Having assumed that the new patch overwrote my current prefs.ini I tried to create folders in 'People & Places' and setting up my windows again - the settings were not saved. Having now looked into the prefs.ini all my previous set-up info is there but being ignored. Even if i let it create the file from scratch this info is not being saved. Anyone else having problems?

I really hope they can get out a fast patch for this. It is highly annoying.

I changed my prefs, window placement, etc two times now, and when relogging it is back to default trying to stick me in the newbie tutorial. heh.
Did you have to wipe your pref.ini in order to get your new changes to stick?

Your "settings" are no longer saved in the prefs.ini... Instead, everything gets saved on dat files in the "settings" folder.
Also.. A trick that luckily still works for now to save settings. Instead of quitting to the desktop, you have to crash to the desktop. Like what happens when downtime starts. Or when you press the "Login Screen" button in the options menu.
When ever you exit, certian temporary settings get removed.. And at the same time some of your other settings get removed as well. So just CTD to save all your settings.

Its a lot of data that was saved 'client side' - i have too many folders to have to remember to CTD every time i'm in and out.
It would be nice to know if this is an oversight or deliberate from CCP

Just play the game as normal. It will happen on it's own.

you know what blows? having lots of bookmarks neatly in alot of folders and then have them not be stored on the server and say ubbs when the patch removes the prefs file and everyhing it snot in folders anymore

The auto-repeat setting was also 'client-side' so remember to reset any modules you rely on every time

This reminds me of EQ when they introduced the "fully customizable XML based UI".
You could customize it out the yin yang, but EVERY SINGLE PATCH would break it and you had to start all over again.
What's the point?

alt+f4 activates the 4th mid slot, how is that going to help?

Ok, so how do I get from fullscreen to windowed and make it stick...changing the prefs.ini does nothing...and using the alt-enter or esc menu just crashes the eve gui with nothing but a zombie eve process running which I have to kill...I start up again and its fullscreen still
What can i do...can I edit those damn .dat files...? |

some of you really need to clear (totally DELETE) all files and catalogs inside the /CACHE folder
It helps.
(then you need to recreate the folders again, in "places".. but it just takes few moments (drag&dropping bookmarks to folders is much easier then before)

Okey, when u say Totally DELETE, Its like, Open the "...\CCP\EVE\cache - and press CTRL+A (Select everything) , and HIT the DELETE buttom - Confirm. ? And I wont loose any important files etc.. I can see some patch files there etc...
I mean, Every File & Folder inside the Cache folder is 600Mb.. Thats alot.

Try reinstall the whole game. Pain in the ass, but it worked for me.

Then again, I reinstalled the whole game (deinstallation from control panel; downloaded full build; installed), and it didn't fix these problems... |

What I'm most ****ed about is it was a known issue and they patched anyway. Here is what it says in 'Know Issues':

To switch from windowed to fullscreen or the other without causing the game to crash.. You need to switch the modes in the options.. THEN exit the game before it crashes. You should start off in the mode you selected next time.
And like I said before.. To save things like the places folders (which I don't bother with anymore because lag will cause the contents of the folders to move out of the folders anyways) To save your folders though.. Just press ESC and click the "Login Screen" button. That will cause the type CTD you need to save that info.

LMAO! So now were looking for certain types of CTDs to workaround bugs. Is it just me or does the whole idea seem ludicrous. ---------------------------------------------- "Let me guess, my theories appall you, my heresies outrage you, I never answer letters and you don't like my tie."
