I didn't think I was *that* bad, but here I was enjoying a nice saturday of playing eve, with the GF at work, and I completely missed a 250 acre brush fire less then a block from my home, I remember hearing fire trucks but thought nothing of it...
Linkage
Any other shining examples of eve addiction? This fire could have rolled over me and I only would have noticed when my air conditioning couldn't keep up with the heat...

Similar thing happened to me a few years back. We had a fire in our wheelie bin - the fire brigade came and put it out (neighbour notified them) - all that was left was a puddle of melted plastic on the floor. And where was I while all this was going on? Playing Eve at 4am .
But apart from that, a long time ago - real life has to be priority and if you saw my girlfriend, you'd understand why .

:) At first Eve is very consuming - but eventually you will wind down a little and enjoy it the way it was meant to be - some enjoyable casual gaming.
Eve is great and unique in that you can still advance when not playing (training).
Its great.

Heh same. Instead of going "Gah I'm so ****ed off", in some situations I'll go "Gah, Slash me is so star star star starred off" ---------------------------

Edited by: FooB2 on 10/04/2006 23:21:26 Edited by: FooB2 on 10/04/2006 23:17:58 how much does it distract me? i have a story about this which happened to me TODAY. this might give you an idea.
im currently studying Computer & Network Technology @ university in the UK, northmbria. and on this course, out of many modules, two of these modules are Electronics and Visual Basic & Robot Programming, which both have heavy amounts of coursework attached to them, and we were told that it had to be handed in the week before the easter holidays started. now, northumbria university is notorious for taking its holidays and student breaks at completely dfferent times to other universities traditionally takes thiers, usually being later.
so i wake up the saturday gone, thinking "S**T! its good friday this week, so my coursework has to be handed in by thursday". i kill people all saturday and bunk off the work, which i start on sunday. i DRAG on ALL day doing my Electronics work, which is 4 lab scripts and took me all day to do them. literally 14ish hours of solid writing, theorising, photographically-documenting the home-made curcuits i hashed together to "show my working" so to speak. The following day, at 9pm no lessis my Visual Basic lab. so i get up at 6:45 am to begin my travel to uni, dog-tired from the late night of work i did the day before, and arrive there at uni, in class, at 8:55. i sit down and propmtly fall straight asleep. i wake up about 9:45 with my head in my uni-keyboard to find my class completely devoid of people, including a lecturer. i check other classrooms around me which are also empty, i see this as wierd. and it dawns on me.
i forgot to actually confirm the dates of the easter holidays, i just assumed they were a week later than other unis, which started a week ago. so i pull out a lab script assignment from electronics, it has these very words written in HUGE BOLD LETTERS right across the front page, of all 4 every lab scripts.
"THIS LAB AND ALL OTHER LAB COURSEWORK IS TO BE HANDED IN NO LATER THAN 5PM ON THURSDAY THE 6TH OF APRIL"
and to top it off, the VB robot work is a mid-easter hand in date, this thursday, so i couldve completey skipped the electronics work and just did my VB and it wouldve all been over. now.
Me: "BOLLOC*S" God: " ROFL MATE, YOU PLAYED WELL, AND LOST. GG"
i realise this marks me up to intense mockery and jesting but people have come to expect stuff like this from me anyway.

I was going to say, several dinners have been reduced to carbon thanks to eve... but that pales in comparision to that size of fire.

A few weeks ago I said "lol" in a meeting (instead of something nice for "sorry, no way")... luckily noone understood what I meant with that chat abbreviation but my face went a nice shade of purple
And another thing: A few RL friends play Eve too ... we have nearly stopped using our first names and use the Eve names instead ... really got used to be called Silmenel

I say lol quite often, but that doesn't matter, because lol is a real word in dutch . Guess you could translate it to fun(/funny).
