Edited by: Deva Blackfire on 17/04/2006 14:05:35 Just a hint:
Ability to see (in list of players on local) who is hostile/friedly to you. I know this can bring problems server side (50ppl jumpping into 100ppl ocupied system, all standings loading up) so maybe it is possible to do it client-side: you set standing (or just mark like +/-)towards person and it is stored in eve cache folder.
And most important: show that standing (or +/- mark) on ppl on local. It is a bit hard to check 300+ ppl for hostiles or add every hostile to your adressbook (yeah... it can be quite big after some time).
I just ask for easy friend/foe recognition :)

You're totally hitting the wrong direction in this problem. Being able to see and check anyone who is in the system ruins a lot of tactical options. People need to be removed from local unless they speak in it, not made easier to see if the system is hazardous for you. :P

Edited by: Morgan Eke on 17/04/2006 20:06:01 I agree (with op). Right now I (and assumedly lots of other people) add enemies to their friends list so they get the little green square next to them in local. It's workable, but annoying.

Mmm I agree and disagree.
WOuld I like to see them easier? Yeah, but does that mean I should? No..
I think the tactical aspect of the game should override how easy it is for me to tell if my enemies are in system.
Perhaps in High sec, yes, since everyone gets 'scanned' by Concord.
Possibly even in lowsec, but certainly not in 0.0, where its up to player corps/alliances to monitor that.
(Possibly the lower sec your in, the sooner your name disappears from local? ..)
Say your name stays in local in .4 for.. 30 minutes, .3, for 20, .2, for 10, and .1 for 5 or less?

Both sides have an arguement.
Making it easier has the benifit of less useless information eating space on the database server. I personally have over 800 people in my friends folder just from RA and RA friendly corps. However, the server would be hit harder if everyone had to show info constantly to determine friendly status.
Making people not show up in local unless they talk or having people disappear from local over time would make pvp less avoidable. I would certainly make ganking miners at belts a hell of a lot easier. Unfortuately, that would probably have the effect of much less mining of high end minerals and cause prices to go way up.
One possible solution would be to allow people to remove themselves from local. When they do so though, they can no longer see the local channel either. In order to prevent abuse, it should not be able to be turned on or off more than once per 30 mins.

Make names in local have a "backing colour" the same to overview.... So if your overview would display them red they'll appear red in local, also make it so corp/gang can be removed from local like they can be from gang :D
maybe a new option on overview "[ ] Apply these settings to local?"

you can just add your friends to people & places list. If you see green square near portrait in local its your friend.

when you have whole alliances as freinds and as foes the buddy list is NOT a workable solution.
because things can change so fast a whole alliance that was friendly can turn into a hostile over night. this is what standings are for. you cannot say the buddies list is capable of maintaining such information if you have to cope with multipal alliances who may or may not be your friends today. i believe that we should be able to see standings in local, regardless if it is nerfed or not. say ccp do decide to nerf local, i still want standings shown so i can call the wrath of my alliance when i see someone smack talking in local.
so local nerf or not, please show standings in local.
and as it seems ccp have stated they wont add standings to local (still waiting on proof of this) i have promised to do some south park style protesting.

Hmm i dont need standings. I just want to have some kind of mark on every person i meet (so if i meet you for the 1st time, i add "red" dot near you meaning hostile) - and that "mark" could be stored on my HDD in cache folder. No way you could abuse this (or nothing comes to my ming atm), you could copy those files from cache to corp members (so everyone gets same status - faster than clicking 1000 pl ingame) AND it will reduce a lag a bit because there will be no checking if person is online or offline.
Lets see: if 1000ppl add pirate to their peoples and places and he logs on - then 1000 "messages" must be send. Average number of 500-1000 players in each alliance PvP character adressbook means it takes a bit from server capacity. Not much but always improvement.
So this would be the same as current "add to peoples and places" but stored on HDD and only with positive/negative marking (yellow/green/blue/pink/whatever dot)
PS. Hope someone understands me, cause i cant make any sense of it atm ;p
