If you have 7 lasers going on your brutix, it's better than the mining cruisers with maxed skills. They have a maximum amount of equivilant to 6 lasers, wheras you have 1 more. Also, the brutix is probably the 3rd best miner ingame, only behind the apoc and the covetor (excluding t2 barges) ---------------------------

From what I have read I thought the Dominix was one of the best miners. I have not tested any fittings but it looks like you could fit 6 mining lasers and some mining upgrades. And with only 425 CPU and 1150 powergrid would the Brutix not run out of something if it was running 7 lasers?

I was running some tests on the quickfit.
Basically you can fit 6 miner II on a brutix, with two cpu upgrades you can fit another one, that leave low slots for 3 cargo expanders (believe me you are going to need me or your lasers are going to fill your cargo in 1 run and the extra ore is going to be wasted). Also you need to fit an AB just to move fast and some other things on the mids.
Mining upgrades, hmmmmmm, I dont know...

Put your miners on a cycle of XXX seconds between each miner ( I think that makes sense )

Okay, been playing around with the Quickfit and found out some interesting stuff. I really need to play with it more. The Dominix can fit 6 Mining Lasers, Scanner, AB, 3 Mining Laser Upgrades, and 3 Co-Processors. This gives enough CPU to run everything and has a 13.25 capacitor recharge rate compared to a 9.55 needed. So lots of headroom. Total Ore mined 574.8
The Brutix can fit 7 Mining Lasers, Scanner, AB, 3 Co-Porcessors, and 2 Cargo Expanders. No Mining Laser Upgrades. Capacitor is the problem. 10.81 capacitor recharge rate compared to a 10.975 needed. No headroom at all. Total Ore mined 579.6
So the Brutix will mine more that the Dominix but requires a lot of skill to run well.

I mine in a Megathron, only thing i use it for. high sec mining, 7 Modulated Deep Core Miner II, 4 mining upgrades and 3 Co-Processor IIs. no med slots or a launcher point, except for one parallel link recharger (not needed but i hate seeing empty slots) also have a mwd and an ab fitted, but offlined. with skills and all that fun stuff, ive got about 1.3 cpu left, very tight setup but it outmines a retriever very very easily, but a real pain to skill high enough to use all the stuff, especially spending one day a week in it. brutix is a great miner, but the megathron may be a little better, more space for drones, as well as better CPU to fit whatever else you want on it. The Dominix is still the Lowsec mining king though ^^

Brutix still looks to be the best bang-for-the-buck for a safe space miner. Mega is 94 mill compared to 20 mil for the Brutix.
I bought a Brute and will find out later tonight whether it was a mistake or not. hehe

You are forgetting about the Domi's drones, they add quite a lot of minerals to the grand total. Also if you ever think about traveling to anywhere more dangerous to mine, the drones are more than adequate to protect you from rats.

QFT
The Domi is more expensive but can tank a lot better and can carry enough drones for a varied supply. The Domi's drones make it possible to mine in .5 with no worries.

Wrong. Yes, they let you defend, but in terms of sheer mining, it looses a mining laser. And its drones dont add any more than a brutix's anymore, it lost its 15 drones down to only 5, as it no longer has the +1 drone or bonus's to mining drone effectiveness. Touche! ---------------------------

So if you fit all your hi slots with miner 2's what do you use for rat protection? Drones?
How about in lo sec space? Is a Brutix able to repell rats in lo sec space and still mine effectively.

If you can't use mining crystals go for miner 2.
(minmatar cruiser lvl 5 and you get wield of 6 miners.)

I do that with my alt so i dont have to babysit him. just dump youre ore and come back for it in a hauler.
assuming of course youre not around a bunch of ore theives. lol
But im no pro miner, just giving my alt something to do while training up his indusrtial skills.. Clicky: Eve Most Wanted List

With Electronics V, Electronics upgrades IV , Mining IV, Astrogeology IV and Mining upgrades IV, I can fit 8 miner IIs and and 3 mining laser upgrades (with 4x CPU upgrade II). This gives each laser about 114 ore units for a total of about 800 ore units per cycle. With 5x mining drones (and high drone skills), I break 950 ore units every 60 seconds. That's better than some covetors.

Do it right. Get yourself a COVETOR with mining upgrades and modulated strip miner modules. Sure, it takes awhile to train up for it, but it's worth the wait.

Edited by: Andrue on 15/05/2006 20:32:36 Excluding barges I'd say Apoc.
My two chars each have a mining Apoc with 8 Miner IIs and two Mining Laser Upgrades. Pulls in something like 115m3 per laser when they are ganged. I can fill a can in half an hour. Not a patch on a Covetor but I'd like to see someone solo mine with two covetors in a .3
If I got rid of the shield extenders I could probably stretch them to 3 mining upgrades but WTH - the shield extension means I can usually keep a pet rat orbitting while I mine. Better the devil you know and all that :) -- (Battle hardened miner)

Edited by: P Tang on 24/06/2006 13:04:22 well... I understand why for low sec areas, but in the end I think it just comes down to mining brages are best of the crop. yes your ship has 8 miner 2's but my retiver with 2 modulated spirt miners (miner 5 and the other plus mining barge lvl 4) gets around 2000 orce every 160 sec. which is just about the same as your ship. but it didn't cost me 75mil or more. Plus when I am able to use the next mining barge I'll suppase whatever you could ever do with a BC with a cargo hold of 4000.
all this doesn't makes sence, if your going to mine in dangous areas, empire, where big rats are like half, .2, then bring along a bc friend. simple, the best mining ship is one with a buddy. so make a simple pact with a friend. and while they aren't on just mine somewhere.4 and up.

Osprey with high mining a cruiser skills is almost as good as the midrange barge. pretty much its the best non barge miner.

In terms of ore pulled, the Dominix can mine as much as an Osprey with Cruiser 5, the Brutix, Megathron and Armageddon have 1 more mining laser, and the Apocalypse 2 more lasers ... and with less training time too (cruiser from 4 to 5 takes more time than frigate 1 to 4 + cruiser 1 to 4 + BS 1 to 3 ...).
And then, all those Gallente and Amarr ships have a better tank than the Osprey ... but I won't deny that the Osprey is a fine mining ship, just not the best there is (and since this thread said non-barge, I won't delve on those ...).
EDIT : with my mining Apoc, 8 Modulated Deep Core Miner IIs, Tech 2 crystals, 2 Mining Upgrades, and while in a gang (Mining Foreman 4, +8%), I pull something like 1100m¦ of ore per minute (calculated, because those miners have a 3 minutes cycle) ... I have to empty my cargohold every 25 seconds or so, to avoid overflowing ...
