Why can't CCP at least put an attractive female in the launcher.
Every time I boot the launcher I get startled when I see this angry dude baring his teeth.
I'd prefer something more soothing when logging in than a chap with rabies.

The reason I posted what I did was because I didn't have the time, nor energy, to outline why this thread is so wrong.
First of all, on your personal level, you want an "attractive female" in the launcher. Let's leave aside all the problems I have with that quote for a second, and remember that this is *not real*. Is it pleasure you want? Or do denigrating pictures of women generally perk up your day?
Second, this game has a ridiculously male-biased playerbase. Yes, it is about spaceships and killing, so that will account for a bias because society's in-built sexism raises boys to play with guns and girls with dollhouses. But putting up random pictures of "attractive females" everywhere isn't exactly going to help address that imbalance. Any women who want to play will just feel like the game is some sick male fantasy, where the first hint of a real woman (not the male 45% who use female avatars) is like a pack of sharks smelling blood.
Third, as a general point, objectifying women like that is just unacceptable. Sexism is utterly wrong on any level, but I imagine you don't care too much about that sort of thing, so here's a powerful video that will give you the wake-up call you seem to so desparately need: http://damn.com/p/this-is-what-women-must-feel-likeeverday-experienced-by-a-man-must-watch/
This reply is still ridiculously incoherent and rushed, little more than a stream of consciousness. I hope you and others see why this thread is so bad now. Give a man a match and you warm him for a day.

I feel that you're blowing what the OP said out of proportion. He simply said a picture of a woman instead of a picture of CCP guard. I dunno why you wouldn't want to stare at CCP Guards face all day, caress i- I digress. But you immediately assumed that he meant a picture of a woman showing some epic side boob, touching her bum and saying "degenerate me you sadistic, sick males. Your power fantasy is soooo big". At least that's what I assume your thinking about with a picture of a female, because I fail to see how an image of a female on the launcher would be degenerating unless it was similar to what I described.
I also, however, feel that any woman who enters a game and complains about there being too many men with female avatars are the kinds of players that wouldn't enjoy the game in the first place. Let's face it, only a relatively small number of people make it past the tutorials and become a long time EVE player, due to the small quirks they have with the game (too slow paced, general gameplay/overlay issues they may have that they can't get over, etc.). Due to this, I somehow can't think that a woman who enters a game and the forefront of her thought is "oh there better not be any male power fantasies in this" is missing the point of the game, and will get caught up with the little issues with the games.
Then I feel like you just had a rant about feminisim for the sake of having a rant. Maybe it was just pent up rage, but the OP here isn't some twisted individual like you're making him out to be. If he decides to not sneak some smooches on CCP Guards face before the game turns on, that's totally his choice. |

I would like a female as well, maybe a girl kneeling on a bed bent over showing her support with the cute asian girl peace sign, or perhaps we can get a bisexual miley cyrus cougar who has an acne problem but wears a lot of makeup and still looks good to be on the launcher. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZOdADD5RNs&feature=youtu.be http://evemouthbreathers.blogspot.com/ https://secure.eveonline.com/trial/?invc=29554516-05f9-4eca-a942-32e1701a6569&action=buddy |

I hear what you're saying, and I concede it's possible I have read a lot into what the OP said. My assumption is based off the fact that he's come on here, made a pretty unhelpful, short OP in GD (nothing new right? ) asking for an "attractive female". You seem to be a reasonable person: is my assumption that unreasonable?
Your point about the male fantasy being secondary to the general barrier to incoming EVE tutorialees is also a fair one. It's true that more people will be turned away because they found it too complicated in one aspect or another, but does that mean we can just use it as an excuse? I'd also have to disagree with your point that a feminist woman is more likely to not make it past the tutorials because they're too "caught up with the little issues" (also any level of misogyny =/= "little"!), but I'm not sure that's what you meant given your post was otherwise reasonable! Maybe I was having a bit of a pent-up rant - I'd also say that's a fair comment.

I don't think I've ever read a less coherent jump of logic. We go from my dissatisfaction with the OP's wanting an "attractive female" (which, as I outlined, I have reasonably or otherwise assumed conforms to the p3 Sun model or thereabouts) to a proposition (from me, apparently!) that women should never be photographed. Right...
As for the virtual point, which might have some merit, I don't think we can make excuses by saying "it's virtual, don't worry!", especially given how that line is increasingly blurred by photoshop etc.
