Part of specialization is your RL skills and knowledge of the game.
If someone plays long enough, they can get lvl 5 in everything that you consider your "specialty" but clicking a skill before they go to bed isnt what makes someone a specialist.
Yes, there are many people who can build ships, but there is only one NAGA loot shop.
But whats the difference between the famous ship builders and joe shmoe with industry 5?
Knowledge of the industry. Public Goodwill/Karma Roleplay/Storyline/Fame Assets - having enough BPO's to outbuild the other guy
So you see, if you want to specialize, theres alot more to it than just clicking the skill to level 5.
I'm a 1.5 month character, and my plans are to specialize in Stealth and EW.
This game is already like 4 years old, there are people that have been doing Electronic Warfare before I even HEARD of the game.
So what am I supposed to do, just uninstall and go play something else?
I think you need to step back and understand.
Life is short.
These are vast chunks of time we're talking about.
"Only" 2 months???
ONLY???
And I doubt you can really find ANY specialty that "only" takes 2 months.
Maybe you spend 2 months specializing in Large Autocannons, but what about all the other related skills?
You would probably spend another 6 months maxing out gunnery skills, trajectory analysis, sharpshooting, and so forth.
And another 2 months maxing out Nav skills, nav 5, afterburner5, evasive 5, and so forth.
And another 2 months maxing out the ship skill.
Minmatar BS 5, Spaceship command 5.
So what do you have so far, to specialize as a heavy Autocannon fighter?
An entire year of your life.
And thats not including the KNOWLEDGE you need to be a GOOD fighter, the experience, the money that you spend on equipment, and replacement ships, clones.
When you come right down to it, specializing in anything in this game is ALOT of work, and takes alot of time.
The benefits? %5 doesn't seem like alot, but %5 extra over 5-10 relevant skills adds up.
%5 more shield, %5 more armor, %5 more structure, %5 more speed, %5 better accuracy, %5 more damage, etc etc, you add all that up it comes to a pretty huge chunk.
The fact that another player diversified into your specialty just shows how much of an advantage veterans have over noobs in this game.
Oh man, this topic just makes me feel useless.
Makes me feel like I got no hope of ever being able to compete with anybody, since ppl already got level 5 of anything I might hope to specialize in.
