In not too long, i'm moving into lvl 3 missions (finally) and being able to fly both caldari and gallente ships amkes me what what BC you would prefer... I like the resistence and fittings of the ferox, but the brutix has more drone space and that 7.5% bonus to repper is also evil
Has any1 flown both in lvl 3 missions? which do you prefer, also post setups if you like, but i think i can figure one out on my own

ferox with missiles seems to be the popular choice for walking most level 3 missions as they never miss.

For PvE: Ferox Extra Resistences for shield, very good shield tank, very versatile with used weapons (gun-launcher mix).

I'll third that. Used to own a brutix, now own a ferox. Brutix couldnt compare to ferox for lvl3s
check out the many passive tank setups for ferox on the boards, they will get you through any lvl3 easily, and can do some lvl4's with good skills.

Must be the ferox i'm getting then... it also looks more flexible and have a better cpu/grid output.

On the other hand a Brutix is 10 times more cooler then a Ferox. IMO Guns 4tw...

Using heavy missile launchers as primary weapon on such a great gunboat like the Ferox is a shame.
Go with 5x 250mm Railguns and damage+tracking mods in the lows. Needs much more skills, but the Ferox is not a ship for a low skill character imo.
No more discussion about low dps on a Ferox, use the optimal range bonus for medium hybrids, let the shield resistances work for you and forget about the pathetic performance of heavies on this ship and you eat any cruiser alive. Not hacs of course!

Edited by: Braenca on 06/04/2006 11:25:20 The ferox can easily be used by a low skill character with heavy missile launchers, lots of active hardeners/tanking modules and a mix of BCUs and PDSs in the low slots(If you get bored on that long stretch to the gate on stage 3 of a Guristas extravaganza, you could even fit an AB!!!)
Use it to run missions while you build your missile, and tanking skills ready for that Raven.
then you can build up your gunnery skills and go back to the ferox as a gunship, because that's what it was really designed for and it'll keep Reecor happy, even though hardly anyone uses it that way

While my gunnery skills is superior to my missile skills(only trained to the prereqs) i think i'm gonna go with a ferox with missiles... it's a much easier fit and my fitting skills still leave pretty gimped in the fitting department :S

Missile launchers take 150 powergrid less per slot. That means only 500 grid used on launchers.
With skills, you can have 1250 grid + PDS'
Makes for an *insane* tank.

Guns work better than missiles for lvl 3s on a Ferox I can say from experience.
Once you have enough fitting type skills to fit a good tank with either you find that 5 250s clears the tough lvl 3s faster than 5 heavy missiles.
You do need decent drone skills though to kill any frigs that move in to close.
Wherever you went - here you are.

Hehe, all I want is to make the op happy, and, right, if pg is tight on your ship, you should go with heavies.
But if you feel that you need too long for killing the rats, try 200mm railguns, they need 180 MW, have better tracking than the 250mm and still deliver a good punch.
And its true that you can build up a superstrong tank with mostly heavy missile launchers fittet, but mostly I am happy with killing speed > tanking. Less rats left after 30 secs -> less need for a bs like tank. Just my 2 isks.

Running guns as opposed to missles will definitely need some skill but when the rats get close to you, you'll barely hit anything with the 250's.
Right now I use 5 heavies and 2 250 rails.
Make sure that you built the ship to tank damage before you load in your weapons of choice. I'd rather be able to stay in a mish and take the damage than to have to keep warping up.

couldn't agree more, have been looking around the forums and i've heard you can press the ferox passively tank 70 hp/sec. However from what i've tested i can't get it above 50 hp/sec with maxed skills and T2 equipment.
is there something i'm missing?

Is there any good guns & passive tanking setup for Ferox? I've seen many passive & missiles setups and some guns & active shield tanking ones - but not the combo Ferox seems to be ment for. (On QuickFit the constant problem is lack of powergrid). |

I use the Ferox to help a friend of mine, who owns a Brutix. It was very rare that he would be able to get into blaster range before my railguns absolutely ripped up the enemies. And even when I had to acivate my t2 large shield booster, the resistance bonus + 1 tech 2 invul field made me feel very safe against the npcs. Of course, for PvP a Brutix would get ahold of me and chew me to bits.
