Earlier today I was given illegal activity part 1... I warped in, began to fly toward the first spawn, and the second spawn came in behind me, everyone agroed, and I lost my ship.
A couple hours later (now) I have been given illegal activity part 1 again. This time I warped in at 40km, headed to where the first spawn comes in. I got one of the elite frigates downto about half armor when the second spawn came in, agroed, and I warped out.
What is a better strategy for beating this thing? I've already turned down a couple missions and lost standings with this agent (I only started doing level 3s yesterday)... I don't want to lose much more
I was running in a Brutix: Highs: 5x 200mm rails (with Uranium), nos, tractor beam Mids: web, 3x cap rechargers Lows: MAR II, 2 kin hardeners, 2 therm hardeners
Gotcha! I bet that got ya all hot under the collar, didn't it? |

I used a ferox with 5 Limos heavies 3 large shield extenders, but I am Caladri. This wasn't to difficult with this setup.

You know what? Gooooooooooood for you! I don't have a damn Ferox. And even though I don't have a Ferox, EVERY SINGLE THREAD I've started with questions about battlecruisers (all have been about Brutix or Prophecy) have someone saying "I did it in my Ferox", or "I used my Ferox with 1 mil SP". FINE! Nice! But why are you wasting bytes on the forum telling me that you did it easily in a freaking Ferox? I'm asking for help doing this in a Brutix, not a Ferox!

When I did this mission recently I found that target priority is a huge thing. When I did the mission the first time I concentrated on those pesky support frigates and lost my Brutix. When I went back in with a new Brut I targeted the second spawns Thoraxs first and then went from there. That seemed to cut the damage down significantly and I was able to finish the mission without too much trouble. Also I notice that in that first wave there are the support frigates and something like Gallente Navy Officers or some such (like 3 of them). Those 3 do a great deal more damage then the support frigs and while in the Brut, your usually not relying on speed for survival so being webbed by the support frigs isn't a big deal. Just my experience with it, hope that will help a little. Also, you might want to try fitting a few small rails on the Brut in place of the tractor beam and a med rail to help deal with the frigates.

Good points on target priority. Thanks!
Question about that though: Did you find that you were able to clear the first spawn well before the second spawn arrived?

I'm not sure what kind of ships spawn in that one, but when faced with big numbers, its usually a good idea to get rid of the things you can kill easiest first.
This usually means pound on the low bounty cruisers to get rid of them.
Medium drones should take care of the inties and if you fit a 150mm small gun or two you'll tidy up.

I have done this mission several time in both my Cyclone & Tempest. The key is definatly target priority, basically the first spawn is just the miners (basic frigates), but because of there distance they are a pain. The weay to do this mission seems to be to not bother with the miners first of all and stay at the warp in point until the second spawn then go for the Thorax's as these do a fair amount of damage at really close range (~2km). I generally done bother with the miners until the very end (you only ever get mining lasers from them) --------------------------------- Monkey Nut Developer of the 'EVESuite' applications. |

As Everyone said, target priority is very important
As you use hybrid turret, you must have more than one type of ammos, for range management I will change the nos item, for a assault missile launcher (If you can use it) The assault will rid you of small target and got lot of ammo (Range will be 18 km with no skill)
Don't go to the first spot, use Iron and kill them at long range be ready to change target as soon as the second spawn pop

You dont have to kill the miners (1st spawn) to complete the mission, they dont auto-agro. I dont think you get anything 'useful' from them beside a faction hit.

I generally warp in at 60, then start travelling back in de direction i came from, that way, the second spawn will pop up just at my max range and i take them all out one by one, Thorax first...then its just a matter of taking out the miners if i feel like it...

I just did it recently easily in my Raven. It wasn't too bad in my Ferrox either but I had to warp out a few times Seriously though, target priority is your friend here. Get rid of the Navy officer frigates ASAP. They web you and also do pretty decent damage.

I concur with the others. When I do this mission in my Fer- er, when I do this mission, I kill the support frigates in wave 1 first, and kill the Thoraxes in the wave 2 first (I can usually down the support frigates in wave 1 before wave 2 arrives).
The first time I did this mission, I tried to kill the support frigates in wave 2 first and had to warp out because of the damage caused by the Thoraxes, so yeah, they are my priority targets now.

Jump in, turn away from the miners, run like hell. Start shooting support frigates as soon as they appear. IIRC, you can use BM's on this one. So if you fail to get the d@mn support frigates the first time, you can come back at longer range and try again.

Trying to remember my old setup for this, I think it was 5x 250mm and 2x 150mm dual.
Turn away and hit from didtance, change out ammo as they close (keep the dual 150's for the frigats that close on you)
I have prtty high skills so i can fit pretty good, but it is pretty tight if you run the good guns (dang gun nerf). I find that the 250mm are much better if you keep distance, can pop most frigates and cruisers pretty fast. The 200mm are ok, but the 250mm's have almost 30% more punch

I know the feeling Oh, and I can'r bloody believe ppl doing missions in a Ferox. They sure as hell must have alot of spare time on theire hands.
Ferox sux, end of part one
Xori, I really would love to give you a nice hint on this one, but all I can say is what ppl allready said, try to keep a safe distance to the webbers if you're having probs with tanking. But those frigs are very fast.
I have done this mission lots of times, but I cheat, I fly a zealot |

I've done it with both my Caldari main and Gallente alt. The Gallente has used both a Brutix and a Dominix for the missions.
In the Brutix, I would suggest you jump in, ignore the miners (as previously stated) orient to jump out. When the Thorax and Officer groups spawn and aggro on you, jump. If it makes you feel better, try to kill a thorax or something first. You will get webbed. Jump back to the mission at distance, work your way in, select the group you desire (Thorax for me) take them one group at a time. Only thing you get from the miners is a Gallente Mining laser. I used 2x150 proto and 5x250protos. Plus Vespa II's. Rest of the setup was as previously discussed or similar enough not to matter. The Target priority and aggro control make survivial possible. BTW, the last stage...when you jump in and get three cruisers and three sentry gun II's (I think) on you...you better be ready to tank...kill the sentry guns, they go down fast to the drones.
Good fortunes. _______________________________________________

I find using missiles makes this mission FAR easier than rails. I used to be a rail user... but for level 3's missiles are just far more handy imo. Rails are great at mid range, doing very high dmg... but those same rails will suck vs frigs. So you need a smaller rail or blaster to fight them.
With missiles you can use Heavy's and fight frigs/cruisers/BS's all with one missile. Just make sure to bring the missile of the right type for your mission and its all cake. For this one mission tho you may consider 2-3 assault launchers for the support frigs.

I Know alot of people talk about using a ferox/raven for missions and there is a simple answer for that, Caldari ships are pretty much built for missions. If your going to be doing alot of missions its at least worth training caldari ships upto a battlecrusier.
As far as i know "Illegal Activity" is a caldari navy mission involving fighting against the gallente navy. If your gonna do caldari missions use a caldari ship....

Xori when u have arrived to mission are wait for second spawn, 1st spawn doesnt agro on you. But i noticed gallente navy thoraxes have good dps there, i advice armor + repair (coz they can break tanking easly).

Amarr Navy gives those missions out as well, btw. I'm running missions for em.
I do them in a Curse (which is dual rep tanked and can run that tank forever and thus tank em anyways, I admit), but this kinda shows how powerful droneships with T2 drones are. I get through the three support frigs, two of the officers, and the third officer is half into armor when the second spawn spawns.
I'd say at least training for T2 Scout Drones is a good idea for any Gallente ship pilot because of their dronebays. Makes a really nice difference either way. Especially against annoying ships like those support frigs. (Which I can't kill with T2 Med Pulses. They outtrack them.) If I use my Retribution for fighting those, I either have to fit faster guns (which I hate), or move really up close to one of the roids or structures.
In egeneral, a good hint for killing those pesky almost unkillable interceptors, can be to move really close up to, or around a structure to get them stuck. Even big guns start hitting them, then.

Doing this mission in a Enyo with 4-blasters and a small launcher is very easy. NPC's never even got through my shield's and Im armor tanked.
