I believe its the moment when you can no longer bare to care. You either unsub or awox the crap out of the person who was, a moment ago, your best space buddy and steal his stuff. |

I stopped being a care bear when my first target (I killed his heron with my magnate) asked me: "Why did you kill me?!? We're both explorers!!!" and the only answer I could think of was: "Ehhhhhmmmmm....... Why not?" |

Or at least fit the orca in a way that's not worth your time or effort. License is more reliable though. :) |

It's Eve, everyone needs to be able to fight back, everyone can fight back. Some may not be able to do so effectively, but you can't blame that on the person who attacked them. |

My first suicide gank the guy asked my why I killed him, "Because you were the first one who didn't warp off." I knew ganking in a brutix was a foolish waste of money, but wanted a guaranteed kill. How was I supposed to know he was flying a 100+ million isk retriever with storyline mining upgrades and faction drones?
I really need to see if he's still mining... maybe he has a new ship? |

Honest question, when is a carebear no longer a carebear?
Is carebearing character specific or the person? I.E. a guy with a pure indy toon who also has a separate pure pvp toon, is he still a carebear? Or does he have one character that's a carebear and one that is
Discuss. After he swears a vow of poverty and then indentures his soul to some other player or players - then he's no longer a carebear..... -á-á- remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not-á "afk" cloaking-á-

I disagree with the notion that a player that avoids combat is not a pvper. "Carebear" is repeatedly redefined by winners and is used as an excuse to demonize and laugh at the losers. Remember that everything in eve is pvpable.. You can't tell if a person is a pvper or not based on whether they avoid combat. -á-á- remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not-á "afk" cloaking-á-

I dont think thats accurate at all. The term "carebear" is not used in any type of derogatory fashion. It is a well known descriptive term used eve-wide for the act of pve-only activities.
And yes... if someone avoids combat to the best of their ability... I think its a safe bet they are not a "pvper".

Plus he's competition, plain and simple. Keep up the good work, we'll make some markets relevant again if we keep at it. |

You're no longer a carebear when you willingly put a ship at risk, lose it, then go back for more.
Doesn't need to be 'classical' pvp. For example mining or missioning in lowsec, or stealing in highsec, qualify imo. |

True carebears, the kind that other carebears even hate are the ones who want the whole game to be friendly to play in and be nice and supportive. So no scamming, no non-consensual PVP, no stealing, etc and will declare that EVE is losing players because of these or that they are not going to sub their accounts anymore till they change, etc. Or at least have hi-sec made into that image.
By all means by most definitions I qualify as a carebear by most peoples standards in that I don't actively seek out PVP, simple reason is I play casually and can't sub my account as easily with kill rights on me when I want to haul goods in hi-sec to pay for my account. And quite frankly my internet connection is crap enough I probably lose my ship more times from a bad internet connection than from an actual fight. I was just disconnected twice on a 20 jump flight to jita for example. So in the meantime I will be training my character for combat so the day I have more free time (and better internet) I can rain hell down upon someone, or die trying. Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you. |

Being a carebear isn't about age or SP, it is a mentality. A way of life, inspired by the risk averse, the lazy, and the entitled. You cease being a carebear only when you realize that you are not special, and that you have no entitlement to anything. Once you realize that nobody owes you anything, you are no longer a carebear. Things are only impossible until they are not. |
