Hi everyone,
I was checking my training plan the other day and noticed I'll have the opportunity to train jump freighters pretty soon. The issue is that this char is fully PVP specced. So my question is: Do you rate having JFs trained as valuable, usefull on a Null PVP account or would you avoid it as an alt only skill?
Thanks for your responses,

For an alt, sure. For your main character, probably not so much, I think. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. GǪ" |

I do agree with Cameron.
Also for another reason, having a JF means you need one of the following 2 options:
1. A corp with people you can trust to light the cyno. 2. An alt that can light the cyno.
As option 2 already means you need 2 accounts. You are better of making a dedicated JF alt on account 2 and skill a basic cyno alt on account 1 (training basic cyno alt only takes a week or 2 at most).
If option 1 applies, then yes it could be valuable. Because you wont be serving yourself alone but also the rest of the corp and thus can make it into some form of income (buy ships and modules in highsec and sell them for profit in null - just keep in mind to also take jump fuel costs and the initial costs of the JF into account). Yes if you don't have analt you want to train but as J'poll already said to use properly you need either an alt or alliance mate for cyno.
Also keep in mind a jump freighter is 6+ billion. Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if your in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. |

And of course some will want to help you to not lose your mind in hauling but do want to help you get that freighter of your assets list. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Oh the lack of foresight in this thread...
Absolutely you should train for it. You never know when the opportunity to 'acquire' one may present itself.

This right here is reason enough for me to train any ship skill...

I had something similar about 2.5 year ago.
Found a nice shiny ship...left in a place where it suppose to be safe in a POS, too bad the owner forgot to fuel it.
I logged in my alt...knowing my skillqueue...the moment I jumped into system notification pops up:

Thx for the replies.
Don't need or want to fly them for the moment. Just fits in well with my training plan. Would together with exhumers be the only willpower/perception skill not maxed out and am not planning on revisiting that training line. Btw when you count out all your tech 2 line ships at max efficiency training you notice that you are just about 25 days short of a full year. Hence my question.
Also not the type to do people favours and **** away ships. Advice is free, so help out on the forums but money is something else entirely. Reopen the EVE gate so we can invade Serenity. Goons can go first. |

I'm not sure what exactly you're referring to training (spaceship command vs jump skills), but the jump skills take quite a bit of time to train. JDC 4 is a must have, JDC 5 is fairly necessary, unless you enjoy 5 or 6 cyno jumps to get to your destination. The other jump skills are just as crticial and the fuel savings numbers add up quick. |

Am referring to the spaceship command skill (should be pretty obvious from the above). Jump skills are maxed.

I think it's a good idea if it's just a matter of injecting the skill. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. |

I would have to train Industry before I can inject.

Radius Prime wrote:Am really asking a very specific question.
Would it be an advantage to be proficient in JFs with your main when living in Null/wormholes? Obviously it would be an advantage. There is an advantage to having every skill. People are doing their best to explain that, regardless of whether or not it would be an advantage to have it, are you going to use it and, if so, there are many caveats to consider.
I'm also not sure where I was supposed to have divined that your jump skills are already trained.
JF 5 is unnecessary, unless you just want every possible hit point and every bit of jump fuel savings. Cargo space is driven by the freighter skill. The training time to benefits derived ratio isn't really worth it unless you're going to be flying them all the time. Even then, unless you're working with a group that can save you if you get pointed/bubbled, extra hit points do you no good.
In your particular case, it sounds like pointless training time. |

Yup, should have probably asked in the skill discussion section. People here automatically assume that the ones asking questions are newbies, hence the label 'New Citizens Q&A'.

OP you claim we're giving newbie answers yet you don't have the experience to look at your situation and determine what your needs are. I think this section is more appropriate for your questions than you think. |

I do agree.
If you have to ask about a 6 bil ship if it can be useful to YOU (hint, we aren't you so we don't know exactly in what situation you are)....you don't need it or aren't ready to use it. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Pfft, for years I help out people with things I have experience with. For once I genuinely have a question about **** I haven't flown before and look for advice. Result: i get dumped on. Wonder what I was thinking.
Anyway, this char has never been played, I usually play low skill alts to keep clone costs down. So meanwhile this one keeps collecting SP I don't use on skills I don't need. The goal creating nothing short of the perfect combat char. He will take 4 more years and well over 200 mio SP to finish in the end. Had been breaking my head about the need for JFs and I guess I was kind of hoping you guys would take the decision out of my hands. Will have to decide myself.

You're getting flak because your attitude is bad.
The irony is, every one of your questions in the OP was answered. |
