Hunt npcs? ;) Same risks on belts there than in 0.1-0.4 space anyway --- On the main subject, I wonder why am I even posting here. I am a carebear and npc hunter myself, yet I don't use stabs. Why? Because they make my ship so much more inefficient. I prefer warping to and between so called safespots. In other words, avoiding combat, rather than escaping from it.
Space is wild place in EVE. There are risks involved. Why would anyone fit a ship meant for combat with sissy escape-things. Warp stabs in my opinion are perfectly suitable for covert operations, smuggling, blockade running and such... if you can catch my point, it is unfortunately bit towards this "roleplaying" stuff and in no way related to 'game balance' or such. Of course that is why EVE is such a wonderful game - you can fit your hauler ship to be (although very inefficient with single gun) all-out combat ship, or your state-of-art battleship to become a blockade running hauler (apoc with 7 stabs, blehh).
So there's nothing wrong in stabs... overall I am somehow disappointed in the warp scrambling system in EVE. Good thing there's at least some counter measures to the unbelievably strong and holy warp scrambler (which eats precious midslots in every damn pvp fit, cries).
(In my imagination I think space as unbelievably big place, which should, seriously, be pretty damn easy to hide in, especially considering we have warp tech and whatnot to cover huuuuge distances almost instantly and so forth - of course getting caught in gatecamp should be quite deadly, like it is. I am not a big fan of warp bubbles - to me it looks just like a bad excuse to counter instas (seriously, if they allow instas, why not 0km warp... would help their database problems as well); IMO a small, agile ship should be able to get away from a gatecamp if they would be arriving from the gate being camped. Any ship arriving to the gate, however, should first warp at 15km, notice gamp, and try to escape (more probably than not too late) when the campers would tackle him and ransom or kill or whatnot. Anyway this all is offtopic and just generic rant about insta-bookmarks and 0/15km warp and my opinion that ships warping inside a starbase should 1) blow up 2) cause tremendous damage to the starbase itself... and as such this all is in parenthesis ;)
What makes me laugh, though, are these avid pvprs who regularly wield stabs. Why the heck... I mean if they really can't stand losing a ship (or, those extra precious implants) why fly it -into combat- in the first place? Some people we have here, geez... though I suppose stabs can work as quite effective guerilla tactic when you have limited resources to continue an all-out war. Hit and run tactics and so forth... oh well.
