Hi everybody. It has been quite a ride since October 18th when I released the Jumpplanner. To me it feels like the Jumpplanner is one of EVE's unspoken secrets; it doesn't get much attention on the forums, but in the meantime it is used a lot. Last Januari I got pretty excited when it passed the 15.000 planned routes total since that date and it has been gettting more and more ever since. Last month, March 2006, the jumpplanner served 10.000 (!) routes . When you concider that only very few people can actually fly the capital ships this number is insane.
10K routes in a month is reason for a party so I planned a new release, but I could use some help testing and input from people who fly the capital ships regulary. If your interested in helping out you might want to read this page.
Do you use the Jumpplanner? I would love to hear from you - suggestions/annoiances/everything is welcome

P.S. With thanks to Shard here is a small story about the history of the jumptools ---- ICSC Jumpplanner tool - Routeplanner for all jumpcapable ships! |

Congrats on the record :)
Any chance we could set different jump preferences in future? Would be nice if you could choose between the fuel economic route (minimal lightyears) or the convenient route for your cyno guy.
Keep up the good work.

Thnx guys.
Right now the jumpplanner favors the least amount of jumps because IMHO every jumps brings a lot of work; flying over the cynos guy who will be stuck for 10 minutes and uses fuel, having your cap recharge after jumping ect ect.
But a fuel economy mode might be an option if more people indicate they would like to see this. ---- ICSC Jumpplanner tool - Routeplanner for all jumpcapable ships! |

I wouldn't mind if the map button in the neocom would open up the jumpplanner in the IGB if your in a ship with jumpdrives

It's running very happily on a dedicated box that I rent with a couple of other small sites (less then 50 visitors a day). I can easily afford it and I have backups! Besides, I just love EVE and I don't see me quitting any time soon. Thnx for the offer anyway

Sorry, but your feeling is correct. It's a promotion to the ICSC site and to what I feel like a bit of healthy competition in the tool developer area (also see about). But I know your teacher won't be surprised if I tell that around 40% of the code is purely about optimalization and most of the development time went into that. ---- ICSC Jumpplanner tool - Routeplanner for all jumpcapable ships! |

The only thing that I think could change would be an "avoid this region" button or something. Drawing the map is the easy part. Use the X- and Z-values for X and Y. See this old post for more info. ---- ICSC Jumpplanner tool - Routeplanner for all jumpcapable ships! |

This is a great tool and also the only jump planner I use although I think I did happen across another once. I do tend to find myself plotting multiple routes and also using the jumprange tool to try to replot a route manually. Quite often it will select a system you don't want to jump into, or near to, as one of the Cyno points.
That said with a bit of work it offers all you need to get around this problem manually. Given I can't always easily quantify what makes a good or a bad system to have a Cyno in I can understand how this would be a nightmare for you to code it.
Perhaps an option to show all possible routes of X jumps between two points would be in order. Or even just an option to change the logic used so that you can force a few extra routes out of it this way.
Keep up the goodwork this is a fantastic tool.

Adding a way to see stations along a route would be nice, as most people prefer to jump within docking range of a station. Fear the Ibis of doom. |

It's not so much the region which would be a lovely setting / option to use as either preference or to avoid, but systems in my opinion.
When planning a route I often prefer to not go the shortest route - but rather follow one or two specific regions, and avoiding an area around one or two systems in another.
I need more sleep so no idea if this was clear. Let's try again from an example. Origin is station X in region Alpha. Target is Station Y in region Iota. I'd love to plan the route by setting a preference for a jump in region Beta but to avoid having to use the system 101 in region Delta by a deviation of say 3-5 gate jumps (systems around).
Obviously it would be lovely to be able to store routes and to be able to share them, either by means of a login mechanism (in game or out of game doesn't really matter - though I think it should be possible in game to create a route with clickable links for the cyno slave to set autopilot on automatically). This would bring an interesting bit of a trust challenge though, as obviously any self respecting intelligence gathering corporation would kill for a copy of all stored routes per player ... :)

I'm afraid that deciding weather or not a system is a good one to place a cynos guy in will always be manual work; it depends on too many factors and some of them are even dynamic. You probably want to avoid systems with a lot of people in it, lot of kills and with high traffic. And that can even ingame change by the hour. Since I don't have a live feed from Tranquillity with map data that will be impossible . However, providing the possibility of avoiding that area in the tools is one of the attention points.
One direction I will not be going is plotting out X-courses so you can select one of them. What would qualify as a different route? The possibilities are almost endless! And that is exactly the main issue I had with the initial development of the jumpplanner. There are 3260 valid solarsystems that you can jump to. In some places there are over 300 systems in jumprange! I don't want to end up renting a very expensive dual xeon or dual operton box (right now it runs on a single P4 2.4GHz with 512MB RAM).
Boonaki, a station/only option has been shouted out before too. Nothing is set in stone yet, but if I would make something like that IÆll probably make it so that systems without a station get a hefty penalty in the route calculation so that it will absolutely favour systems with stations. The big Q is how far around should it go for stations? That will require a lot of testing and tuning.
Virtuozzo, again nothing is set in stone yet. But when I will make such an option you'll have to possibility to one or more solarsystems, constellations or entire regions. I might be links in the result that you can click on (avoid this system).
For storing results; right now nothing is stored permanently except the default webserver access logs (and I'm the only one with access to those). But do you know the Link to this page at the bottom of the result page? You can bookmark that or post it at your internal forums. IMHO there is no need to rely on me for that with all the possible implications.
On ordering cynos guys around , if you use the rangetool ingame it displays blue "I"'-symbols. When you right click on them you can set your destination. I'll add those to the jumpplanner too so you can copy/paste that url in the ingame chat and shout to somebody should go to jump 1
What I'm working on now is having multiple waypoints and you can use that to steer it in the direction you want. The current beta version will let you set up to 5 waypoints. It can do this too: round trip around the universe. I doubt anybody fly/jump that route, but it's fun to look at .
So what might be in the future (and this is what I want to do) is expand the jumpplaner with: - waypoints - option avoid system/constellation/region options - option to prefer systems with stations
That should make a nice system to plan your optimal route with, but I could use some help testing and balancing it. Right now it is only the waypoints, but for future versions as well. ---- ICSC Jumpplanner tool - Routeplanner for all jumpcapable ships! |

Ah yes, good point. I was aware of it, just didn't realise the actual url itself contained the waypoint information. Cool.

Actually .... it sounds like a bloody nice event just for the heck of it :) Capital ship races ...
Just one thought ... 5 jumps is enough to end up anywhere with good skils, even from where I live it is only two jumps to empire. But considering the possible implementation of sticking to or avoiding locations ... 5 might not be enough, also taking into account jump skills on lower levels then ideal. I remember an op where we had dreads along with carriers *cough* and logistics demanded to use the same jump points. The route in total was 9 jumps.

Nah.. He's one of us and an absolute genius. (Opposite of me, so we need him for compensation) Iam sure that without Elissen ICSC won't be what it is now. Also he gets, in ICSC, whatever he wants (capital sized cookies, exotic dancer, expensive planetary vehicles).
