Originally by: BlackDragonShadow I'm currently usinga Caldari Battlecrusier as a passive tank for level 3 missions and it's freaking awesome and I wouldn't trade it for anything. The help that I need is that I find it very difficut to kill frigs in this thing. I have 5 maltku heavy missile launchers, 1 125mm gun, and a tracor beam for my high slots. I can kill frigs it just takes forever and it takes like 100 missiles to kill one that's armor tanking. I'm missile speced and I don't want to lose the fire power I have over crusiers. What should I do to take them out faster?
Try drones

I have them and use them but they don't seem like they do a lot of good. What type of drones should I use? Also would one assult missile launcher be good?

1) make sure you're using the right damage type for the job. 2) webber and 2x 150mm guns will kill frigs. 3) drones with a few skills will kill frigs. 4) heavy missiles with better than crappy skills will kill frigs quickly.

As far as 2 goes would a webber or target painter work better?
What type of drones for a ferox? 5 light, 2 mid and one light, or one heavy?
And for the last one what constitues as better than crappy missile skills? I have a bunch of level 3 missile skills, and some four on missile launcher op and target navaigation prediction. What else do I need?

For handeling frigs easier, i would get your drone skills up. I know that sucks, i am Caldari missiles specilized also over 7M in missiles, and drones do feel like an uber waste because right now only my raven can use drones. (no bays in any of my other ships). but if you want to deal with those pesky frigs droes are the way to do it.
The missile skill that reduces the explosion radius of your missiles is the one you want to get up, so if its still at 2 or 3 get it to 4 right away (off hand i cant think of its name) i am currently training that to level 5 because it is so damn usefull.

You're talking about Target navagation and yeah I'll have that at level 4 by tonight (it's currently in training). Any special drone skills I should go for?

Actually, there is target nav prediction, which decreases the affect of the opposing ship's speed, and guided missile prescision, which decreases the effect of the target's signature radius on damage.
Having both of these maxed is a MUST for engaging frigates with heavies. |

Train for a Harpy... LvL 3 missions done easily :) Only bad thing about it is that your cargo hold sucks so you cant pick up much loot without warping out :/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Whenever there is any doubt, there is no doubt. I've been having the same problem in my Ferox on lvl 3 missions. The cruisers go down fast and most frigates too, but some of them just take forever to kill.
I only have around 600K skill points though.
My two mediums scout drones doesn't exactly make short work of the hard frigates. My high slot setup looks alot like yours except that I fitted a medium Nos because my cap sucks with hardly any skill. My tactic for taking out the enemy frigs so far has been to pound them with heavy missiles for 5 minutes.
I've been using a target painter, but maybe a webber would be better to kill the frigs?
Anyone have a solution that doesn't involve waiting for weeks while I train skills? I'm currently getting my Missile operation up to 5 so I can use cruiser missiles for when I get my Raven in about a week.
Also, what is your setup for passive tank? I active tank (or so I think, I'm new ) and I sometimes have to warp out and come back to finish them off. It's really cutting into my killin' time.

Edited by: Hickock on 09/04/2006 09:41:58 Edited by: Hickock on 09/04/2006 09:37:19 I use a Ferrox level 3s (extravaganza bonus section excepted)and complete comfortably.
Skills: target nav, guided missile precision 3/4 a must.
BCU - named or T2 for preference,
Drones - all lights, currently working up skills.
in turrets x2 125 Named
tactically I usually leave the frigates (especially interceptors) till last and get the big hitters first.
for excellent passive tank thread goto sticky about modules and the passive tank link

Passive tank means that you dont use a shield booster. Instead you let the shield recharge on its own. Recharged amount per second = (Total Shield/Shield Recharge Rate).
So if you add 3 large shield extenders, your recharged amount per second will skyrocket with 0 capacitator cost. The usual (semi-passive) setup is 3 large shield extenders and 2 npc specific active hardeners. In the lows you put Shield Power Relays which will give you doubled shield recharge rate as well.
Basicly you will get more than 10000 shield that recharges about 2000 shield per minute on its own. Dont forget you get added resistances as well with the Battlecruiser skill.
Bottom line is that breaking the Ferox passive tank is very difficult for level 3 mission rats. --- "Automatic override. Manual control overridden by autopilot. Please wait for operation to complete. You can override the automatic autopilot override in 28 seconds. Then you can make it wait" |

Ahh yeah! Passive tank for teh win.
That worked out pretty good. Some of the lvl 3 missions can still hurt my shields good, but there's so much of it now that I can easily kill enough of them to make it go up before they get to my armor. Thanks.
I took care of the little frig bastards too. Switched one of my heavy launchers for an Arbalest Assault launcher. Slightly less effective against cruisers now, but I was pwning them anyway.
Only 60 mill to go for my Raven. 60 mill in 5 days, doing lv 3 missions. Oohh, gonna be hard. Better get some coffee.
