Edited by: Trav Kaelor on 16/09/2003 04:40:17 Quite a few asteriod belts have become unreachable and unmineable due to the graphics of scordite becoming so huge that ships bounce 4000 km away from the belt.
If you need an example of this go to the 5th asteriod belt in Saila. (I don't remember which planet, but there is only one planet with a 5th asteroid belt.)
I did show-info on this roid and the radius was 1500000km, which is off the grid totally. Oh and to sweeten the effect, no scordite roid can have over 240,000 ore.
Please adjust the way the scordite shows up.
thanks, Trav

Are you sure it was that big? And if some scordites are planet sized, maybe they should be named after the person that first discovers them... ----------------------------- You think Marco Polo said "Damn Mongolians were camping that cave entry into the next valley the entire day, you can't get friggin anywhere in the world with those damn griefer tribes all over the place" ? -Indigo Seqi

ya know the other day I mined a 150k+ scrodite. there were 5 of these monsters. I was 40km away and mining them. not any problems, and the nice thing is all the suprises inside. like 20k omber rocks didn't have any problem flying around them either as 20km was as close as I could get. and as said I could mine them at 40km

Hehe the ones in Saila is the biggest I think, Where mining one from 130km yesterday and we are still in one asteroid then that reach around 130km more out. But np we will stripmine it anyway.

Only problem I have with these huge roids is mining drones - they fly for km`s and km`s greatly reducing their effectivness.

I was mining some 30km-ish scordite roids a while back. I found that my mining drones barely left my side, even though I was apparently 20km away from the roid.

what do you want a pic of? basically if you can get into one of these with out bouncing 4000km+ off you zoom all the way out and your whole screen is whited out by the side of a asteroid. neato pic if you want to see it go to Saila or Motsu

I came across some as well, and tried to mine one with my basic drones, but they went AWOL. They didn't show up as +'s on my screen altho they did show on scan. They disappeared from drone display, so I couldn't recall them either. Oh well, buh-bye drones.
I didn't try to use lasers on the ones that were 40k away, assuming they'd be untargetable - are you saying you >>can<< mine these from 40k out? Freelancer Fly Free, Live Free |

the range is from where the asteroid ends, the number is from the core of the asteroid. So many large roids you can be 20-30k out

I've been working on mining a super-bugged belt, since it is can-***** proof without the right bookmark. To date I have found that only some of the monster roids are *lock-able* with a Thorax's lock distances, and that I can use mining lasers on almost any monster roid that shows up on a 'roid survey scanner IF I can lock it. The roids shows at 52 KM away or whatever, but that's the core of the roids, not the surface and mining lasers seem to measure distance from the surface of the rock. Drones must measure from the core....
I would advise NOT using any drones on these puppies, as advancing beyond the edges of a seriously bugged belt causes you to be throw away at 10KM/s or so, and sadly the same thing can happen to your drones, as it did with 6 of my Harvesters. Oddly, they were awol for 2 days then reappeared yesterday by my safe bookmark, which I promise you they were NOT anywhere near the previous 2 days...
Edit: I'm curious to see if a longer locking distance will make a difference in being able to mine these monsters. I'll be trying with a BS tonight and we shall see. My mineral broker will be so happy :)
Edit: Nope, not even my Dominix could lock these puppies up. Maybe if I trained more levels of long range targetting.....

I think Everlasting Vendetta's Apocs/Miner 2's/Drones 5/Drones Interfacing 5 mining wing could clear up this problem in no time at all.
We'll get Sinister/M0O to haul, of course.

I've noticed this as well. There are a group of 0.9-0.7 sec systems I like to mine, because each has around 10-20 belts.
However, in all but the 1st belt I too can't get near them because of the warp in, bounce back 4,000km problem.
This has gone on long enough and needs to be sorted out - otherwise we'll have entire systems that you can't move inside because of massive scordite roids blocking the gates.

Thanks for suppling the pic.
Josh we are using apocs for this, and if you even try to use your drones you can kiss them good-bye. Unless you want to spend 4 hours hunting them down with a ship scanner.. because they are off the grid ( 300,000 km + )
The only way to get into one of these is to chain about 15 bookmarks bouncing off the roids.

To say it simply, I've found that the mining lasers' range depends on the distance between the surface of the roid and the surface of the ship.
The distance given when you target a roid is from the center of the roid..
So don't be fooled.

Inquisitus,
1st, my ship UI is blackedout coz is a secret

2nd, the 5Mill is still up for grabs - i'll get Trav to post an end time/date
3rd, to post a piccie you need to have it available somewhere on the web, then use the 'insert picture' icon when you post your reply here
Hope that helps, if not ask some more
