EVE is all about specilization will that be taken a step futher in Tech 3 ?
give a ship the benfits of some active mods without having to fit it. these mods would all be passive in nature and grant a permanent bonus.
each ship would only get one of these bonuses e.g. Passive targetter, this is prob the best example of a mod that would be great in this instance. Ship which never draws an auto-lock back from a target. e.g. weaker armoured firesupport ships in fleet battle that need to be manually spotted and targetted, for balence a longer lock time would be sutiable.
Armor repair. Ships armor has a recharge rate like shields. good for frig to repair between fights. (no mod currently exist which could increase this recharge rate so not really exploitable)
Perma Micro Warp Drive. 5x (or more) max speed always on (no cap use). to balence lower cap recharge rate, low acceleration rate (1/speed multipler) of normal which is why it dosent require capaitor to use the burst accleration is not there I'd love to see frigs that could do 5-7000m/sec and outrun inties using MWD , however the inty could catch them over short distances and could outmanuver them (turning etc) but would struggle if the T3 frig ever got time to max out its speed.
Deadspace Field. a set area around the ship has same conditions as deadspace, i.e. no MWD (anyone entering using a MWD has mod turned off and cannot be turned back on until ship leaves zone. somthing like 10-30km.
Other fields : which stop shields recharging or lower resistences of other ships entering the space simialr to the idea of nebuale effects on ships, but localised around a single ship with 5, 10, 20km radius etc
You get the idea mods which are noramlly acitve that are fully incorporated into a ship and grant a permanent ability

Aye it was brought up at the dev Q&A in las vegas I belive the concept is post production modification of ships, ie applying a couple of permanent mods that can be applied to a ship, and never removed that alter the ships stats without taking up slots, if thats whats coming i certainly hope we get mods that will increase the number of slots etc, it will certainly lead to a greater variety of ship setups rather than the ammount of cookie cutter setups we're seeing these days.

Tech 2 is a little like that in a way, as you can consider the extra resistances at "in-built" hardeners. Blockade runners having 2 stabs inbuilt is also an example. I'd love to see this idea taken further tho, with more esoteric options.

I personally would love to see engine rooms. Something we could use components in. The only game I have really ever seen this on was LightSpeed from like 1990. But I loved how you could swap parts in different systems for shields, engines, weapons, ect. This would give a whole new area of use for ship components as well boosting demand. Now I'm not saying they should make your ship uber, but they could increase the ships base stats a little with basic components, and having your actual race components would boost a little more, wether it be pg or cpu, maybe a little faster shield or cap recharge. During battle components can take dmg that need replacing there by reducing your ships ability, and who knows if you were relying on that little bit of extra cpu or grid, would be a nasty shock in combat to see a gun go inactive on your part A frigate could probably fit the all the systems on one screen, but a battleship could have a full screen for every section with lots of components to use. Just an idea, but would love to have it.

Ship permanent modification opens up a ton of new gameplay directions, and a ton of new obstacles to overcome. There could be mechanic/engineering/industry skills related to ship modding, and there might be new jobs for ship modders out there.
It would make the marketplace a living hell though, as with all those mods, price comparissons would be next to impossible. How much do you sell/buy a speed modded ship in comparison to a normal version of the ship, or let's say a shield modded ship... hmmm Split Infinity Radio Get Loud, Get Mental http://www.siradio.fm |

I would love if tech 3 ships were highly specialized with built in stuff like that, and not just HAC^2.
One thing I've always wanted to see is a little ship with a jump drive. I don't even know what use it would be with how cyno fields work. I just like the idea.

It looks like a "B" connected to an "E" and has 4 built in WCS.
