What are the benefits of increasing Security status. Only thing I can deduce is that it gives people a buffer when doing "criminal" activity so they won't get below zero so quickly. What I've searched they only state generalizations, ways to increase it, and what negative status grants but nothing on what positive status grants. |

It really gives you nothing except that buffer as you already mentioned. For getting it above 5.0... Well bragging rights but cant think about anything beyond that Phoibe Enterprises official recruitment thread The Eve Reader - -áAudio Recordings of Eve Chronicles

Given that it is impossible to keep it over 5.0 for long if you illegally shoot people, it can lull targets into a false sense of security when they check your info and see a 5.2 security status.
But given that it is impossible to keep it over 5.0 for long if you illegally shoot people, you cannot abuse that false sense of security all that often. |

Thanks you two. So if you were to do things by the book and/or just refrain from conducting things that warrant loss of security status... neutral is basically equal to security status 9.0. |

Note you cant actually get your sec status that high.
You can go down to -10, and a bit over 5.0 but i have never seen anyone with 6.0 or higher. To get over 5.0 takes both standings, and skills and i think you can do some special missions or something that will get it over but not sure on that one. The highest security status you can get by normal means (=shooting NPC pirates) is 5.0.
There are a few left-over missions that will raise your security status even if you are already at 5.0, but those are one-time things. And I'm not even certain that they are still in the game. AFAIK some players have even higher sec status from way back, when it was possible to raise it to 10, but that's no longer possible. So, if you use the one-time things and then shoot players and drop below 5.0, you will never be able to get it back over 5.0 again.
Which basically means that someone with a sec status over 5.0 never illegally shoots anyone, making it an even bigger surprise if they do. |

Security status and Concord status have been decoupled. It is no longer possible by any means to get a status higher than 5.0, unless you had it before they decoupled it. And to have had that standing, you would have had to have done it before the last Concord Cosmos agents were "temporarily" suspended from giving out their missions. |

Last year there were two concord cosmos left. I had a 5.2 from faction spawn; I've run Christer Fuglesang, but never Jeremy Tacs (he was removed much earlier). One mission was enough to get me up to 5.5.
If you have Social skills maxed it was possible to get around a 6.0 from both missions.
In my opinion, security status's above 5.0 are the only people you can "trust" in lowsec to not shoot first. It's too much of a pain to raise and too easy to lose.
You can see a list of the highest sec status players on eveboard below: http://eveboard.com/fullranks/49-highest-security-status A number of players are in the 6s. There are probably many more who's api's aren't linked. Not a forum alt.-á |

I thought killing off officer class ships also increased your concord sec stats higher than 5? I've seen a couple of explorers having higher than 5 sec stats in the past.. |

That's way out of date. The only reason those agents contributed to your sec status was because Concord increases and sec status increases were linked. When they decoupled them, no mission can get you there. Besides, those agents were disabled about a year or more ago. |

It's true what Qalix said...it's not really possible to get over 5.0 sec status anymore. Trust me, I know what I am talking about. EVE Veteran |

Wait, wait, wait... wait...
... wait...
Are you guys telling me having anything over 0.0 security status is possible???? How come I haven't seen anyone above -2.0 in low-sec then????? I guess I've been living there for too long? *mind boggles* Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

A lot of 0.0 on down type residents can get fairly high ratings. They don't gank in empire space and killing any rats they come across can get them fairly high - more so in the past but it's not uncommon to find people who don't think about it that much.
it doesn't mean you should trust such if you bump into them, it just means they don't bother going to empire with that char very often. |

There is one effect that might be considered a benefit albeit minor of having high positive sec status.
Someone shooting you illegally will take a bigger sec status hit for the privilege. In very rare cases in low sec this may cause someone to choose not to shoot you particularly on a gate/station where the chance of success may be in doubt due to gate guns. But this will only be people who actually care about their own sec status. Flashies, won't even look.
It isn't a reason to go for high sec status though, the chance of this happening is too rare to make it worthwhile on it's own. In addition in some cases you might actually want them to shoot first and aggro the gate guns. I disagree. Having a positive sec status makes it much easier to encourage new recruits to trust your "missioning corp". https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=326497 --áPsychotic Monk for CSM! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. Because at -1.9 they make a trip to hisec to get more stuff to shoot people with. First shot knocks them right back into -2.0 |
