission, only to be told that the item was not there. Relaized I never put the item in my hold. Had to fly back and get it.
Shot a can in high sec, got killed by concord.
Got tricked into shooting someone in high sec (its an old trick, he locked me and I panicked)
Gave everyone who joined my new corp director roles....
After that, gave out starbase config role to everyone (this did not bite me in the butt for a few years, I was in null sec and lost sov of a system cause someone offlined a tower took me 20 min to figure out what I did wrong)
None noobish:
sold 50 t3 subsystems (at the time worth 63m each) for 63k
bought a 10m isk moduel.. that actually cost 10k
mistyped and donated 20m to the wrong person.
I still do this and need to knock it off: Flew to a gate in 0.0 and alt tabbed, got into a new story or facebook and alt tabbed back to clone vat. Sigh...
Ratted in a carrier without small drones, was warp scrambled by an NPC, fighters could not kill it, war targets came into system and promptly killed me.
Warped a Nyx to a a gate to help in a gate camp.... yea... good times.i'm officially banned from a titan lol.
did a mission, and realized I forgot ammo as my guns were reloading... and i'm warp scrambled..
Went to pvp was just about to decloak and attack someone, when I decided to check my cargo.. and oops no ammo.
ok that's good. |
