This sounds like it has a lot of potential. Imagine a Gallente fleet entering Jita and taking no survivors. Imagine all the afk newbs sitting outside the gates, or the newbs heading to the gate and watching NPC Police get blown to bits by dreds and battleships. Imagine dozens of Dominixes deploy Tech2 drones and whip the State War Academy clean.
Sounds like a lot of fun, no?

I'm sick to death of seeing Miner Is from Level III/IV missions. I don't think I could cope with them from faction wars as well. ______________________

Imagine all the fun for producers and traders normally doing business in and needing stuff from multiple regions.
Imagine all the fun in multiregion homed corps having pilots losing access to half the empire and their corp assets.
Imagine all the mission runners fun with the last unannounced faction standing changes killing off month and years of raising and balancing their empire standings within a few days.
Imagine the loss of the corps' standing with some factions when some pilots are forced out of the important mission business because they need the access to neighbouring regions.
Imagine the fun of losing access to your long lasting R&D agents. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

I seriously hope faction wars are strictly a PvP-with-sides thing. If they're PvE how would they be any more than glorified missions?

carebear happy days are over for you, there is war and you have to pick a side.
better yet, ccp should implement a thing where if you dont pick a side , you become killable by everyone.

It sounds like there'll be conflict constellations that will be fought over, much like WoW instanced PvP.
So you empire carebears will be safe from such things as 'risk'. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever

Ahem, cough, cough, I shall elaborate on what happens in the future. Since I am sure CCP are not dumb and will not subject itself to a murderous whinage.
Ok, remember the interminable Gallente elections, I mean Jesus û we are still waiting to hear whets up. Anyway, as with Gallente Elections and many other Race specific events, CCP will most likely introduces a way where a corporation, as an independent unit will be able to enter on the side of a particular Empire.
As such those corporations will be in effective Faction war against each other and the respective navies. Also, for the people who prefer NPC corporations, and my goodness there are way too may, some of them stay there for years! Anyway, for them, who wish to fight, CCP will introduce, most likely, another NPC Entity, like a noob corp. but one able to fight on behalf of Empire and where they would be able to engage in PVP with warring/affiliated factions and Empires.
So all the whiners who are worried about loosing their NPC agents and Indies and R&D agents, and whatever the hell else, chill. CCP has your back I am sure, specifically to prevent screaming, yelling and flaming, which will assuredly ensue, should CCP introduce an all out and our gankfest based solely on Race.
Anyway, this is my prediction on how it will work.

Perhaps faction warfare should be the PvP alternative to mission running: when you sign up you get a special type of bounty on your head and the ability to collect that from other faction warriors. The bounty might be financial or a form of loyalty point that could be traded for a Navy Megathron. The latter would make some sense from a RP perspective.
Making it invulnerable to the sort of abuse the plagues the current bounty system is essential...

I hope this is one of the times when you do not agree with what you are saying.
I am already set to fold up my corp and re-join the State War Academy. No more senseless war decs on my carebear ass. The Faction warfare thing would take the "open ended" quality right out of the game.
This just happened to Star Wars Galaxies and the game is about to fold up for good. The devs implemented multiple "upgrades" that forced out crafters, traders, musicians, and all the other various Fluff Classes. The game is now extinct.

Edited by: Gonada on 08/04/2006 18:49:26 actually I totally agree with what I am saying.
for years, there has been a gradual buildup of hostilities between the 4 races, or 2 powerblocks(caldari/amarr, gallent, minimatar).
anyone who has the smarts to read up probobly would have started to get positve faction with the races they still want to continue doing buisness, ect by now, I mean , heck its been least 6 months since the faction wars have been confirmed to be in with kali.
it isnt hard to raise faction either, i could see anyone interested in trading, mining , any non-violent persuits doing this very easily, I myself took a month approx to raise caldari / mini/ gallent /amarr factions in order to be able to choose whatever side i want to fight for, and if I dont want to participate, to have enough faction to be able to cross all borders.
why cant you?
ps. until the actual parameters of faction wars is confirmed as well its kinda hit or miss as far as what it really entails.

I agree, untill we are actually see what the settings and requierments for the Kali/Faction Warfare are like, all we can do is speculate on the matter.
However, I doubt very much that CCP will allow a unilateral slaughter of an opposing facting en masse. Most likeley it will be specific constelations, as mentioned before, and will require one to regiter as a combatant.
Although, turning Empire into a complete war-zone does have an appeal, it will not happend. The forums will run red with blood and whinage if that was to occur.

And by the way, the devs said in las vegas that the factional warfare will be opt in only, so unfortunately no gank parties for you...

For logistical and tactical reasons I have a hard time imagining the Federation going for Jita, the caldari border zone on the other hand.
Hopefully though this factional warfare will be megacorporations against eachother to begin with, or else CCP have sold the shipt down river too fast once more, as they did handing the Serpentis away like a 12 year old bride to whatever riff raff occuppy their territory now.
Remind me about The Maze.
I'm Danton Marcellus and I approve of this message. |
