Instead take small diminishing NOS and small unstable power fluctuator. That is what I do.

I dont have the skills to fly one of these yet (I am working towards it, 22 days to go!!) but I thought the retribution had five hi slots not 4. Just wondered why you are only using four of them in your mission runner setup?

cpu can be a major issue with the retri if your trying to fill that last high slot

Its worth noting that the Vengeance has undergone some changes since this guide was written. +1 more low slot, laser optimal bonus changed to laser damage bonus, more armour, less shield and a bit more grid.
Nice guide though - don't believe the hype ;-)

Edited by: Demora Anglis on 08/10/2006 11:59:52 If anybody feels daring, there is in fact a method of solo-PVP'ing in a Retribution.
Simply fit an MWD and bump, bump, bump your opponent constantly so they'll never be able to align for warp. Of course, this relies on the fact that your opponent is doing miserable DPS because it'll screw your Transversal oh so bad.

Hello,
Just got my Retribution today and tried one lvl 3 mission with it. I got a Pirate Invasion with lots of Guristas with missiles. I must say - Retribution sucks BIG TIME for missions running, because I couldnt even take 2 Moas in it. I'd say my Crusader is a better mission runner than Retribution. Maybe I'm doing something terribly wrong though?
My set up is this:
====High Slots===== Medium Pulse II x4
===Med Slots==== x5 Prototype Web
===Low Slots==== Small Armor Repairer II Heat Sink II Thermic Plating II Radioisotope Adaptive Nano Membrane I 20mm Reinfored Rolled Tungsten Plates I
With my skills, I'm using 145.40/150 CPU and 69/70 PG.
My skills arent quite what the author of the thread says you need to fly Amarr AFs well, but they are very close. I meet the requiremenets for Navigation and Gunnery. Mechanics I'm doing gd, except I got the resists skills on lvl 3, not 4. Engineering skills I'm half way there. I got the Assault ships skill to lvl 2 today and currently training for lvl 3.
With my skills and set-up I get: 281 Shield with 0%/70%/90%/20% resists 1591 Armor with 67%/69%/84%/61% resists 1132 Hull with 0%/0%/0%/0% resists
My speed is 288m/s.
I deal about 60 damage per shot (using conflagration crystals and being in optimal).
With all this said, I really cant see how one can do any lvl 3 mission easily. I'd say it's impossible. I'd even say my Crusader can do these missions better than the Retribution. I can't see how one can tank lvl 3's and I cant see how one can do decent damage with a tank fitted. Med Pulses just chew up capacitor, pg and cpu, while they dont give that much back. It's also a problem getting in range and I cant see how one can fit an AB or an MWD on Retribution, keeping the setup that I have.
Can somebody tell me if I'm doing something wrong or if I have a gimped set up or if I need to train up some skills asap (specify which ones!)? I've trained so long for this ship and now I realise it's gimped =((. Please Help! Thank you!

Missions, aye?
4x Dual Light Pulse II (Conflag) 1x Small Diminishing Nos
1x Gistii A-Type 1MN Afterburner
1x Small Armor Rep II 1x EANM II 1x Energized Thermic Membrane II 1x Heatsink II 1x Cap Power Relay I
Very very close to fully sustainable, without the nos running. Bit of nossing keeps you in good shape. Getting into range will never be a problem, nor will staying there even without a web (speed should be 640-670 depending on skills). Tanking is good with SAR running on auto permanently, and resists around 70/85/71/72.
I used modulated pulses, tech1 thermic membrane and extruded heatsink when I tested this setup (undoubtably weaker than what I posed above), but was still able to clear the 3 bc, 2 bs sansha spawn in downing the slavers lvl 4.
Of course, the AB will cost you 15-20mil, and you need it for everything to fit, and for cap to be stable, but if you decide to go for it, you'll love it.
It works oke for frig gang pvp as well, but most people will want more damage output to justify the lack of tackling gear.
Hope this helps
Edit: You might need to slightly improve your fitting skills to get it all on there - if you have cpu troubles, drop the heatsink to named or thermic hardener to tech1. If grid is short, you probably have to eat the training time for weapon upgrades 5 so you can get a lvl or two of AWU.

Thanks for quick response and good advice.
I'm going to try and play with the set up a bit more and train up some skills. However, my idea originally was that AFs are gd missions runners and pvp'ers that cost less than the BS insurance and are much more mobile and fun to play. By now, I have already spent 24mil on my retribution, which is more than the insurance cost for the Armageddon. Therefore, I cant really see a point in AFs now... especially for Mission or Ratting. If you lose one, it will cost you about 20-30mil and it will take you quite a long time to do missions and ratting. Why not just get an Armageddon or Apocalypse and run the lvl 3s afk? Ratting will go much quicker and your are generally less vulnerable as not everyone will try and attack you and if a BS comes into the system, you just warp away. No? What is the whole point in AFs then? Am I missing their "crunch point" or something?

The price comparison you're doing makes no sense. If you lose a geddon, you lose a lot more than the insurance cost. Try comparing ISK loss of losing a fully fitted retri to the ISK cost of losing a fully fitted geddon, after insurance. Those megapulses, the LAR, extra EANM and so on, it all adds up.
Yes, an AF will run missions less efficiantly than a BS (or even a BC). Yes, AFs are more mobile and fun to fly. I don't think you're less vulnerable in a BS than in an AF though. If a real pirate jumps into a belt and spots your pve fitted ship, he will attack you no matter what you're flying. And the AF will warp out faster.
Anyways, I guess it's a matter of personal taste. I fly lvl3 in a prophecy (except when I feel like a bit of fun), but I'd rather do gang pvp in a ceptor or AF.
Besides, most of the skills you've trained for the retri are generic and always useful, like the fitting, cap, and tanking skills.

Hmmm, calculations I've made were of the top of my head really, never actually tested them in EVE, so you are probably right about what you said... I guess the AFs are for people with lots and lots of SPs and ISK, cause right now, I really cant see any role for Retribution that my Crusader wouldnt be able to fulfill better. I havent tried it in gang PvP yet though, so maybe that's what it is really for... although Crusader still seems better to me =)...
Anyway, for now, I found a solution - sell the Retribution and try to get as much of my money back as possile. Meanwhile, I got another Crusader while being in Empire =). Maybe with time I'll realise what the Retribution is really for...maybe not...

I think the Crusader falls rather short when taking on frigates, destroyer or if webbed compared to a retribution. A Retribution has resistances to take a beating, the crusader dies rather fast. The roles of the Crusader is the tacklers though, it shall get to the target quick and mess it up with webs and scramblers. Some time after the Retri arrives and starts the pounding.
But to each his own, i love my retribution, but i have yet to try a Crusader.

The guide looks great, I did some quickfit tests and the retri mission setup looks to be pretty **** mean and relaxed.

Here's my Lowsec Ratting / Salvage setup:
4x Medium Pulse Laser IIs w/ Conflag Salvager I
Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters
Small Armor Repairer II Heat Sink II Dark Blood Thermic Plating N-Type Adaptive Nano Membrane I Beta Reactor Control: Capacitor Power Relay I
some of the stuff can be switched out with less expensive items, but on an assault frig why go for the cheapest when you can outrun anything short of an inty?
that fits with 69/70 PG, so I could switch to T2 burners, if I had the skill o_0. but for lowsec ratting/salvaging, it works wonders. Great guide, btw

Wee, great guide. I love my Vengeance and I love it even more when I'm flying with my friend with his Retribution. They compliment each other well.
Here's my Vengeance setup:
[HI] 3x Medium Pulse Laser II's (Conflagration S x3) 'Arbalest' R. Launcher (Foxfire/Phalanx) -- Use T2 launcher if you can, keep t1 rockets
[MED] Cold-Gas AB --> Use T2 or Gistii if possible. X5 Web --> Fleeting/Dark Blood (I think) if you have ISK to throw away Faint Warp Prohibiter
[LOW] Small Armor Rep II Beta/Mark I/Type-D Cap Relay (Depending on your wallet) Heat Sink II Heat Sink II
This puts out a nice amount of damage. I've taken out a Myrmidon (mind you horribly fitted :P), two Feroxes (no NOS), a Thorax (no NOS, T1 Drones), and a Vexor (Small NOS, T1 Drones) as well as many other ships. [Solo]
You'll notice a few T1 mods where I could have T2s, that's because of the Medium Pulses. I need to get WU to 5 and then AWU to 1+ to start fitting T2 with Medium Pulses but if you INSIST on T2 or bust, then go with Dual Light Pulse IIs.
Skills! Skills! Skills! The better your skills the better this ship will be. When I first got my AF I had crap gunnery skills and MINIMAL rocketry and I've come a long way, but I still have a ways to go before I reach this ship's full potential.
Oh, and keep T1 rockets! Rage rockets do more damage sure, but they reduce cap recharge rate by 10% and it's just not worth it. Perhaps if you have mega cap rep skills *shrugs*
Use Foxfire for Serpentis NPCs and Phalanx will be great VS most in PVP as almost everything you can take out has weak armor resistances VS explosive damage, where your guns do EM.

I hope you like it. And, of course, you could swap a heat sink out for an adaptive nano or a named thermic energized membrane. ------------------------------------------ PLEASE LET ME CHANGE MY CHARACTER NAME CCP -- I'LL PAY $ AND EVERYTHING <3 |

Vengeance is my favorite ship in game,I just love it! 3-4 days ago, I killed a Drake in it. Drake pilot was not so experienced (2 months old player), I was gonna ransom him, took him into 20% hull, opened convo, then my corp m8 appears and, without knowing I am ransoming, he killed in his Maller. I said I killed him, cause he was in 20 hull, and I was intact, my friend just laid the final blow. My setup:
Lows: SAR II, HS II, Type-d Cap Recharger Mids: 1mn AB II, X5 webber, faint scram Highs: 3x Heavy Pulses with conflagration, e5 nos
This setup is for solo anything, NPC or PvP, but it's not good tackler for gate camps cause of lack of MWD, but that's why we have ceptors with us. |

I just got my Retribution today and was started to fit when i realized it had 5 high slots. All the above setups have 4 high slots listed. Whats best to fit on the last slot? I'm thinking of using it for missions. I was thinking of a named-nos or is there anything else more useful? I have another ship just for salvaging so i'm not interested in that kind of equipment.
My setup today is: 4x Heavy Pulse 2's 1MN AB 2x CPR, HS2, SAR2 and some energized plating. /Arnaxh |

Gatling Pulse II's put out such little damage its rediculous :P
On my punisher I could fit 3 Gatling pulse 2's or 3 200mm autocannon's (with small projectile turrets lvl 2) and the autocannons out damaged them. If you can fit Medium Pulse 2's go for it, they are so much more damage its amazing. My vengeance currently has 1 medium pulse 2, 1 dual light pulse 2 plus a heat sink 2, the medium pulse hits in the range of 100+ the dual light in 50+.

Here's one of the setups I run for the Vengeance:
Role: Fleet Battle Podding
Highs: 3 Dual Light Pulse II - Loaded with scorch s Med: Sensor Booster II - 1MN MWD - 20KM Scram (J5 or better) Low: 200MM Plate - SAR II - Voltaic Energized Thermic - Voltaic Energized Adaptive Cargo: 3 conflag s
Technique: Fleet Battle ship, so listen for primaries. If you're in low-sec without kill rights, don't fire on the enemy ship, wait for the pod. SB II allows almost insta-lock on the pod, and you can lock-pop-scoop within the area of 10 seconds and warp out if the sentries open on you. Plate combined with tank allows you ample time to make a dash to the nearest planet and return for the next target. MWD allows you to pull out of enemy scram range as well as it allows you to close the gap of space to get on top of a pod.
Notes: This setup was designed for the sole purpose of podding high-profile enemies, at the current time I use a cold-gas on this setup and it still works fairly nice. I keep scorch loaded almost all the time until I get right on top of the target; good damage at 10KM and good for drone work as well. In 0.0 or situations where you have kill rights, this setup makes a great fast-tackler and drone killer in the fleet. For the role of podding, create a new overview theme with the only the following showing: planets, pods, biomass (corpses). This setting will remove everything in a fleet battle that gets inyour way of podding; wrecks, drones, ships, etc. -- Allowing you a better chance to insta-lock the pod. We keep planets so we can see (by measure of AU) which planet is the closest and you warp to that. Similar overview setting can be created for drone killing. *snip* your sig is too large. Maximum sig size is 24,000 bytes, your current sig is 40,174 bytes - Karass Sayfo |
