Ok this whine (yes its a whine if you don't like it just die ok?) is about the new patch...
But I bet you can't guess which bit..
So i'll tell you..
Quote: Weapon Upgrades description has been corrected to properly explain that the skill reduces CPU usage of turret damage modification modules.
Its that bit, this skill was first said to reduce cpu needs weapon upgrades, THEN it was altered to reduce cpu of weapons, NOW its altered back to say weapon upgrades. This has annoyed me cos I trained it when I thought it was weapon turrets, now its a useless crap skill and well I'm mildly vexed.
In short, I can deal with bug fixes and description changes, but not 3 times in a row cos tbh its taking the michael.
Who else feels vexed by this?
Stav
PS: Remember if you want to flame this post why not go and drink some bleech instead? Thats a far more productive use of your time. --

I dont know why they would want to change the description cuz on Chaos build 1209 the skill affected only turrets not weapon mods.

As disturbing as it may seem, I agree with Stavros!
This change will needlessly hurt Apocalypse owners, or any ship with poor CPU.

Edited by: Stavros on 16/09/2003 11:18:51 i'm going to ask tomb about it later, but yes it does seem rather strange if you ask me cos there is no note of them actually changing the skills function, so who knows eh?
yeah I agree about the the new stacking changes making it crap, its gonna be confined with the likes of 'sensor upgrades' and that crap skill for those useless ships.. what was it called again? oh right yeah minmattar bship... yeah anyway it'll be like that, nobody will ever train it. --

Not only can they not seem able to make their minds up about the skill, but with the upcoming changes to the way damage mods stack it's going to be even more useless as a skill :(

I'd love to have a skill that reduces weapon CPU needs. Unfortunately, something that you need to fit the upgrades should not reduce the CPU of turrets.
You're right though, changing something 3 times in a row is very confusing O.o

Doh... Just when the CPU was going to be enough with the lev2 battleship boost + co-cpu nerf (TQ w/ photonic: 686cpu, chaos w/ photonic: 707cpu), this happens. Are you sure that it doesn't affect turrets, then?

Yes I'm vexed, yes they nerfed my equipment again and I have a pile of mostly useless skills. Did I do something wrong in a previous life, did I do something wrong in this life?? I must admitt that each patch does give me an enjoyable challenge - rebalancing my Armageddon for a week till it works again after they nerf all the stuff I rely on.....I can just feel "You do wrecking damage of,eh,100 with your nerfed lasers that have dmg mod increase of, well, zero cos we nerfed them to".
Apart from that an honest thumbs up to all the other fixes etc, and a non-sarcastic congrats to all the goodstuff this patch did (praying this little outburst doesn't cost me anything in the next patch)
*cough**splutter*, what I wasn't supposed to drink this bleech, ah shi.....

As of now it's just another skill with wrong desc. It still reduces CPU need for turrets.
Yer right though i almost had a heart attack when i saw that one.... I thought ****!! cpu decrease from my dam mods desnt come close to the cpu i saved when it applied to turrets...hell i am gonna have to use less nerfed dam mods than i had estimated... guess i ll have to use a CPU enhancer.... oh f#$% they uber nerfed those too!

Slightly if not completely off-topic... instead of nerfing all the guns, shieldhardners, stacking and stuff, why not simply up the hull/armor/shield ratings of all ships? This will a) increase combat duration, b) allow carebears to live longer and have a chance of escaping/survival, c) doesnt punish pirats for putting a lot of time into training combat skills (they trained to do damage so they should do damage, imho and I have been on the recieving end back when moo had their amazing weapon mods yes...).
I would just like to know if this a weird thought? Since I have seen it work in a different space simulation called DarkSpace.

That I think is brilliant!
Longer battles (due to stronger hulls and armor and shields) would be beneficial to gameplay, would involve more tactics and would also solve part of the lag-in problem.

ure right stav i dont but then again does anybody else....no as nobody has seen or used them yet.the rare tech 1 weapons are very good as they are so if they are going to better be than them they are maybe just trieing to avoid another whitewash like the early stamped heat sink heavy mod beam and damage mod stacks caused. even you cant deny that situation was very silly

I don't deny that, the stacking changes are a good thing. I was complaining (yes whining GET OVER IT) that with the new changes you are gonna have 2-3 weapon upgrades most and therefore if this skill now does what it says it will save 2-3 cpu at the most, making it a useless skill.

Back on topic: On the other hand, changes to skills already in game should be done very rarely, adjustments should be done to other aspects of the game. Skills are what we use to advance in this and need to be treated like the precious item they are, you can mine more, steal more, produce more, destroy and rebuild, clone etc etc, but your time, you are not getting back.

Edited by: StealthNet on 16/09/2003 12:55:16 afaik, that skill does use to reduce the TURRET cpu needs, not WUs.
and yes, I was about to post about it, but Stavros did it first.
In fact, it's rather easy to prove that, just fit a turret, do a show info and watch the CPU need drop as much as you have the skill trained. BTW, sometimes it bugs out, and you need to relog to make the changes appear. _______________________________________________

Bah...beat me to it. Was about to get annoyed as I finally broke out some time to train WU 4 to get around the upcoming CPU crunch (got a photonic on my ships).
I'm way lost on this one myself but personally I hope they leave it alone.

On Chaos (1209) the Weapon Upgrades skill still reduces Turret CPU requirements (21 tf unmounted, 17.25 mounted, 425mm 'scout' AC), but it does have the new description but doesn't actually work on a F-M3 Inertial Suspensor.
When 1210 goes up on Chaos, someone might just want to actually be so bold as to check to see if this is the case.
I was under the impression it was supposed to work for both turrets and weapons upgrades (Tracking Enhancers and Weapons Mounts). =============================== Deception + Information + Skill |
