I know that nobody suggested it. I was throwing it out there so it could be kicked as what not to do. It's a pretty standard caution.

Edited by: Hakera on 15/04/2006 02:04:16 i think voip is a good idea regardless of use of ts/ventrillo, certaintly no harm in offering it anyway - upto you whether or not you use voip, a lot of people may just simply want to chat on it. being this day and age we dont need restricting to text chat all the time and is a totally seperate issue/need to that of ingame combat. Assuming its protocols come in on a different port from the game traffic and handled by a seperate server to the proxies so server performance is not affected.
Though the point about gang chat is good, though I feel we have a half way solution already with show info dragging, all you might need is a right click option to 'send char info link to gang chat' or call it 'assign primary target for gang' with the understanding in gang that this is their primary target along with unique text colour for gang leader, maybe even throw in an auto-overview update for the target to all gang members. Or a keyboard bind for it though in my experience keyboard binds tend to be left out for macro reasons etc such as the need to press ok rather than hit return etc.

As it stands the in-game GUI's take so much overhead that to simply resize them can cause lag on many systems. I can only imagine how much overhead the in-game VoIP would require. Fix all other excessive overhead issues in the game, and then consider adding features that require more overhead.

I would like to see VOIP in game, but make it so any one within a certain radius can hear you, or so a ship you pick can hear you. Make it sorta like a ingame "hailing" system. Because right now, starting up a convo usually doesnt work because people leave auto reject on to prevent invitation spamming and people never pay attention to local when you want them to.
I wouldnt use an ingame VOIP for fleet ops though. The lag ingame would make hearing commands impossible.
Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 kbs, ty - Cortes It was 24153bytes. |

please give us working and expanded CEO tools - give us a font - give us less bugs. But knowing CCP we will see this VOIP suddenly in the next month or so so folks we now may have a ingamge VIOP system no one can use cause their ISPs will block hte traffic and everyone will keep using TS Because its must easier that and vent

Sound like a good idea on the surface.
As long as the monthly fee doesn't increase to cover the increased bandwidth requirements caused by allowing 20,000 players to talk to each other.
Even if CCP were to integrate it into the client, I would probably stick to TS. --

ehm....any of you complainers actually read further then the headline ? ? ?
CCP: Unlike other MMOGs, the entire EVE player base shares the same server cluster. With Vivox providing the in-game voice services and managing the required infrastructure, there are no resource implications that could impact game server performance. This new feature will be a premium service option for game subscribers and, because of itts tight integration into the game, ease of use, and massive scalability, presents a tremendous improvement over burdening gamers with maintainings their own voice servers with third party applications, as some EVE player corporations and alliances currently do.
