I hear from plenty of players now that they "have 3.2m SP, and 540m ISK in the bank".
Quite simply, how? Since I currently have ~35m SP and 60m ISK accross two characters.

Yeah, been wonering that too... BPOs are not the only key, I imagine, as there ios plenty rich bastardos around
I find, tho that whenever I lose a fully fitted BS, the money for the mods finds its way to ym hands fast, and then the flow stops till I get another one blown up --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

It's not hard to make money if that's your goal.
Just happens to be that making money is mind-numbingly boring. I'd rather be blowing stuff (players) up then chaining belt rats or running missions.
In short: Cry me a river, build a bridge, and get over it.

You aren't alone; I have 14.5m SP, but never seem to have over 40m in my account due to having nearly all PvP setups (no mining or NPCing ships)

I have just over 2 mill SP's and somewhere over 400 mill (plus 20 ships at least, several barges, 5 hoarders, 4 cruisers, 1 BC, etc).
Simply put, mining. I alternate with some missions when i get too bored. I dont PvP (not yet at least), i look at this as building a foundation for what i want to do in the future :)
I think the income "masterplan" goes fairly much like this : "Have a steady income though whichever means you enjoy without losing 20 ships daily in PvP" :p

I suggest doing missions
I have 4.2 mil SP and 800mil in the bank
most of which has been earned in the past month doing level 3 and storyline missions and getting decent implants as rewards

But i used to be a mission wh-0re and got a couple of nice tech2 ammo bpo's a while go.
biggest cash cow, imho is selling characters. Get a character with some nice skills and watch the cash roll in.

lol yep, agreed here that alot of ppl get their money from ebay. Sad but true. I have a little over 1mill SP and have a whopping total of about 3mill isk from mining :) It's loads of fun though so I don't have to be rich I don't guess but man it would be nice.

Gotta agree that being self made is way more rewarding then any ebay influx.
Having a big cash donatation will end up in expensive tastes, and you'll just burn through it looking for more.
Learning curve is there for a reason, too much too fast will just lead to disaster.

I made 1 billion in about a month without licking a single roid. I just did many lvl 3 missions, or rather my drones did (pre rmr domi) with specific agent rewards in mind.
All in empire too

Whats really funny is i didnt even have to do much. just be ensuring my scout drone skill was low (or whatever skill increased drone range) i just parked my domi clear of buildings, aggroed everything in a specific order, launched drones, turned on first med rep and went off for cup of tea.
Then I would come back and keep an eye, turning on the second med rep as needed.
It was boring yes, but i was able to do other things at the same time, so did not hurt the brain too much with endless repetition.

Thats probably because you were chasing faction ships for zillions of LP, whereas i was earning 130mil per 15k lp... and with that i totally give away what i was doing and maybe help someone take a break from mining or raven spammage :p

Well I only have 812k SP but am very near my first 100mil in liquid form (plus 2 cruisers, a hauler, a few frigs, and a load of shuttles dotted around the place) and I've not been focused on money making soley but trying to explore different aspects of the game. The trick to making money is definately tradeing ... no not hauling ... tradeing . Every other way of making money is restricted by simply how many hours you can dedicate to it where as tradeing is the only money making method I know of so far in the game that isn't restricted in this way. Your only cap on how much you can make is your capital and the supply/demand of the various markets you play. You even make money offline this way. When my liquid capital has grown even further I can easily see myself literally buried by my hugiferous piles of wonga
