The current mechanics are crappy, let's review, Small turrets which limit what type of ship you can use to do orbitals, 3 Types of Ammo, each belonging to a specific turret type, Frigates and Destroyers the only viable ship for Orbitals with PVP capabilities.
It's really sad that I see warp core stabilized Dominix's with small turrets doing orbitals.
Solution, a one highslot module, that can change ammo type. Why?
1. Eliminates the need of orbital ammo for medium and large turrets (which would have to be significantly better than small turret strikes)
2. Ship battles in space can escalate better (If I can one shot a destroyer with a Naga what's the point?) if ships that can actually tank like a battlecruiser could be used without sacrificing all of it's PVP capabilities for small turrets.
3. Ammo can be switched out according to the needs of the mercs on the ground, providing better communication between caps and mercs. |

Sure. Something like siege modules for orbitals would be cool. |

A siege-type module could be used to force the ship to remain on the field and defend itself, rather than bolting off. |

Orbital bombardments definitely need fleshing out, and this is the way NOT to do it. DUST 514 Recruit Code - https://dust514.com/recruit/zluCyb/

I was thinking more along the lines of a module similar to a Doomsday device, but instead of shooting ships, it shoots the planet.
For example, you have a ship that has all guns for highslots and one highslot uses the OB Module to shoot the ground, that way the ship can actively still engage targets, and not be limited to a destroyer, which means it's tanking abilities are better than a POS destroyer/
and Markku if you have a better idea I'd love to hear it, in fact if you have a reason to back up your claim to why this would be a bad idea I'd love to hear that also. |
