To get more influence usually I go for Influence research such as entertainment, diplomatic, cultural, etc that raise your influence. Also building starbase helps alot. Scout around to find an influence resource (blue box) and send several constructor to upgrade it like crazy (upgrading military defense on it is optional).
One of the good way of using influence starbase is when you deploy it near other faction colony. Upgrade it, and watch in several turns as that colony revolt and join the dar.. erm your side. ---------
The PIEs are there. The cAKe are here. Even the [23] are watching you... |

Done all that and still my influence lags way behind the rest of the civilisations
i see very small increments in it, i also start with a +50 to influence and still no.
Is there some setting on the planet view im not checking the box to? or some thing im missing. so lame... --------------------------------------------------------

Build tons of influence starbases and build every single influence improvement and wonder.
You'll have 90% influence so easily that its sort of pathetic tbh

ok it takes ages and the other civ's literally just shoot off in all aspects of the game for the first 100 turns but its alright game.
Tho imho ST-Generations 4 years older is better, better gfx, better gameplay and better tutorial help.
Its an ok game tho. --------------------------------------------------------

Played. completed.
Easy.
Only build influence sb on your borders/ near there planets.
In anycase dont go that route, go military victory and just invade the most influencial****s. they'll surrender and it'll be easy

The game comes with both a printed Manual AND a PDF manual.
Hell, even if you download the game, you still get a PDF manual, check the game's directory. ---------------------------------------- Space-Slacker |

I found the game self explanitory to be honist.
But then I've had to get very used to playing games using software with out manuals and stuff. Mostly because I could never be arsed to read them :)
Just remember for a game like this the first try is always to learn the game. It's the next play though that you really start having fun.
Oh and what do you lot name your ships, I hvae to admit to using kessie, caracal and raven for my missile ships.

i use amarr ship names because im to lazy to come up with my own. i just got the Kryo's hull system mod v1.3, if you dont have it and you like building ships, you'll love it.
to the op, somtimes you MUST build influence starbases, like whenever im in a game where the torians are on my border i have to put one in every square where the border is, otherwise they start to convert my people. additionaly build influence buildings on your border planets helps too.
