ok, simple question. I need to buy a bottle of vodka for someone as a thankyou gift, to be given to them next week. however, I can't touch the stuff, even a small drop leaves me throwing up for hours. Absinthes, Whiskey, malts, all perfectly ok, but vodka, deadly to me... so I have no clue a good voddie from cheap grog.
so I'd like people's suggestion and advice as to what to go and order - something good, something a bit unusual, rather than something picked up at the local tescos.
any suggestions, and the reason why you'd reccommend it would be welcome. :) Thanks!

Smirnoff Norsk.
Nothing finer, with ice, and a lime.
Recommended, because it's so dam refreshing to drink ______ Long ago one gorgeous night, we let the stars grow free. We let Zhuge do that once, he came back carrying a traffic cone, a forsale sign and three empty bottles of dutch lager. He also lost his Zimmer Frame... - Imaran

Edited by: Luskin on 15/04/2006 08:19:54 You need to go to Poland for real vodka. Trust me on that. Some of the stuff there is actually illegal in the UK, If I remember right. Polish people know how to get drunk.

Ok, the more times it's been distilled the better.
Smirnoff Norsk isn't bad. Red label is awful. I think it's the black that's the import.... ______________________

As long as you get something thats been distilled quite a few times you'll be fine. Absolut from sweden is also a good brand

Vodka should be served straight and ice cold.
Most of the time though, I'm just drinking the cheap stuff to get drunk so it's mixed into coke. ______________________

Smirnoff Black label, if you can find it. It's not so strong as the Blue label but it tastes hella better.
And yes, it should be kept in the deep-freeze. ________________________________________________

Grey Goose is certainly the premium 'plain' vodka that I can think of.
If you want to try something unusual, a Polish vodka named 'Zubrovka' is a personal favourite.
It is flavoured with bisongrass, and comes with a blade of grass in the bottle.
Tastes slightly reminiscent of the scent of a freshly mown lawn. Sounds wierd, but is actually great.

Should be available at any reasonably large or good quality off licence. Think large Oddbins probably stock both, and maybe Waitrose supermarket.

Krupnik. Polish vodka with honey and herbs.
You can drink it 'as is' or you can warm it up a little and slug it back. Good for a cold!

There's a newer local brand out now, though I'm not sure of it's availability...
Colorado Vodka, I don't like Vodka much, but I've been told by those snotty vodka drinkers in the mountains that it's pretty damn good. Definitely something a little unique if you're in Europe. Maybe they ship?

If you can find it, Blackwoods Vodka is really good. They also have a vodka based liquer called Jago that tastes like mini milks if you remember those. - Pain is a way of knowing yourself; Death is the ultimate in self-discovery.
