I was looking through the comprehensive forum index in order to post a particular question I had and I wanted to be sure I posted it in the right forum.
While looking I noticed that the General Discussion forum had the most post counts, yet it has the most ambiguous heading. So, I decided to post a question here that arose from my confusion.
Why is there a General Discussion forum and what sort of posts, historically, have most often been posted here that fit here?
On a personal level, I like the potpourri of questions/statements that are here. It is like walking through a rainbow of semi-pointlessness and all online games ought to have a place just like that.

It's a place for sh*tpoasting of stuff that is at least semi-EVE related, but doesn't fit into other channels.... a bit like this post. |

Simply put: Think of it as "other".
If it doesn't fit in an existing category or someone isn't sure where to post something - "other" so it goes in General Discussions. |

It's a place where people create forum alts to troll and spread propaganda and try to subvert the sandbox nature of EVE by metagaming and attempting to influence CCP into modifying the game to suit there particular alliance/part of space.
It's in particular the place to post stealth "nerf some part of the game I disapprove of" threads. |

This discussion seems better suited for out of pod experience, with every commentator sitting around a table together smoking weed, laughing hysterically as they read comments their friends type in the thread with their phones.

Tell me something OP. Have you ever been to Jita in game? GD is the Jita of the forums just about everyone passes through at least once. Only the greedy, the scammers, the trolls, the twisted, and sick of mind stick around for long. It's like Mos Eisley in that certain other space based universe. "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."
That's says a lot because I remember the old CAOD before CCP restricted it. |

General Discussion is where people who love the game but want it changed to benefit their play come to post whine threads.
For example:
Nerf Highsec Income
Nerf Highsec Safety
Nerf Ganking
Buff CONCORD Response TImes
Nerf Wardecs
Buff Wardecs
Nerf Gate Camps
Nerf Drones
Buff Drones
Buff Missiles
Nerf Blues (also NIP, "Blue Donut" "Bluesec")

etc.
If someone is posting a thread here it means one of three things:
1. They claim to love the game but want it changed.
2. They are drama whores whose only goal is to stir up drama and then look at it and say, "Look! I did that!"
2. They have an insane idea about something wholly ******** and are screaming for attention. These individuals also likely have daddy issues and often wear women's clothing.
The rest of us, who are not starting shiptoast threads in GD, generally post replies to make the OP feel bad for acting in accordance with the above.

I have been to Jita and I wept at the inhumanity I encountered there.
