I was just wondering what is the "best" industrial ship? I see alot of people flying Iteron 5's is there any especially good reason for this? I'm minmatar and run 2 accounts 1 to mine and 1 to haul, and am interested in getting the best solo mining hauler possible. So please let me know what you think. Also if possible fittings for the industrial you like the best. Thank you in advance

A fully expanded Iteron 5 is the best hauler if you're willing to put in the about 30 day training time to get one. It can scoop a jet can in one go with cargo containers and named expanders. ---- EVE-Central.com | Obsidian Technologies - 0.0 Manufacturing, Defense and Logistics. We're hiring! Mail me |

I think Iteron V has the biggest cargo hold of all and most low slots for expanders, but needs Industrial lvl5 while Mammoth only needs lvl4. You can compare the cargoholds via Item database, so you can see the differences.

Thanks for the advice, but how does it do defensivly? Also I've used cargo expanders but how does that work with cargo containers to "scoop" a jetcan?

Edited by: Kaladr on 17/04/2006 01:07:03 You don't scoop the can, its just a way of saying it can hold 27,500m3 in the right setup. Note that this needs the very expensive named expanders to pull it off. ---- EVE-Central.com | Obsidian Technologies - 0.0 Manufacturing, Defense and Logistics. We're hiring! Mail me |

Ok I see that's a massive cargohold! As far as being able to take a beating as well as have a large cargohold what ship would be best when balancing those 2 aspects?

Itty Vs can have a very nice tank, thanks to their many mid slots (for an indy and Gal ship).
The Mammoth is the second largest hauler, so you should just stick with Minmatar for now.
If you really want to be a dedicated hauler you can go Iteron, but it depends on how long you'd have to train and if you want to train that much.

All the Iteron's have a single hardpoint for weapons. The major differences as you go up the ladder of the Iteron class are all low and med slots, cpu, pwr, cargo, and shielding. I've never worked it out, but starting from scratch it would probably take 3-4 weeks or so to skill up for one. You'd have to get to Frigate III and Indy V, assuming your command was at III already. I like the 1600 armor, a mwd, a targeting interupter of some kind, and an expander. They are slow of course.

I like an indy with a tractor beam (science lvl4) saves time when jumping within 15k of a can to just haul it towards you. (forget weapons in an indy)

Realistically no industrial will take a beating. Even if you shield tank it, your only hope is going to be in speed and stealth outside high sec. If you want something that can deal with a lot of damage consider training for transport ships.

I need an Amaar to check me on this but...
Have you considered a Bestower? It has fairly good armor on it, a standard large cargo hold, 4 low slots, and only takes Industrial 1 to fly it.
The skill seems wrong to me, but last time I checked thats all it said it took. Check it, and if thats true, would be a good in-between ship untill you can fly an Itty V

Yes, the Bestower only needs Amarr Industrial at level 1. For each additional level, you get another 5% of space. It's probably the best hauler for new players and those that just want to be able to haul every now and then with a minimal skill investment. But if you're in it for the long run, go for the Iterons.

For the short term I like the Sigil... It doesnt have the huge cargo hold, but its very easy to train for, fast, and mine is decked out now with MWD(or AB) and Cloaking device so running a blockaid is fairly easy.
As mentioned above, you realy can't tank a Indy. Your best bet is to get out of there as quickly as possible or avoid the fight by using the map. You can set them up with decent resists but that will usualy only buy you a few secounds. Also remeber the sensors on a Indy bite, so odds are your going to be dead before getting a lock on a target to jam them. So I suggest using modules that do not require a lock, you want to get out of there ASAP.

Edited by: Wizerud on 18/04/2006 16:47:36 Having been pointed in the direction of a Sigil the other day via another thread, I can certainly attest to its worth. I already had Minmatar Industrial up to level 2 but the Sigil blows away the Hoarder in all aspects but cargo room.
The Sigil has 5 low slots (5!) so with those filled with Type-D Nanofibers, Amarr Industrial Level 2 and Navigation 4 the Sigil has a base speed of 360 m/s, under afterburner 422 m/s.
The bonuses on the ship are nice too - 5% to both cargo room and maximum velocity per level.
The Sigil is a great ship if you don't care that much about having the biggest cargo room (base is only 3000m3) but still want enough to hoard around a bunch of minerals or whatever. With 5 low slots and the 5% cargo room bonus you can still get the cargo room to a respectable level.
And you can get trained Amarr Industrial trained up to level 1 within 10 hours (assuming no Amarr Frigate training) so you can get in it pretty damn quick.
