Okay, am still saving up isk and training up skills needed to run something like a Crane, but in the meantime I need to run/haul some goods through somewhat low-sec space.
I've come up with 2 potential Badger II builds and was wondering what sort of improvements might be made to it.
Hi: small tractor beam I 150mm Railgun I (could go smartbomb perhaps)
Med: Medium Shield Extender I 10MN AB ECM - Ion Field Projector I (or appropriate racial) 'Annointed' I EM Ward Reinforcement Heat Dissipation Field I Ballistic Deflection Field I
Lo: 2x Expanded Cargohold I and either 1x Expanded Cargohold I or 1x Warp Core Stabilizer I
Relevant attribs are as follows: Capacity (w 3 expanders): 9917 m3 Cap with secure cans inside: 12,700 m3 PG: 94.35 / 96.0 used (with 3 cargo expanders) Max Cap: 600 Max Cap Regen: 6.24 Shield HP: 1193.7 Shield EM: 50% Shield Exp: 60% Shield Kin: 70% Shield Therm: 60%
Some may ask why I didn't just go with 3 invuln fields instead of 3 seperate shield hardeners. Testing in Quickfit shows that running 3 invulnerability fields simultaneously drains the cap in slightly more than 1 minute (12 cap/sec), while I can run all 3 individual hardeners and never drop below 50% (5.67 cap/sec).
Of course, I don't plan on sitting around while getting tagged, but in case I need time to get aligned and warp out I'd rather not have my cap run to 0.

1x expanded cargohold, 2x nanofibers
or 3x nanofibers. or 1x expanded cargohold, 1x inertia stab, 1x nanofiber
in low sec, expanded cargoholds will make you align like a rock. its better to use naofibers/inertia stabs to lose aligning time, and get to safter quicker.
if you see anyone and youre not within jump range of a gate/they have a little plus symbol, warp out.

Here's my setup, designed in mind with 0.0 mining/hauling.
High: 150mm Railgun, Small Tractor Beam (can't use one at the moment yet) Medium: 10mn AB, Medium Shield Booster, Medium Shield Extender, 2 Cap rechargers, Invulnerability Field Low: 2 Nanofiber, 1 PDS
With current skills, I can reach over 450m/sec (cruiser speed), have over 1k shields with some decent resists and some boosting abilities. Recharge rate of capacitor should be more than enough to run everything smoothly. The 2 nanos should help with alignment, maybe fast enough like a frigate.
Hopefully, with engineering 5 skilled up in the future, I can install a 3rd nanofiber and not have to rely on a PDS or RCU to have everything fit. Strangely enough the industrial has a lot of CPU which I have no idea what to make use of...

imho, your badger fitting is flawed
Please consider the following.. you're going to do some low sec hauling, so you'd need instas.
..and if you have instas, you do not need an AB.
How about thowing away the AB into your hangar, and then filling your midslots with 3 medium and 3 small shield extenders.
Now, for the price of an AB you'd not need anyway due to instas, you've got over 3.5k shields instead of 1.1k shields.

Fit a cloak if you can.
Medium Slots: As many multispectral jammers as possible
Low: Nanos
the jammers have saved my arse before ;)
You can't tank an industrial well enough for it to make a difference, and your main problem will be warp scramblers. If you get tackled, jam the tackler and get out. Its still dicey, but its your best chance if you do get caught.
Best way to move industrials through low sec is to have a scout and instas.

@Kalavoz i have the same fitting like Delta Epsilon and it can save your ship when you come in a interdictor bubble.
what this fitting cant do, is to tank 100dps from one single sabre

What's the rail gun for? Intimidation? :P
The idea shouldn't be to tank, it should be to mainly stay out of combat. And IF you can't you need to get away immediately. If you don't, you are dead.

Ships that hand around sentry gates in low-sec, aren't going to be bothered by the 25s+ locking time and damage offered from a 150mm; trust me.
Best to swap them all out with passive resistance mods and that's it. Ignore the cloak; most people insta-lock.

If he's flying in 0.0 fair enough, but he said lowsec, so from that, am assuming he'll not have to worry about such bubbles, or interceptors at gates scramming him with no sentry guns to worry them.
As for the poster who suggested filling the medium slots with as much ecm as possible, how is the badger going to lock in time to use them before it gets killed please?
I'm happy to be convinced otherwise that an AB is needed in lowsec with instas, however... but at the moment I simply cannot see a use for an AB in lowsec, along with instas.

For low sec I would go something like that:
Hi: Whatever - possibly 2x small NOS or energy neut. Med: 2x Sensor Booster 4x ECM Low: 2x WCS 1x Nano (or expander if you really need it)
And you need instas. Without instas you will die in first encounter. This setup helps against those nice tanked things sitting waiting you to try warp off. It will not save you from snipers. So if you carry something you cant afford to lose use alt to scout and instas.

Come to think of it, I had a sensor booster in one of my mids. I managed to lock and jam an interceptor that was tackling me just in time to get out as his Deimos friend warped in.

25 sec locking time? wow, not me...
My Badger II set up:
Med. Anode Particle Stream I (infared/Multi) Small Nos ----- Barton Cap Recharger Fleeting Warp Scram 2x Compulsive Multispectral I's Y-S8 Hydrocarbon AB Med. C-5l Emergency Overload ----- 'Repose' I Core Comp. 2 Cap Relays
The Multis WILL save your bacon (ask Fuzzy Bar if yer ever around Hysera...) The Warp Scram is for holding them at the gates for gate guns to hose...new plan, ransoming in an indy...lol! With proper skills, the lock time is not as terrible as some make out, and you'll soon get a 'Feel' for whose going to try and pop you at a gate, and activate EW before they lock you, which speeds things up a bit. Not that I do much hauling these days.....

highs: 1x small tractor beam, 1x random turret (i use an arty just because) mediums: 2x multispec jammers, 1x kapteyn sensor dampner, 1x 10mn AB lows: 3x warp core stabs OR 3x cargo expanders (for when i need to carry a cruiser etc... For real, fit 3 nanos, and an ab if you have to, anything else is just gonna get picked out of ur can. Even with instas, they can catch you on the jump in.

Really. What ship can lock and destroy a badger II in the half second it takes to autowarp through the gate using instas? Coz I want one.

I've got no idea but the guy on the other side can have you warp scrammed and in deep structure by the time you align

I would suggest you stop screwing around with ECM and the like in your mids; that sets off the aggro timer and prevents you from jumping through gates.
Instead, invest in as many shield extenders and/or invuln fields as you can fit. Your objective is to simply survive until you can align and warp out (this is, of course, assuming that you've jammed your lows full of stabs, which is simply common sense); the lock times on industrial ships coupled with the aggro timer for gate-jumping makes the entire ewar approach a rather flawed concept.

Here's an afk through high sec empire setup I sometimes use when moving T2 or expensive stuff
high -Whatever floats your boat
Med 3 x T2 med extender 1 x T2 passive Kin resist 1 x T2 passive EM resist 1 x T2 passive thermal resist
Low 3 x best named expanders you can get your hands on
Gives about 3.5 k hardened shields with average resists, its no T2 afk hauler but it will do in a pinch.

Edited by: Trudy McTrilliham on 14/07/2006 01:12:15 I've alos used a Badger Mk II as bait. Have several friends sitting next door or SS and pounce on target when the engage the Badger.
Highs: what ever, some times Smart Bombs or 150 rails.
Mids: Multi specs, Sensor Booster and Cap rechargers. Also sheild extenders or Invulnerability fields if you can fit them.
Lows: nano fiber (i'm against WCS but use em if you must)
The idea is to sucker someone into a fight then jam them long enough for your friends to gank em. Works well but also lose badgers from time to time. Its a good way to break the boredom of hauling.
Hauling through questionable systems:
When I'm hauling through hostile systems I use:
Highs: Cloaker, 150 Rails
Mid: AB, and combination of med and small sheild extenders
Low: Cargo expanders/ nano fiber as amount of cargo requires
I always run with a scout while using this setup. At first sign of trouble I warp to a SS or object, cloak and move in a random directon until treat is gone.
Hope this helps.

Did you know that ecm jamming lets you cloak your ship, even if you are locked. As long as whoever is locking you is jammer, you can cloak. This helps that setup make a little more sense. And its a little bit of bull**** that someone said you can't cloak before someone insta locks you. Doesent anyone around here pilot a stealth bomber? As soon as you jump thru a gate you activate the cloak, you will only show up for a split second on someones overview, not even enough time to click on you, nevermind getting a lock. Then you align, have both your hands ready, quickly decloak and hit the warp button, theres no chance of being jammed when doing it this way. I can move thru 0.0 in any ship like this, as long as i have a cloak, and im smart about it, theres no getting ganked at all. Unless you run into a warp bubble your preaty much safe.

christ look a badger isnt built to last its built to get ganked by ppl like me ok? even if you fit a load of ecm (fof missles not a must for pvp anymore????) or even loads of sheild extenders ill still tear you apart i do however agree with the cloak .............. never thought of it myself for some reason can see that fitting working the best way to do it is just all cargo extenders that way you dont lose any more isk then is needed

hi
following setup i use at combination with my mining barge...
high: small tractor beam salvager
med: medium shield booster II medium shield extender II (x3) shield resistance amplifiers II (x2)
low slots at high security: expanded cargohold II (x3)
low slots at low security: 'halcyon' core equalizer I (x2) expanded cargohold II
***
all things i transport have to be in a secure container ! if i get blow up the container will stay and no one can take the loot in it =O
***
some one tested the rig slots at haulers ? what is the best rig-fitting for low sec ?
***
@Miner Ed
if you can fit a gun on any ship ... you can fit a mining laser at same slot but with a hauler there is no way to keep the npc's off you and the first npc-invasion on a mining spot will get you into problems
