At one point in time, my aim in EVE was to become the best Megathron piloting mission runner on the face of the galaxy.
So I trained for T2 guns to get me started, thinking that I would eventually spend my hard earned ISK getting Shadow Serpentis 425mm and 350mm Railguns, and handing out the beatings almost as fast as Hayden Christensen ruins Star Wars movies...
...boy was I wrong. But only about dealing out beatings, the movies are still crap.
Compare the following:
Dread Guristas Cruise Missile Launcher: Rate of Fire: 15.4 seconds Fittings: 1125 PG / 66 CPU
Cruise Missile Launcher II: Rate of Fire: 17.6 seconds, factoring in Cruise Missile Spec at V: 15.84 seconds. Fittings : 1313 PG / 66 CPU
So you see here, even with maxing out your cruise spec, you still do more damage with a Dread Guristas Cruise Missile Launcher, as you would expect from a module costing significantly more, and being significantly rarer than it's T2 counterpart.
So with this in mind, let us take a look at the Railguns!
350mm Railgun II: Damage Modifier: 2.4x, Factoring in Large Railgun Spec V: 2.64x Rate of Fire: 7.31 seconds. Optimal Range: 43km Fitting: 1,969 PG / 66 CPU
Dread Guristas 350mm Railgun: Damage Modifier: 2.4x Rate of Fire: 7.31 seconds. Optimal Range: 46km Fitting: 1,688 PG / 66 CPU
Shadow Serpentis 350mm Railgun: Damage Modifier: 2.5x Rate of Fire: 7.31 seconds. Optimal Range: 36km(!!) Fitting: 1,875 PG / 66 CPU
So by looking at this, we can see that the Faction railguns are vastly underpowered when it comes to T2 comparisons. The Dread Railgun has 3km more range and a lot lower fitting, for less damage (a nice option if you want to squeeze more/larger modules onto your ship).
However, the Shadow Serpentis Railgun has vastly reduced range (7km), almost the same fitting as T2, and yet only 0.1x more damage mod. You can get more damage from a T2 Railgun by just having Railgun Spec at III, and having spec at II means you have 0.004 less damage mod.
So ask yourself, in light of this, is it justified that turret users (yes, laser users suffer the same) are at a disadvantage in terms of Faction gear when compared to missile users? After all, we pay the same ISK for a similarly rare module, only to be worse off than when we were using T2?
Tuxford, what's the deelio?
