That was a great fight. You proved a number of points for my students right there.

Edited by: Tuang Pao on 10/04/2006 17:22:45 Rells is good teacher. I took PVP Basic, learned a lot and had a great time. I'm looking forward to the next two courses at PVP University.
New players to EVE face a very steep learning curve and an unforgiving environment. Generally, anything that encourages them and promotes PVP fleet competence gets my vote. Plus, coordinated frigate fleets are great fun to fly in and oh so very cost effective.

Lordless has drawn the attention of some anti-pirate alt blob corp called Kamikaze Fleet Command, but they're not nearly as skilled or co-ordinated as your group. One of my members took out 2 Caracals and 3 frigates of theirs by himself in one battle in a Vexor.
Congratulations on succeeding where those guys have failed! _________________________________________________________

I took the course were the thorax was popped (I even got the kill mail). I also equiped a ECM jammer, and I know I jammed you at least three times.
The bigest thing the course did was teach confidance and the basics of pvp. Alot of the items tought in the class made sence, and in reflection were simple, straight forward, and would be easy to figure out with a clear head.
your first pvp combat will not be with a clear head. This gets the "initial fear" out of the way and shows how to think while under fire.
This class is well worth the money. It is not teaching some mystical magic combat voodoo, but instead is teaching the basics of pvp combat in a controlled envinronment where you can actually focus on paying attention. It teaches how to follow commands of a competant operational leader, how to focus fire, how to adapt to changing envonroments. Shows you the economics of warfare.
mainly it gets your feet wet with a life guard handy. I will be tryign to get my wife to take the course, and i will tag along and add to the blob when she does. After that we will both take frigspec.

Loosing 10 million isk in equipment for destroying 300 million isk in equipment. Next question please.

Somehow I think that would be a short trip. Anyway way too far to fly for students.
@PVP-BASIC Students
Thanks also to both students for taking the time to give us a ringing endorsement.
@Goonfleet:
Man that was lagorama. Do you get many kills when you show up with 100 ships? Id think everyone would dock. At any rate it was pretty impressive. -- Rells

I don't see why anyone would be negative about this, even if they do lose 6 frigates to take out a twinked cruiser. Its not so much the finesse with which you make the kill, but the fun they have while doing it, an idea which many vets seem to have totally forgotten. I feel bad for any new player who joins this game and reads the forum, if all new players actually listened to the preachers proclaiming that newbies can't ever do anything fun in this game because they'll be wtfbbqpwned by vets with 30 million sp... the lifespan of EVE would could be counted on toes and fingers. And seriously, if you only have a month or so experience in the game, and you have a direct part in killing someone who has played for 3 years, its not hard to imagine that you might feel just a little less helpless and a little more enthusiastic about this game.

Edited by: Dal''Xeroth on 10/04/2006 22:19:12 Edited by: Dal''Xeroth on 10/04/2006 22:18:50 Hah, that brings back some hilarious WoW memories.
With the exponential increase in power that the lvl 1-60 advancement represents, I gleefully recall walking out of Splintertree Post with my 60 shadow priest and encountering a small army (about 30) of lower level players... whom I promptly decided to take on, because I instinctively knew I could.
After discovering that they couldn't really get past my cloth armor, and that anyone who struck me was often insta-killed by my shadow shield, the only thing limiting my kill speed then was the 1-second global cooldown on spellcasting. Cast-kill, cast-kill, cast-kill.
After a while I started feeling queasy about the fact that I could actually kill the entire enemy raid if I wanted to and stopped. The funny thing is, I recall specifically reading about how this would be impossible prior to WoW's release...

In this game no one is immune to being killed no matter how long they have played.
Some people flame threads like this because they are elitist. Other people flame threads like this because they dont want the newbies to learn how to fight because it would make their lives of piracy harder. Others that read threads like this and flame dont want the newbs to feel that they can take on bigger players because they went those newbs to be their mining slaves or their disposable tackling boys.
I teach the newbies that there is more in this game for them than being someone elses slave and many people react badly to that.
*shrug* I dont care. Im gonna continue teaching them. -- Rells

you don't need 20m sp, you just need a blob :P
just kidding m8, every1 knows there's power in numbers and i'm sure that every1 that's trolling here has been in on a blob vs small numers battle themselves
regardless of the 'need to catch up' discussion, i think it's great that you are introducing these new players to pvp

I have to say, as a 0.0 virgin before taking the course, this was by far the most fun I've had in Eve since I started last year.
As a previous poster has said, it takes the initial fear out of taking that step into 0.0 and having someone who has been there and done that at the helm lets you concentrate on the basics of PvP rather than the strategic elements.
I'm recommending the course to the rest of my corp and can't wait to get on to the next couple myself.
Many thanks Rells,
Cheers,
Stein.

Dude I am convinced based on the evidence displayed on these forums that attending one of your courses would be a good thing for my new corp.
However having tried to find out more info from your website, I am dismayed by how over complicated it is. I have to register (why?) and when I do I still cant access the info I want! Course content cost's etc... have a serious word with your web designer. A more complicated and unsatifactory customer experience would be hard to find.
Examples. FAQ's = blank page. "Sorry, but only users granted special access can read topics in this forum." is the message I get after registering.

I've got to say this looks like impressive stuff.
I'm going to have to sign up my carebear main at some point who's only experience of lowsec and 0.0 is dying there!
Is it acceptable to come along in an AF for a bit more survivability?

I find it funny that the 2 IRON/ex-IRON guys talked crap about this, saying it's just blob tactics, when IRON is reknown for their frigate blobs.
Anyway, keep it up Rells. Show the newbs the fun side of EvE.

Because you have to pay for the course. Im not a charity.
Originally by: Dumus and when I do I still cant access the info I want! Course content cost's etc... have a serious word with your web designer.
Well the way to enroll is set out in the enrollment forum and over 300 pilots havent found it to be difficult. There is a sticky right at the top of the forum that says how things work. As for the web designer, it is me. This isnt a real life corporation.
The course content and cost and all of that is laid out in the enrollment forum. You merely have to look there.
Originally by: Dumus A more complicated and unsatifactory customer experience would be hard to find.
Try living in germany and gettign service on your phone. Youve seen nothing in life if that is the worst experience you have had.

Once I confirm you paid then I will grant you access. These materials are things Ive spent dozens of hours writing and you arent simply "entitled" to them. -- Rells

No. Start with something expendable. Besides AF in frig fleets is a bit different. Get the hang of it first before risking expensive stuff. -- Rells

Rells one thing you might find interesting:
When new people join GoonFleet they're told first thing after they finish their tutorial to pod jump up to our main office in 0.0 space. The majority of these people die horribly the first time they venture out of our home constellation.
So we have stories of newbies going back to empire for the first time, jumping into say Stacmon with 100 people in local and seeing a half dozen neutrals on the gate and totally flipping out before realising they're all industrials carrying veldspar ;p
If only everyone could join EVE this way
